Summer Flowers Card Set

June 29, 2017

Hello there everyone, its Sanna here today with a fun and colorful project for the Die Cut Design Team.  It’s a Summer Flowers Card Set, and I want to share how easy it is to make more than one card using the same color palette with the Stitched Fishtail Banners and Fitted Circles dies, plus the Flower Power Clear Stamps set and coordinating Flower Power dies.

Here is how I created the cards:
1. Cut two pieces of white cardstock that are slightly smaller than two white side-fold card bases.
2. For the first card: Using embossing ink, stamp the large Flower Power image to fill a piece of cardstock from step 1.
3. Pour white embossing powder over the stamped area, tap off excess (return to the jar) and heat set the powder with a heat tool. Mind your fingers!
4. Apply green, yellow and orange Distress Ink with an ink blending tool over the embossed areas. The white lines will resist the inks.
5. Cut a window using a Fitted Circle die as shown.
6. Use black ink to stamp the same flower onto white cardstock. Apply clear embossing powder over the stamped image and heat set.
7. Cut out the flower with the coordinating Flower Power die. Color with Distress Crayons, using a water brush to create the watercolor effect. Glue Mint Prills to the center.

8. Using black ink, stamp the word ‘happiness’ from the Dream Sentiments Clear Stamps set onto a piece of white cardstock, and while ink is wet apply clear embossing powder. Heat set. Ink with with orange Distress Ink and cut with Stitched Fishtail Banners die.
9. Adhere the inked background with 3D foam onto the card base. Adhere the die cut flower in the circle. Adhere the ‘happiness’ banner. Trim at the right edge as needed.
10. For the second card: Use the same techniques, but this time stamp the background with black ink and color with only one tone, then adhere the positive die cut image (circle) onto the card. Add a stamped, heat-embossed sentiment (die cut into a banner). Decorate with a vellum purchased butterfly embellishment. For more details on how I created the cards, see the following video:

I hope you get inspired to create some Summer Flowers cards of your own. If you don’t think you’re good at coloring, don’t worry (I don’t think I am either!). The embossed outlines help hold in the colors and with this kind of shading it doesn’t need to be perfect. I hope this simple idea inspires you and gives you confidence to give it a try and get started.

Happy crafting,
xxx, Sanna
