Thanks Thanks Thanks

January 25, 2018

Hello – Samantha here, posting my first blog post for Elizabeth Craft Designs. I was extremely excited  when I got an email from Frances telling me that I made this design team. It’s quite a big deal putting yourself out there, so I thought I’d create a Thank You card to show my appreciation.

Here is how I made this card:

Step 1 – Using a rectangle from the Dashing Rectangles die set die-cut a panel for the card front.

Step 2 – Cut three strips of vellum measuring 2 3/4 inches (7cm) x 1 inch (2.5cm).

Step 3 – Adhere the vellum to the card front as shown.

TIP: Use a sewing machine to stitch a border around the vellum as shown to avoid seeing glue or tape through the vellum. Alternatively, hand stitch with embroidery thread. If using tape, choose a narrow width and position tape toward the center of the vellum as this will be almost totally covered up later (see step 9).

Step 4 – Create a gradient line using three markers on watercolor paper.

Tombow markers used here – but you could create this look using alcohol ink and a blending tool. The important part is to create a gradient (ombre) look – dark to light.

Step 5 –  Use the word ‘thanks’ from the Words 2 – Thinking of You die set to cut the gradient-colored watercolor paper, keeping the darkest shade at the bottom of the letters. Tip: If using lightweight watercolor paper, back with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape prior to die cutting.

Step 6 –  Repeat Steps 4 and 5 two more times.

Step 7 –  Next, die cut the word ‘thanks’ 9 times from black cardstock that has been backed with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape prior to cutting. TIP: This will save you time when you need to adhere all the words together.

Step 8 – Adhere three black die-cut ‘thanks’ together followed by the gradient-colored die-cut ‘thanks’ on top. If the gradient-colored die cuts were not backed with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape prior to cutting, use small dabs of Kids Choice Glue to adhere as the top layer. Repeat this step for the remaining two ‘thanks’ die cuts.

Step 9 – Assemble and adhere the die-cuts to your card front as shown below.

Step 10 – Adhere card front to a light purple side-fold card base. Embellish with sequins and twine.

Add beads to the tails of the twine to create added interest to the card. Hold beads in place with rolled up washi tape.

Step 11 –  Trim off excess twine.

This is a simple card design that can be customized to suit any occasion. I love how many sentiment options are available in Joset’s latest release of Word dies. Change the sentiment, create a Thinking of You card or a simply repeat the word ‘Smile’ to cheer up someone’s day…

Thanks for stopping by. I look forward to being on this design team and sharing my cards and ideas with you. Happy Crafting.

Samantha

Such simple elegance!! I’m not one for a lot of frills on my cards. While those are gorgeous, it’s just not me! This one you hit out of the park, as far as I’m concerned. Impressive and well thought out! Thanks for sharing your talents and look forward to seeing many more of your ideas! 🙂
