Thinking of You Floral Card

October 11, 2017

Dear Friends,

Flowers have the power to reflect our deepest emotions. They are used to convey love, gratitude, to celebrate and to mourn.

Today I chose the hydrangea and peony to express sympathy and support for those who grieve right now, for even at times of loss the beauty of flowers can provide solace and bring joy. The hydrangea represents heartfelt emotions, the peony stands for family honor and love.

Step 1 – Create a 6 x 6 top folding card base from White Soft Finish Cardstock.

Step 2 – Create a background by sprinkling some Lindy’s Magical onto watercolor cardstock and spray with water.  Once dry adhere this panel onto the card front.

Step 3 – Color a piece of cheesecloth with permanent green ink or paint, scrunch it a bit and adhere to the card front.

Step 4 – Using the Garden Notes – Hydrangea 2 die set, die cut enough petals & leaves to create three flowers.  Shape the petals & leaves using the metal tool set. Color flowers using PanPastels. Assemble the flowers and adhere yellow/orange Prills to the stamens.

Step 5 – Using the Garden Notes – Peony 2 die set, die cut enough pieces to create three flowers.  Color the petals using Rose Madder and Buttercup Archival Ink and the leaves with Fern Green Archival Ink. Use the tools from the  metal tool set to shape each of the petals and leaves. Assemble the hydrangea heads and add three or four yellow/green Prills to the center of each floret.

Step 6 – Arrange all the flowers and leaves onto the card base; adhere into place using Kids Choice Glue.

Step 7 – Add additional yellow/green Prills to the card base, referring to the photo above for placement.

Step 8 – Add some Nuvo Gloss Crystal Drops in green and yellow randomly around the card.

Step 9 – Stamp the “Thinking of You” sentiment onto white cardstock, adhere to the top right corner of the card using foam tape. Note that one leaf overlaps the stamped rectangle while another peeks out from behind it to tie the sentiment into the composition.

I hope this card will ignite the spirit of unity and love in everyone’s heart.

This card is beautiful and would be a gift on it’s own. Your flowers are so realistic and I love the way you weaved them into the netting and embellished with prills. Terrific work. Thanks for sharing your talent with us.

Shalini – I’ve noticed you use Lindy’s Magical Powders a lot. Before seeing your (magical) works, I’d never heard of Lindy’s Magical Powders. Although I’ve been a crafter for over 20 years now (yikes!), I don’t have those in my stash. Are they similar to Ken Oliver’s “color burst” water colors? What set would you recommend I buy, if not? thanks!!

Thank you so much for appreciating my work. Ken Oliver’s Color Burst are in Liquid form .The colors that i use are in powder form and i have used Gold, Pines Olive and Delight Denim colors. I hope this would help you. Anything else just let me know.

Hi Again, Shalini – Ken Oliver’s Color Burst are a water color, yes, but are powdered pigments activated with water. What medium holds the Lindy’s Magicals to the paper. I did find Pines Olive, but had no luck locating the Gold or Delight Denim colors. What is your source, please?

        Thanks so much!!
