A Way With Words Soft Finish Cardstock

Spring Birthday Card

February 29, 2016

By Jeanette Horner

Hello, Jeanette Horner here, sharing a card made for a dear friend of mine. She will celebrate her birthday on the first day of March. Happy Birthday, Kay! I hope you will enjoy this card as much as I did creating it. Spring is just around the corner. I can almost smell the flowers, can’t you?

Let’s  go!

Instructions:

  1. Cut White Soft Finish Cardstock to 7″ x 10 “, score midway, but do not fold in half to create a 5″ x 7” side-fold card base until after step 2.

  2. Emboss card front with Lots of Dots embossing folder. Turn folder sideways, emboss top half. Move folder to emboss bottom half (carefully lining up the dot pattern). Now fold the card base in half.

  3. Choose solid color cardstock in the palette shown or as you prefer. I picked 2 shades green, pale pink, and a buttery yellow.

  4. Die cut frame from the darker green cardstock. (Tip: Back cardstock with Clear Double Sided Adhesive before cutting.) Use the wavy frame for this project; set aside the other frames for more projects.

  5. Die cut Happy Birthday, peony stems and leaves from the lighter green cardstock.

  6. Die cut Happy Birthday, peony petals, a small heart (using the heart die from the center of Fitted Frames Curvy Squares), and a ribbon strip from pale pink cardstock. Die cut peony centers from yellow cardstock.

  7. Shade the petals, stems, leaves and heart with PanPastels from sets 1 and 3. Tip: After coloring/shading the petals add a tiny light touch of the colors used for the leaves to tint some of the petals (…just a little bit to draw the eye and duplicate real flowers!) Using the Susan’s Garden Tool Set, shape and form the petals, add details to leaves and stems. Use a fast-drying glue to assemble the flowers. Aren’t they beautiful!

  8. Assemble your card:  Glue the frame in place, then the flowers, stems, and leaves. Add the ribbon at the left. Layer Happy Birthday with pink offset over green so green becomes a dropped shadow.

  9. Add adhesive-backed half pearls to the ribbon at the upper left, the heart tucked into the leaves, and to the letter ‘i’ in Birthday.. Sit back and admire your creation!!
