A Set Of Cute Hippo Baby Cards

February 23, 2020

Hello everyone, it’s Sanna Lippert here again today with a set of “build-a-Hippo” baby cards. I adore this little die cut die so much –– it’s perfect for so many occasions, and practically made for creating baby cards! And while I was at it, I created a set of three. You never know when you’ll need one!

This is how I created the cards:

Step 1: First take a sheet of White Soft Finish Cardstock and die cut 3 sets of Hippos. And don’t forget to die cut the feet six times!! 🙂
Step 2: Next take a sheet of Soft Sky and Dusky cardstock and die cut two sets with the Stitched Rounded Rechtangle from the blue paper and one set from the lilac one.
Step 3: Take a white Soft Finish Cardstock sheet (or glitter cardstock) and die cut three sets with the Postage Stamp Rectangles die cut die.
Step 4: Ink the hippo pieces with grey and pink stamp ink, but leave the eyes and teeth white.

Step 5: Now cut blue and purple patterned paper into a card size from the polka-dotted “Thinking about Polinesia” paper. Adhere onto the card base.
Step 6: Attach a piece of ribbon in blue and pink onto the cards, then adhere the rechtangle pieces on place. Start with the postage stamp piece and adhere the rounded rectangle on top.
Step 7: Add a stamped sentiment using the Ahoy Sentiments or the Build Your Own Sentiments 1 stamp set and black stamp ink.
Step 8: Color the tiny eye pieces with a black marker and adhere in place.

To give you a better idea of each and every step, I’ve again recorded a video for your to watch. I hope you like it!

I hope I inspired you to play with your dies a little today and create a few cards yourself! I’ll be back with another project next month.

Until then, happy crafting!
xxx, Sanna

  1. Use a paper trimmer to cut one 8 1/2″ x 11″ piece of tan colored cardstock lengthwise at 4 1/4″.
  2. Fold the pieces of card stock in half to create two card bases that measure 4 1/4″  x  5 1/2″.
  3. Adhere the back side of one of the card bases to the inside flap of the second card base. Make sure to line them up perfectly. You will now have a three-paneled card base.
  4. Trim 1/8 of an inch off your third panel so when you fold your card it will lay perfectly flat.
  5. Close your card so your third panel is in the middle and your left panel is on top. place your fourth sized oval die from your Stitched Ovals die set (#1113) in the center of your card so it lays horizontal.
  6. Run the entire card through your die cutting machine until your top two card layers have cleanly cut through. you will now have a left window panel, a middle solid panel, and a right window panel.
  7. Emboss your window panels one at a time with your favorite sea themed embossing folder or one that creates the look of water or rocks. (With this card I used a zebra pattern one that looks wavy.) Make sure you only emboss your window panels.
  8. Trim out a blue background panel measuring 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ and emboss it to match your window panels. You will adhere this to the middle solid panel to create your ocean background.
  9. Using your fourth and fifth size ovals from your Stitched Ovals set you will create a border for the front panel of your window card. Using a glue pen to apply a small amount to the back of the oval frame, carefully adhere it to the front of your card around the oval window.
  10. Using dies from the Seaweed die set (#1186) cut 7 green seaweed pieces, 2 orange coral pieces, 1 large and 2 small light pink coral pieces and the rims for them in darker pink, plus 5 brown big rocks and 5 brown small rocks.
  11. Using dies from the Small Shells die set (#1147) cut 1 brown starfish, 1 pink starfish and starfish overlay, 1 shell with its overlay.
  12. Cut 1 gray anchor using the Lighthouse die set (#1145).
  13. Cut 1 green sea turtle and sea turtle shell overlay using the Sea Turtle die set (#1185).
  14. Cut 2 layers of blue cardstock ocean waves the Boat die set (#1182). Adhere the pieces so one row of waves  ishigher than the other and trim them using the fourth size oval from the Stitched Ovals set, the same set used to cut out your windows.
  15. On the lower left corner of your card front, layer and adhere two green and one orange seaweed pieces and two brown rocks, one smaller, one larger.
  16. On the bottom right corner of your card front, layer and adhere one orange seaweed piece and three pink coral pieces, then add add one small rock and one large rock.
  17. On the inside of your front flap add one green seaweed and one brown starfish to the bottom right corner.
  18. On the inside of your right window panel adhere your two layers of ocean waves. The back of the waves is a perfect location to add your sentiment. I added a stamped image from the Ahoy Sentiments clear stamps set, ‘Have a  splashing day!’ (Tip: It’s easiest to stamp the sentiment before attaching the wave pieces to the window.)
  19. On the outside of your right hand window panel layer and adhere one green seaweed piece, one 1 pink double-layered shell and a large brown rock at the bottom left corner.
  20. On the bottom right corner arrange and adhere add three green pieces of seaweed, two large and two small brown rocks, one double-layered pink starfish, and the anchor.
  21. Lastly, add your sea turtle making sure to line him up so when you close the right window panel you can see that he is partly in the waves.
  22. Fold your card panels in and enjoy your triple-layered Deep Sea Adventure 🙂

KBAhoy1wm

Hi everyone,

It’s Frances Byrne here with my Pop it Ups Wednesday tutorial for April. This time I have created a card using the Hanging Charm Pull Tab die set. Instead of using the frame that comes with the die set I have used the Oval dies from the Stitched Ovals and Dotted Scallop Ovals. I am also playing with the new Boat die from Joset Designs.
