Book Mark Greeting Card

July 19, 2020

Hello friends, it’s Sandy Diller here with a YouTube inspired project. I saw this card – book mark done by Jennifer McGuire and decided to make one putting my own spin on it. With school officially closed for the summer, reading is even more important for our kidos. Any child would love to receive this fun card that encourages reading.

The book mark simply pulls out of the front of the card and is ready for a favorite book.

Who wouldn’t love to find this on their page?

I began by cutting the Parrot from white Soft Finish Cardstock and then adding the colors (Distress Oxide Inks). I used blending brushes from Picket Fence Studio but you could do this using whatever you have. By adding the color this way you get some shading in the area that you want.

Assemble Parrot.

This is a 5.5″ square card so the base was cut 5.5″ X 11″ and then creased in the center. Using the Indented Squares die set, cut one large (5.25″ square) and two smaller ( 3.25″ square).

A square is needed for the small panel that has an opening for the book mark. The decorative panel for this card is 3.25″ so a 3.50″ panel is needed. Cut a square that is 2 times larger than the desired panel. The square we want is 3.50″ so a 7″ square is needed. Cut the 7″ square in half creating two triangles (only one is needed for this card). Score the triangle at 3.5″ on each side.

Fold the triangle into a square and add a panel to both sides.

The larger square should cut down the center in order to hold the book mark.

Add the Parrot to the front panel of the square with the opening on either side, it is shown on the left side here.

Stamp sentiment of your choice on the bottom of the card. Slide the open side of the book mark straddling the cut in the card.

Attach to card base. Decorate the inside or simply write your message.

Thank you for stopping by and I hope you have enjoyed this fun project.
