I’m thinking ahead to spring and summer and these adorable ocean themed dies and stamps are just perfect. This entire line will be available on the Elizabeth Craft Designs website very soon so keep an eye out for them! Meanwhile, here’s a little sneak peek for you.
This little Mermaid just couldn’t be any cuter and she goes together easily -so let’s get started.
I began by making my ocean background. I used Yupo and alcohol ink but you can use any paper for this. I cut a piece of Yupo Paper, which is really plastic paper, 5.25″ X 4″. I applied the alcohol ink solution over the top of the paper, spread it as evenly as possible and then dropped two colors of blue alcohol ink into it. Using a fan brush – I swiped through the ink with a horizonal motion to make it look like an ocean current. Alcohol inks dry very quickly so you need to start brushing right away.
The finished card size is 5.5″ X 4.25″ so I started with a Soft Finish Cardstock base that is 5.5″ X 11″, then scored and folded in half. On the front section I placed ECD Clear Double Sided Adhesive around the edges as shown above.
After removing the adhesive liner – Silk Microfine Glitter was sprinkled on.
After brushing off the excess glitter, I burnished the glitter with my finger, trapping it in the adhesive. This will make a glittery boarder for my ocean panel.
I really like this color combo and the glittered boarder adds to that ocean feel.
After setting my front panel aside, I cut out the cute little mermaid, some sand (using real sand paper that I barrowed from the garage) using the new Ocean Edges. The hair was cut using White Soft Finish cardstock and then I used some distress ink to color it. I used Fossilized Amber and Wild Honey.
For some parts of this adorable Mermaid – I cut the pieces using Double Sided Adhesive that was added to the cardstock and then die cut as shown below. I thought it would be fun to add more glitter.
As you can see from the photo above, it is easy to add the facial features on the Mermaid because the die makes an impression that shows you where they go. Easy Peasy. The die set also has pieces that cut out the eyes and lips for you.
Ok, fins have been glittered, lips, hair and eyes have been added – let’s put her together. By the way, you can also make a boy mermaid as the die set contains two different pieces for the hair.
Here the sand has been added along with some coral from the Seaweed set and some Starfish from the Diving Accesories set. Some little bubbles have also shown up and they were made using the ECD Transparent Craft Drops. See below for how I made these ahead of time and simply added them.
Because sometimes I’m not patient or careful with drops, I like to make mine ahead of time. I do this by dropping Craft Drops on a piece of liner that I have saved from the Clear Double Sided Adhesive. Once they are dry I simply roll up the liner and save them until I need them and then lift them off the liner and glue them on the project. This saves time and frustration.
Mermaid Kisses & Starfish Wishes from Joset’s new set was stamped on a vellum banner and added to the top of the card with more bubbles. This card was finished off with more coral and a seashell.
