Yummy Strawberries Card

February 13, 2016

Hello everyone,

It’s Joset here today sharing this yummy strawberry-filled card with you. Who doesn’t adore strawberries and especially their bright red color? I love them all year round!

For this card I used my own design, the Strawberries die set, in combination with Fitted Frames 4 – Curvy Ovals, Stitched Ovals and a few other fun dies from the Els van de Burgt Studio collection. And of course the Soft Finish Cardstock and Distress Inks, two products I just love using. Let’s get started!

1. To create the card base, cut one Stitched Oval from Soft Finish Cardstock (use the largest oval die from the Stitched Ovals set) and one Fitted Frames 4 – Curvy Ovals from Soft Finish Cardstock backed with Clear Double Sided Adhesive. Because of the oval shape of the finished card I displayed it on an easel die cut from Soft Finish Cardstock. The easel can be folded flat for mailing (Click HERE for a video about Els van de Burgt Studio’s Card Stand/Easel Die).

2. Adhere the largest Fitted Frame, shown at the left in the photo below, to the Stitched Oval. Save the rest of the Fitted Frames shown on the bottom right for other projects.  Save 3 of the little round leftovers to use later for the centers of the flowers.

3. To decorate the card, cut the following from Soft Finish Cardstock:

(For the strawberry overlays, sepal/stem pieces and decorative flourishes, back the cardstock with Clear Double Sided Adhesive before die-cutting.)

  • One set of strawberry leaves
  • 3 solid strawberries (1 large, 2 small)
  • 3 strawberry overlays (1 large, 2 small)
  • 3 strawberry sepal/stem pieces (1 large, 2 small)
  • 3 flowers
  • 2 flourishes

4. Color die cuts using Distress Inks. Use Peeled Paint for the leaves and strawberry sepal/stem pieces, Mustard Seed for the solid strawberries and flower centers (small round leftovers from Fitted Frames) and Barn Door for the overlays. Apply a tiny amount of the Tumbled Glass to your flower petals.

To apply the ink using a Mini Ink Blending Tool use circular motions. Work on top of a non-stick craft mat (or the leftover backing of your adhesive sheets) and start your circular motion on the mat and work toward the edge of the cardstock. For solid colors or darker shading  keep repeating the circular motion, adding a bit more ink until the desired effect is achieved.

6. Adhere leaves, strawberries, flourishes and flowers to card front. Option: Add the oval to a white, rectangular top-fold (tent-fold) card base if you want a traditional shape for your card.
