Happy Saturday! We meet again. It’s Suzanne back again today with another conversation with her craft supplies… Some of these supplies have been calling to me for a long time, others I had to coerce to come out to play. I promised them grand things!
Here is a birthday card for the people in your life who were born in the spring. They’re going to love the Magnolia flower placed on a rustic wooden surface and displayed on an easel card.
Here is how you make this card —
1. Cut a piece of purple cardstock to 6 x 12”. Fold in half to form a card base measuring 6 x 6”. Yes, this is a case of bait and switch when it came to the cardstock in the photographs! I tried a brighter purple for my first card base and then changed my mind as I invited a better colour to come out to play. I told the brighter purple I would use it next time to make it feel better. I really like making this card base so I’ll be seeing a lot of them in my future!
2. Center the Agatha Edges die across the front panel with the edges at 3” and the tip pointing toward the fold. Secure in place with low-tack (removable) tape. Open card (Important!) and die cut. Fold card to easel shape and admire. That was easy! Designer Tip: Use a soapstone pencil to mark dark cardstock. It brushes off easily when you no longer need it.
3. Trim a piece of Through the Lens Wood series patterned cardstock to 5.5” wide, making sure that the pieces of wood are oriented vertically as shown. Center the Agatha Edges die at the top and die cut. Position patterned paper on card base, aligning and offsetting decorative edges by approximately a quarter-inch. Adhere and trim patterned paper even with card base.
4. Die cut Happy Birthday from white cardstock and score across the middle of the diecut between the two words. Adhere the word Birthday to card base as shown, allowing Happy to fold up to become the stopper for the easel. Designer TIP: Alternatively, back only the bottom section of the white cardstock with Clear Double Sided Adhesive where the word Birthday will be positioned BEFORE die cutting instead of using glue to attach the greeting to the card front.
5. Create the Southern Magnolia as shown in Susan Tierney-Cockburn’s video tutorial HERE. Whisper gently to this beautiful flower as you adhere it to the card as shown.
6. Die cut Spring from white cardstock. Sponge with PanPastels in a colour of your choice (I used the Ochre from the center of the Magnolia) and adhere to card as shown.
Designer Tip: If you don’t wish to use the Magnolia, try one of the other flowers by Susan Tierney-Cockburn. I was delighted to learn how EASY they were to make from a few secret tips in her video tutorials. Yes, easy, I promise! (I’m no longer afraid of paper flowers! Join me – jump on in…) And if you want to make a card for someone born in a different season, choose a different flower and switch to the die for Winter, Summer, or Autumn.
This card told me that it really wanted to be sent in a box, even though the easel folds flat. I said not to worry, it was well worth the extras stamps!
Thanks for stopping in. Happy creating!
