Memory Never Fades

January 30, 2017

“Like an old photograph
Time can make a feeling fade
But the memory . . .
Never fades away.”

Hello Dear Friends, Shalini Pahwa here and welcome to my first post on the ECD blog. I’m super excited to be here. The above lyrics from American singer, songwriter and actor Tim McGraw are the essence of my latest creation. I have made this from an old hollowed-out table clock and I chose faded, antique looking colors to give it a worn look. I decorated it with flowers made with dies from the exquisite Susan’s Garden Club collection. This creation of mine is a reflection of what one really wants to hold onto in life – the reminiscence of good times past, incorporating those experiences and what we have learned from them into the present.

Here’s how to make this project:

1. Apply white gesso to a table clock that has the face and clockworks removed.

2. Make a paste of white gesso, modeling paste, and art stones and coat the surface. When dry, this textured surface readies the base for decoration.

3. Make several daisies using the Garden Notes Gerbera Daisy die set. Tint with archival inks to create fresh, realistic looking petals. Shape the flowers. Add Prills at the centers.

4. The Susan’s Garden tool set will make shaping easy. Add ivy vines and Garden Notes Tiger Lilies (as shown) or other Susan’s Garden flowers and leaves – whatever ones you love and as many as you want! Optional: Add chunky glitter and/or spray mist to the flowers and leaves.

5. The work was incomplete without a fairy so I created one using the Garden Notes Fairy – Tiger Lily die. I adorned her skirt with Lily petals and used Solar Gold Silk Microfine Glitter on her torso (to add a mystical look), and Leaf Green Silk Microfine Glitter to create sparkly gloves for her hands and sparkly shoes for her feet. Two lily petals were also added as an ornament atop her hair.

6. Optional: Add a quote, stamped on leaf cutouts from the Gerbera Daisy Die set, at the top of the clock.
