Cardmaking Joset Designs Soft Finish Cardstock

Monster-fied Critters

August 12, 2022

Hi, Karen here today. For today’s post, I decided to “monster-fy” a couple of Joset’s other critters. I made the funniest dog and a very unusual elephant as the centerpieces for some fun cards.

First up, I used the Dog die set to create this funny little critter. The face is from the Monster 2 set. I put the head with the eyes, nose, ears and body from the Dog. I love how silly he looks. I used Kraft cardstock for most of the pieces (except the eyes and teeth which are 90 lb Soft Finish Cardstock. The dog is framed by a Stitched Circle Die. Using 101mm behind pieces like the eyes before diecutting makes them so easy to adhere.

The face, ears, legs and body are edged with a tiny bit of Tea Dye Distress Ink. The collar is colored with a Copic Marker as is the tag and eyes.

I used all of the pieces of the Elephant die except I turned the body sideways to make him unusually skinny. haha I also used the head and horns from the Monster 1 die set.

I cut most of the pieces with very light grey cardstock and edged them with a bit of Hickory Smoke Distress Ink. The ears are cut from 90 lb Soft Finish Cardstock and are colored with Kitsch Flamingo Distress Ink. The eyes and ears are cut using 101mm Double Sided Adhesive to make them easy to put together! I used the Monster Hugs stamps on both cards.

Thank you for stopping by!

Craftily yours, Karen

Woof!!

March 21, 2022

Hello everyone!! Today I wan’t to show you this cute little dog in his dog house. I have two dogs of my own and I love them so much! In this case the kitty runs off with the dogs bone.

This time I used some paper for the background from ModaScrap. This is one of my favorite papers. First I die cut 2 squares with the Postage Stamp Squares dies (1256), one just a little larger then the other. I like the edges on these squares.

After that I cut and colored all the figures. For the coloring I use distress ink. I love to color all parts with the ink. Great to combine all colors. I also like to make something happen in my creation. In this case the cat that steals the bone of the dog. To make it possible for the kitten to sit on the roof I used the body of the dog.

Next to the dog house I added 2 sunflowers. In the middle of the sunflowers I made small beads with glossy accents. Let it dry for a while and they look just like real sunflower seeds. These little beads I have in many different colors. I really like to combine these with te flowers.

This was my creation for today. Hope you liked it and I inspired you!

See you next time!

Greetings from Alice

Fire Hydrant Bookmark

October 20, 2014

Hello my crafty friends, it’s Raquel Mason. I like encouraging good reading habits. A great way to do that is with a fire hydrant shaped bookmark complete with the new Puppies Peel-Offs. Let me show you how I made it.

ECD hydrant 2

1.  For the base, cut red cardstock at 3.25 x 5.5 then die cut using the basic tag shape from Tags & More 3 Leaves. Sponge with black ink.

2.  For the bottom band, cut red cardstock at 1 x 3.75, use Tags & More 3 die to curve the ends. (See photo below) Sponge with black ink. Adhere to bottom of bookmark.

ECD hydrant cut

3.  For middle band, cut red cardstock at .5 x 3.75, round edges with scissors.  For top band,
cut red cardstock at 1 x 3.5. Sponge both pieces with black ink and adhere bands to top & middle of bookmark.

4.  Cut 4 pieces of red cardstock at .5 x 1, sponge with black ink. Adhere to top band of bookmark using photo for placement.

5.  From red cardstock, die cut 1 circle reinforcement and keep the little center circle.
Sponge both pieces with black ink. (*These two pieces will be used next to the word “reading” in step 8.)

ECD hydrant POS

6.  Place desired peel off stickers onto watercolor paper. Color with Tombow Dual Brush markers and water brush or desired medium, then cut out.

7.  For the greeting, use the bone as an “I”, use the heart as “Love” and use the letters from Good Luck, Dream & Season’s Greetings dies to make the word “Reading”.

8.  Assemble using photos for placement. Add red grosgrain ribbon at top of the bookmark.

I hope you have enjoyed my tutorial and feel inspired to try it out yourself.

Happy Crafting,

Raquel

Hi, Jackie Smith here. As an owner of a beloved pet, I am crazy about the new Puppies
Peel-Offs in the latest release from Elizabeth Craft Designs. I decided to make a Happy Birthday card for other fellow dog lovers.

Instructions:

1. Create card base from aqua colored cardstock. Cut 7″x 10″ rectangle; score and fold in half (5″x 7″ finished card size)

2. Cut light blue paper 4 3/4″x 6 3/4″ and adhere to card front using double-sided adhesive. Cut light brown paper 41/2″x 6 1/2″ and adhere on top of the blue paper again using double-sided adhesive.

3. Cut one accordion panel from blue paper using the Katie Label Accordion. Trim off the long side tab and cut out the center label. Adhere frame and label to card front as shown in the picture at the beginning of this blog post.

4. Place black Puppies Peel-offs, black Gifts Peel-Offs as well as the black Balloons Peel-Offs onto white cardstock with double sided adhesive on top. Cover Peel-offs with Cool Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter and polish glitter with your finger. Use a brush to brush off the excess glitter. Follow Els’ step by step instructions for this technique HERE.IMG_1310-1

5. Color puppies, gifts and balloons as desired. I used Tombow Dual Brush Markers although they do require extra time to dry as they are water-based. Use alcohol-based markers instead of water-based markers if you prefer.DSC_0280-1

6. Die cut balloons from Light Green and Light Blue Velvet Adhesive plus die cut some balloons from Blue Iridescent Shimmer Sheetz (metal adaptor plate needed in the cutting “sandwich”  for cutting Shimmer Sheetz – cutting side of die facing the plate with Shimmer Sheetz in between). Mix and match as shown. Adhere to card front using double sided adhesive and pop dots.

7. Die cut Happy Birthday using Happy Birthday Stand Up Helper from Black Velvet Adhesive Sheet. Cut along the score line below the words, keeping the narrow bar below the letters.

8. Add Turquoise/Silver Glitter Borders around the card. Use some of borders as string for the balloons. Adhere bow to the top of the frame.

Puppy Love

Hi, Jackie Smith here. I fell in love with the new Elizabeth Craft Designs Peel-offs, especially the one called ‘Puppies’. My dog has been sick so I decided to do a card for her – she is like my kid. I had these papers on hand that coordinate well with the Peel-offs.

Instructions

1. Create card base from brown cardstock. Cut 5″x 11″ rectangle; score and fold in half.
In this card I’m using a double fold with an extra platform using the Lorna Label PopUp.
Place the Lorna Label on the fold line as shown by Karen Burniston in this video. Cut another rectangle 5 1/4″x 12″ for the backing card.

2. To create a “back wall” and a “floor wall”, cut bone paper 6″x 6″ square twice. Place Lorna Label PopUp on the edge of paper and die cut PopUp insert. You will need your scissors to cut out the Lorna Label insert completely. Do this on both papers. Adhere one wall to the top of the inside of the card and one wall to the bottom part of the inside of the card. Karen explains this step in her video as well.

3. Cut dog word vellum paper 2 1/4″ x 5 1/4″ and adhere to the top, just behind the PopUp. Cut burlap paper the same size and adhere to the bottom of the inside of the card.

4. Cut out trees, foliage and house using the Holiday House and All Seasons Tree dies. Emboss the roof part with Damask Embossing folder by Karen Burniston. Place all pieces using glue dots as shown.DSC_0248-1

5. Place black Puppies Peel-offs onto white cardstock with double sided adhesive on top. Cover Peel-offs with Cool Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter and polish glitter with your finger. Use a brush to brush of the excess glitter. Follow Els’ step by step instructions for this technique here.

6. Color puppies as desired. I used Tombow Dual Brush Markers although they do require extra time to dry as they are water-based. Use alcohol-based markers instead of water-based markers if you prefer.

7. Cut out puppies. Place sitting puppy by the dog house on the inside. Save the standing puppy for the card front (step 9).

8. Freehand cut a dog bone from the brown paper using scissors (or a craft knife and cutting mat). Add a name to the bone, spelled out in alphabet stickers. (Option: Use rubber stamps for the letters.)  Use double sided adhesive to adhere bone to the sign on the front of the dog house. Using pop dots for dimension, add dog paw prints toward the bottom right.

9. For the front of the card, cut bone paper 5 1/2″x 5 3/4″, red paper 5 1/4″x 5 1/2″ and word paper 5″x 5 1/4″. Layer and adhere using double sided adhesive. Adhere puppy, bone, dog paws and sign using pop dots as shown.
