Cardmaking Fantasy Flowers Paper Flowers

Elegant flower card

April 15, 2022

Hi everyone, it’s Marla back with another ECD card share. It’s so nice to finally be able celebrate wedding season properly. If you are like me and have several weddings to attend, the recently released “Florals 4” dies are just what you need to create spectacular wedding cards. The card I am sharing today will not only wow a bride and groom but can be used for many other celebrations. Let’s begin…

Step 1. Cut out your flowers and pistols using the “Florals 14” dies and white cardstock. Use a sponge dauber to apply color to your flowers on both the front and back side. I used “Dried Marigold” Distress Oxide and then added “Worn Lipstick”, making sure to leave white space toward the tips of the petals. Add depth with a coordinating-colored pencil to define the embossed line down the center of each petal and add shading toward the center. Then color your pistols, I used Distress Oxide in “Squeezed Lemonade.”

Step 2. Use a stylus to shape each flower layer. I spritzed the backsides of mine with water and gently depressed the end of each petal to help curl them under. Once the layers are shaped glue your flower layer as desired, making sure to offset the petals.

Step 4 Cut out the leaves using “Leaves and Branches” from vellum and white cardstock. Color the backs of a few of your vellum leaves. I used “Bundled Sage Distress Oxide” ink. Using wet glue, add ECD “Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter” to the leaves cut from white cardstock.

Step 5 Stamp and trim down a sentiment. I used a sentiment from the “For You” stamp set.

Step 6. Cut an ivory piece of cardstock to 8.5″ by 3.5″ and emboss with a slimline embossing folder. Use two slimline dies to create a frame and layer it on top of the embossed panel. Attach to an 8.75″ x 3.75″ side folding card base.

Step 7. Arrange and glue your flowers and leaves to your card panel.

That completes my card for today. Thank you so much for joining me today. Until next time…Marla

A Way With Words

Best friends Forever Owl

November 23, 2015

Hello!! It’s Wanda here and I’m very glad to be back on the Elizabeth Craft Designs’ Blog sharing another card using the fabulous A Way With Words dies!! Today I’ve combined those dies with the adorable Poppy the Owl die to make a card just perfect for a BFF.

Here’s how I created the card:

  1. Die cut the words ‘Best’ (#1050 A Way With Words – Best Wishes) and ‘Friends’ (#1052 A Way With Words – Friends) 3 times: Once from Pink and/or Light Pink Iridescent Shimmer Sheetz, once from white cardstock and once from black cardstock, all backed with Clear Double Sided Adhesive. Layer the word pieces so the Shimmer Sheetz is on top, the white cardstock is a highlight to the upper left and the black cardstock is a shadow to the lower right. Leave the release sheet covering the adhesive on the back of the bottom layer till step 4. Set aside.*Reminder: The Metal Adaptor Plate (803) is required for die cutting Shimmer Sheetz. Review Els van de Burgt’s YouTube video HERE if you are new to this technique.
  2. Cut all pieces of #910 Poppy the Owl from Soft Finish Cardstock. Ink pieces as shown and assemble Poppy. Set aside.
  3. Cut #1033 Leafy Branch from cardstock, spray with ink, set aside to dry. from cardstock, spray with ink, dry, set aside.
  4. Cut marbled background paper to 4” x 5 1/4” and ink edges. (Piece shown was from my stash, created using Dylusions Ink Sprays and the shaving cream technique. Alternatively, use purchased paper or another piece of Shimmer Sheetz from the Sampler Pack.) Attach all pieces to marbled rectangle as shown, and then to a white top-fold A2 (4.25” x 5.5”) card base. Add ‘forever’ sticker and draw a box around it with the black Pitt pen.

I hope you like this card and are inspired to make a card for your BFF.

BestWishesA 1

By Judi Kauffman

Thank you for inviting me to be today’s guest designer. My project today is a Best Wishes card. I offer it as an introduction to Suzanne Cannon’s new Quietfire Design dies from Elizabeth Craft Designs – A Way With Words Collection.

All twelve of the dies are so versatile. It would be SO easy to customize this project by changing the color combination or by switching to different peel-offs and embellishments.

In fact, you could change to another of the dies in the collection, too. The rectangle that holds the sentiment would need to be re-sized to fit the words, and the embellishments would be changed, but other than that the theory is the same:

1. Die cut words twice – once in Shimmer Sheetz and once in cardstock backed with adhesive sheet or in Velvet Adhesive Sheet.

2. Add the words to a solid color cardstock rectangle, overlapping them so the darker color becomes a drop shadow. Layer the first rectangle onto a contrasting border, also in solid color cardstock.

3. Layer a piece of paper from a castoff book onto the same solid color as used for the border in step 2.

4. Add this large rectangle to a 5” x 7” card base. Use foam tape to attach the Best Wishes rectangle.

5. Add Leafy Branch peel-offs and a Glitter Dot-encrusted Shimmer Sheetz butterfly peel-offs as shown, or substitute whatever low-relieve embellishments you prefer. (*Keep the embellishments flat or almost flat to avoid additional postage charges.)

Design Strategies:

By using only simple rectangles the card can be completed in a jiffy! If you have more time, die cut other shapes for some of the layers.

If you’re switching to a different sentiment, change the color combination; use patterned papers, embossed layers, or whatever suits the occasion and the recipient.

For example:

With Sympathy would work better with a muted, respectful, tone on tone palette. Skip the sparkly elements.

Happy Birthday would look great in bright primary colors with balloons instead of a butterfly.

Congratulations is a long word and the die is not very tall, so I would change the shape of the card to a horizontal rectangle with a fold across the top.

NOTE: Some of the dies have words that are connected (Happy Birthday, Merry Christmas, Season’s Greetings). The rest of the dies have individual words that can be configured on one line or more, and the words can mixed and matched among the die sets!

ECDBestWishesFlower-wm

Hi everyone,

It’s Frances here again. I have been playing with some of the new Elizabeth Craft Designs dies that are being released this month. They should be available in stores near you any day now! For today’s card I used the new Crystal Flower dies and one of the new Word Stand-Up Helper dies (I used the Best Wishes Stand-Up Helper Die for this card). Of course as you can see, I haven’t used the die to create a Stand Up card, but rather on the edge of my card.

Here’s how I created my card:

1. Cut a piece of purple card which measures 4 1/4 inches x 11 inches. Score this at 5 1/2 inches so you have a top folded card that measures 4 1/4 inches x 5 1/2 inches.

2. Cut a piece of designer paper which measures 3 1/4 inches x 5 1/2 inches. (As I am layering this to my card with foam tape, I like to adhere this to a piece of card the same size for extra strength.

ECDBestWishes

3. Cut a piece of dark green card 1 /2 inches by 7 inches. Take the Best Wishes Stand-Up Helper die and position it at the top right hand side of the stripe of card,  about 3/4 inches from the edge. Cut with you die cutting machine. Cut along the stripe of card where the base of  the letters hit the card (black line on the top right photo). Cut along this line so you are left with just the words attached to the green stripe of card (bottom left photo). Apply some adhesive to the left edge of the designer paper and adhere the paper to the Best Wishes stripe, leaving a small border of card showing (bottom right photo).

4. Use foam tape to attach the designer paper to the right side of the card.

5. Using the Crystal Flower Set 1 die cut a small flower and large flower from Purple Iridescent Shimmer Sheetz.

6. Cut a piece of Double Sided Adhesive Paper 3 1/2 inches x 6 1/2 inches. Remove protective layer from one side and place onto a piece of thin card or designer paper. Die cut paper using both flowers and the large flower center from the Crystal Flower Overlay Set 1 die. (You may need to use the Metal Adaptor Plate when diecutting the flower as it has a lot of fine detail). Remove all the excess pieces from the flower if needed. Remove protective backing from the Adhesive Paper and cover flowers with Lavender Silk Microfine Glitter, polishing the glitter into the adhesive with your fingers. Use the Amethyst Silk Microfine Glitter for the flower center.

7. Attach each glittered overlay piece to it’s Shimmer Sheetz flower using foam tape to give extra dimension. Attach the small flower to the large flower using foam tape and off setting the flower so the petals line up between the petals of the larger flower. Attach flower center to the middle of the small flower using foam tape. Attach completed flower to the bottom left hand side of my card as per photo again using foam tape.

8. Die cut the Flourish with Flowers from light green card and attach to card as per photo.

Thanks for stopping by today.
