Two Cards from One Background

April 8, 2018

Hello everyone, it´s Sanna here again with another guest blog post. For today´s post, I´ve created two love themed cards that can be used for Mother´s Day and other similar occasions.

I created only one background piece with a heat embossing and inking technique, and with a clever trick I got two cards out of the one background piece.

Here is how I created my cards:

Step 1: Take a piece of Soft Finish White Cardstock and cut it to card size. It can be slightly bigger, so you can adjust the size after finishing the background.
Step 2: Take the Love Sentiments clear stamp set and stamp with embossing ink onto the cardstock piece. Don´t worry if the images are not perfectly aligned, that hand-stamped imperfection is what makes the background look more interesting.
Step 3: Stamp 2-3 rows and then pause to apply white embossing powder over the stamped images. Apply the powder and heat set with a heat tool. Then repeat stamping and embossing until you reach the bottom of the cardstock.
Step 4: For additional fun interest, add also some crosswise stamping across the cardstock surface.
Step 5: Apply Abandoned Coral Distress Oxide ink over the cardstock piece with a blending tool.
Step 6: Die cut 15 little hearts with the Buttons die cut die from it, carefully aligning and spacing the rows of hearts (3 across, 5 rows).
Step 7: Cut, score and fold two card bases from white cardstock. Cut a piece of Clear Double Sided Adhesive for each card front (slightly smaller than the card base).
Step 8: For one card, expose the adhesive and take the inked and embossed negative piece (the piece leftover after cutting the hearts) and put it onto the card front. Careful! Don’t touch the exposed adhesive areas with your fingers.
Step 9: apply Light Brown Silk Microfine Glitter onto the open areas of exposed adhesive. Brush off excess glitter, return it to the jar. Polish the glitter with a fingertip to bring out the maximum sparkle.
Step 10: Repeat steps 8 and 9 using the heart shapes – Glitter will surround the hearts for this second card.
Step 11: Using black ink, stamp sentiments onto White Soft Finish Cardstock, cut into banners and adhere to the card fronts. Watch the video if you’d like to see the projects take shape.

This way you have just created a positive and negative card using the exact same technique and still you have two slightly different cards as an end result. Also now you can give one card to your Mum and the second one to your Mother-in-law or your grandmother. I hope you have enjoyed this months card idea and the video. Wishing you a great time crafting & see you next month!
