Hi Friends!
It’s Debra Hensley for Susan’s Garden Design Team. Near where I live in Texas there is a small town made up of old country boutique shops. They specialize in handcrafted items and have lots of charm and personality. When you look down the streets, you see colorful awnings, flowers in pots and a variety of antique items. The CountryScapes dies inspired me to create a card that echos one of those shops.
Here’s how I made this card –
1. Card Base:
a. Fold a piece of 11″ x 4-1/4″ white cardstock in half to create a top fold A2 size card base.
b. Cut striped pattern paper to 4-1/4″ x 2-1/2″. Score at 1/2″ and trim with wavy edged scissors.
c. Cut 2 additional strips 1/2″ x 5-1/2″.
d. Cut polka dot pattern paper to 4-1/4″ x 2″. Score at 3/8″ and 1-1/4″. Score horizontally every 1/2″. Use a scalloped punch on the bottom edge.
e. Die cut 1″ Garden Patch grid from white cardstock.
f. Cut a piece of acetate to 4-1/4″ x 4″.
g. Ink all pattern pieces with brown ink.
2. Die cut additional pieces –
a. 3 large flower pots, 3 geranium stems – white cardstock, 4 sets of geranium flowers – dark pink cardstock
b. 2 small flower pots, 2 black eyed susan stems, 3 sets of black eyed susan flowers – white cardstock
c. 3 grass tufts, 1 reclining cat, 1 sitting cat- white cardstock
d. 1 watering can – dark gray cardstock
e. the letters to spell FLOWER and 1 wagon wheel – kraft cardstock
- Optional: create a sticker out of some of the die cuts by backing the cardstock with Transparent Double-Sided Tape before die cutting.
3. Color with Distress Markers/Ink –
a. Pots – Rusty Hinge, Worn Lipstick, Pumice Stone
b. Grass, stems – Crushed Olive, Shabby Shutters, Peeled Paint, Brushed Corduroy
c. Black eyed susan flowers – Mustard Seed, Walnut Stain
d. Geranium flowers – Worn Lipstick, Clear Wink of Stella
e. Sitting cat – Rusty hinge with waterbrush
f. Reclining cat – Pumice stone with waterbrush
g. Watering can – stipple with Rusty Hinge
h. Wagon wheel and letters- ink with Vintage Photo
4. Card Assembly –
a. Adhere acetate to card front flush with top. Adhere grid flush with top over acetate. Adhere side strips. Adhere striped piece flush with bottom. Adhere awning flush with top.
b. Adhere large flower pots and stems directly on card base.
c. Shape Geranium flowers with medium ball stylus and shaping pad. Adhere to stems.
d. Add small flower pots with foam adhesive. Adhere black eyed susan flowers to stems.
e. Add reclining cat near center.

f. Add wagon wheel to right bottom side.
g. Adhere grass tufts to bottom of card.
h. Add sitting cat on left.
i. Add watering can on foam adhesive on right side.

5. To complete –
a. Cut a small rectangle from white cardstock. Hand write OPEN. Ink edges with brown ink. Add twine bow and adhere to left side of awning.
b. Adhere the letters for FLOWERS to top of awning.
