Sweet Winter Bird

September 30, 2020

Karen here today! Have you started holiday crafts?! I usually am much closer to being done sharing with you a Christmas card made with the sweet Winter Bird Die.

To create this card, cut an 8-1/2×11″ piece of 90lb White Soft Finish Cardstock in half and score/fold in the middle to create a card base. Cut the silver cardstock at 4×5-1/4″. Also cut the second largest die cut of the Fitted Rounded Rectangle die of White Soft Finish Cardstock. On this piece, use one of the FuN stencils from the Summer Journal Special to create the background with Distress Ink in Broken China and wrap some lace/ribbon around it. Add the sentiment from the Classic Christmas Sentiments. Add this piece to the silver and adhere the whole thing to the card base.

Next, create the Winter Bird.

On the left side are the pieces cut without 101mm Double Sided Adhesive. They are colored with (from left to right), Copic marker R27, Distress Ink in Speckled Egg, Distress Ink in Broken China, and Copic E25. On the right picture are the pieces cut with 101mm Double Sided Ahesive to make assembly easier. The additional colors I used on these pieces are Copic YR14 (nose) and Copic C7 (eyes).

Add the Winter Bird to the card front and add Silver Craft Drops. I also added a dot of white gel ink to both eyes.

Thank you for stopping by today.

Craftily yours, Karen

The World needs who you were made to be

September 22, 2020

Hi there,

It’s Tanja here and today I would like to show you a Mixed Media Art Journal Project. But first I would like to introduce you to some of the different pages you can create with the help of the dies from the Summer Journal Special.

Possibility 1:

  • cut out the double page with the die on the left, cut off one of the flaps and stitch it together
  • I use this to store my cut outs from the Summer Journal Special

Possibility 2:

  • cut out the double page with the die on the left and the pocket on the bottom right
  • cut off the flap on the left
  • you end up with one normal page on the left and a pocket on the right

Possibility 3:

  • cut out the double page with the die on the left
  • cut off the flaps
  • add the half pocket cut out with the die n the top left
  • you can use this to store your stencils from the Summer Journal Special or a tag

In the following step by step tutorial I am going to create a mixed media tag and decorate the half pocket:

Step 1: Die Cutting

  • since I already showed you how to create the half pocket, I only need to die cut the tag from watercolor paper with the help of the die from the Butterfly Pocket Insert die set

Step 2: Adding Texture

  • adhere some torn tissue paper to the tag with multi medium
  • apply Grit Paste through one of the stencils from the Summer Journal Special and let this dry or heat-it with your heat tool for even more texture

Step 3: Adding Color

  • add color by smooshing the tag into watered-down Distress Paint (Cracked Pistachio, Salty Ocean, Peacock Feathers)

Step 4: Finishing Touches

  • ink up the edges of the tag with Distress Ink Hickory Smoke
  • dye four strands of torn seam binding with Distress Stains Peacock Feathers and thread them through the hole of the tag
  • cut out one of the poppies from the Floral Insert die set from grey cardstock
  • add a pre-cut sentiment

Step 5: Decorating the Pocket

  • apply Distress Ink Hickory Smoke through one of the stencils from the Summer Journal Special
  • stamp one of the definitions from the Journal Words set with Versafine Clair Nocturne
  • stamp some single words from that same set and with that same ink – use up to fifth generation stamping to let it fade out

I hope you got inspired.
