Snowflakes

November 5, 2018

It’s Marilyn here today hoping you are well and enjoying the fall weather.
I want to share a Christmas card made with the gorgeous Snowflake stamp set and a make-it-yourself background. If you don’t have the paints you can easily use a piece of pretty patterned paper to emboss the snowflakes instead.

The steps to create the card are below:

Step 1: For the card base, cut an 12″ x 6″ piece of green cardstock, score at 6” and fold in half. Cut two 6” squares of White Soft Finish Cardstock, one for the middle insert and the other for the card front.

Step 2: This step can be eliminated and a piece of patterned paper substituted for the painted inset. If using the paints, it’s a good idea to do a practice piece first to get an idea how it will look. Using a spatula, spread and mix some Mint Green Viva Inka Gold and Lime Green Viva 3D Stamp Paint, making sure not to mix too much to ensure the two distinct colours – dark and light green – remain visible.  Spritz with water. Take one of the squares of white card stock and ‘smoosh’ (press down) into the paint mixture and pull up. Air dry or speed the process with a heat tool.

Step 3:  Leave the painted piece as is, or repeat the process with a very small amount of Gold Viva 3D Stamp Paint. This second application should be very sparse, it is an accent only. Option: Apply the paint with a sponge wedge or fingertip to control the placement and amount of paint that is applied. Set aside to dry.

Step 4: With pencil, lightly mark off a 2.5” diagonal area on the painted paper. Within this area, stamp several snowflakes with VersaMark ink and emboss with gold embossing powder.

Step 5: Cut the remaining white square on the diagonal to create top and bottom pieces as shown. Adhere to the painted piece with 6mm Transparent Double Sided Tape and trim to 5.75”, making sure to cover the pencil lines.  Using VersaMark Ink, stamp Merry Christmas toward the bottom left, cover with gold embossing powder and set with the heat tool.

Step 6:  To create three matching brads for embellishing the upper right corner of the card front: Working one at a time, use tweezers to hold the legs of the brad, press the top of the brad onto the VersaMark inkpad, cover with gold embossing powder and heat set. To finish the card, attach brads to card front and then adhere the completed panel to the green card base.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great week!
