Thank you for inviting me back as today’s guest designer for the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog.

The Stencil Flower Easel Album project came from a challenge I gave myself: To use turquoise and orange, a color combination that triggers a happy childhood memory. If you are “of a certain age” I’m guessing that you, too, will recall a certain chain restaurant called Howard Johnson’s, where my family went for the Friday Night All You Can Eat Fish Fry followed by a double scoop of ice cream from the long list of flavors. I can still picture the orange roof on the building, an invitation to drive into the parking lot.

The album began as basic black and I made sure that some of the original color remains visible through the swaths of Teal Metallic paint I used on the covers. An all-time favorite photo of puppies against an orange wall was the perfect fit for the window opening on the front of the album.

What color combination triggers a happy memory for YOU? Use that combination for your album project!

Instructions:

  1. Remove the front and back covers from the rings at the top of the album. Using the flat brush, paint the exterior of each cover with random strokes of Teal Metallic paint. Let paint dry.
  1. Using the stencil brush and Orange paint add three spirals to the front cover to create a strong triangle, and then fill in the rest of the cover with other smaller motifs from the stencil. Repeat on the back cover, or use the motifs in a different arrangement.
  1. Place the leftovers from a sheet of Orange Glitter Dots peel-offs onto orange cardstock.

  1. Using any Flower Set and Bunch of Flowers dies, die cut a mix of large and small flowers from Shimmer Sheetz in Orange Iridescent and Turquoise Gemstone, from the cardstock prepared in step 3, as well as from scraps of yellow-orange cardstock, glittered cardstock, and Shimmer Sheetz in Fire Opal and Ruby Gemstone (or any other cardstock, glittered cardstock, and Shimmer Sheetz you have on hand that coordinate with the Orange/Turquoise color combination).

Options: Lightly sand and/or emboss some of the die cut flowers before layering.

*Reminder – You must use the metal adaptor plate when die cutting Shimmer Sheetz. Review the YouTube video HERE if you are new to this technique.

  1. Layer the die cuts and bend and shape petals as shown or as you prefer. To complete the album as shown, make a total of six small and three large flowers. Cut small pieces of Tombow Power Adhesive Tabs to use between the layers of the flowers.

  1. Add an adhesive-backed pearl or Glitter Flower peel-off to the center of each flower.
  1. Arrange and adhere the flowers on the front cover, clustering them near the window opening so that there is a trio of small flowers at the upper left and lower right, a single large flower at the upper right, and a pair of large flowers at the lower left. Use several Power Adhesive Tabs to hold each large flower in place; use half a Power Adhesive Tab to hold each small flower in place.
  1. Add a photo to the window opening in the front cover. Reassemble the album.
