Die Cut Design Team Designer Challenge – May

Negative Die Cut Cards May Die Cut Designer Challenge

Hi everyone,

Welcome to our May Die Cut Design Team Designer Challenge. This time round we have a technique to share with you that uses dies in a different way.

Our Challenge this month is ….. “Being Negative” – Normally when we use dies to cut we get a positive piece (the actual die cut) and a negative piece (the leftover piece or pieces that we often throw away). In many cases the negative pieces can also make interesting card components, and it is these pieces that are the focus of the Challenge cards. The Design Team can also incorporate the positive die cut piece if they wish.

Die Cut Design Team Designer Challenge – May

For our Challenge today we are giving away a Background Die Prize Pack that includes the Heart Background, Circles, Background, Chevron Background and Diamond Background to 3 winners.

To enter, simply leave a comment on this blog post below and answer this question: What are some project ideas where you could use die cut scrap pieces when crafting?

We will select 3 lucky winners in a random drawing.

The winners will be announced on Friday, May 5, here on the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog.

Now let’s take a look at the wonderful creations our talented Design Team have created for the Challenge this month. For more information about the cards, click on the designer’s name under each card to be taken to the designer’s blog post and will open up in a new window.

Negative Die Cut Cards by Frances Byrne

Frances Byrne created two cards for today’s challenge using both the Negative Die Cutting and Split Negative Techniques using White and Ladybug Red Soft Finish Cardstock. For her card Frances used the Stitched Hearts, Scalloped Hearts, Stitched Squares, Lovebirds and Love Sentiments from Els van de Burgt Studio. Frances also used the fine script word ‘love’ from the A Way with Words – Baby Love die set at the top left of the hearts.

Negative Die Cut Card by Selma Stevenson

Negative Die Cut Card 2 by Selma Stevenson

Selma Stevenson used the ModaScrap Stitched Fishtail Banners for her negative die cut piece. The Joset Designs Bee Sentiment stamped on the inside of the card can be seen through the opening on the front of the card. Selma also incorporate the ModaScrap Gatefold Roses on the top portion of her card and added a Joset Designs Bee and Els van de Burgt Studios Bunch of Flowers 4 to this panel. She chose the Lines Peel-Off Stickers to border the fishtail openings and accent the bottom of her card. Selma used White, Rich Black and Sunflower Soft Finish Cardstock to create her card.

Negative Die Cur Card by Birgit Norton

Birgit Norton used the ModaScrap Leafy Branch 5  for the negative die cut piece to create a shaker card. She decorated her card using the Dotted Scallop Ovals and Rose from Els van de Burgt Studio. For the sentiment Birgit chose the General Sentiment Clear Stamps from Joset Designs, layered onto a banner cut with a die from ModaScrap Stitched Fishtail Banners. She used Soft Finish Cardstock in Celadon Green, True Green and Perfect Pink.

Sandy Diller created a Thanks card using the ModaScrap Dandelion Fluff for her negative die cut piece. She also chose the Stitched Rectangles and Thanks die sets from Els van de Burgt Studio.

Negative Die Cut Card by Sanna Lippert

Negative Die Cut Card by Sanna Lippert

Sanna Lippert had so much fun with this challenge she created a number of cards using the technique. Two are above. For the ‘Hello’ card Sanna used the A Way with Words – Hello sentiment for her negative piece, adding Speckled Indigo Silk Microfine Glitter to add sparkle. She also used the Corners 1 from Els van de Burgt Studio to as a finishing touch.

For the ‘thinking of you’ card Sanna used the Peacock Feather from Joset Designs and a sentiment from the General Sentiments Clear Stamps set, also from Joset Designs. You can see more of Sanna’s challenge cards on her blog.

Negative Die Cut Card by Anita Kejriwal

Anita Kejriwal used both the positive and negative pieces for her card, made with the ModaScrap Pair of Leaves 1 set. She die cut White Soft Finish Cardstock and then colored the positive pieces and the background that shows through the openings using Distress Inks. Anita used the ModaScrap Stitched Fishtail Banners and a sentiment from the Joset Designs General Sentiments Clear Stamps set.

Negative Die Cut Card by Katelyn Grosart

Katelyn Grosart also used both the positive and negative die pieces for her card. She chose the ModaScrap Lacy Poppies die.  Katelyn used White Soft Finish Cardstock, and added Prills to the center of her poppy. For the sentiment she picked the Joset Designs General Sentiments Clear Stamps set atop a pink banner cut with one of the ModaScrap Stitched Fishtail Banners.

Negative Die Cut Card by Melanie Smith

Our final card for today is from Melanie Smith who has used the accessory dies from the Els van de Burgt Studio Entwined Ovals die set for the negative die cut element of her card. Melanie has embellished her card by using Silver Lines Peel-Off Stickers around the edge of her card and Glitter Dot Peel Off Stickers on the negative die cut elements of her card. Melanie has also created a pocket for her card using the ModaScrap Lace Pocket die set..

  • Antoinette Blogg May 4, 2017 at 8:53 pm

What a fun challenge for your design team! Such beautiful designs by everyone.

  • Mary May 4, 2017 at 7:38 pm

I love these ideas! I like to save ovals negatives, etc. for frames.

  • Ingrid Broekman May 4, 2017 at 3:18 pm

I regularly use die cut scrap pieces when crafting, most often as backgrounds. I try to use the negative as part of the inside of the card to tie it in with the Die Cuts used on the face of the card.

  • Rhea Ollett May 4, 2017 at 3:17 pm

I love these cards, and the idea of using the reverse part of the die cut. I try to do that as much as I can, and these cards have given me more ideas for my cards. Thanks.

  • Arlene Stump May 4, 2017 at 2:03 pm

I have carefully cut my die so that I can get another card from the negative. I love to use felt, fun foam, shimmer sheets, mirror cardstock and glimmer paper to fill in the cutout with another die cut. Just loving all my new stamps from Elizabeth Crafts and really appreciate your videos!

  • Christine Kosmak May 4, 2017 at 5:41 am

Oh dear, I just thought of another idea for using the scraps from die cuts! As STENCILS!!

  • Christine Kosmak May 4, 2017 at 5:36 am

Oooooops, forgot to say how gorgeous all of these cards are! If I had the room I would keep most scrap paper bits and make my own handmade paper! I do actually have a paper making kit that i hope to get to use one of these days!! lol!

  • Christine Kosmak May 4, 2017 at 5:32 am

Some doilies etc when die cut, leave you with little hearts that are easy to use in shaker cards etc! I always save these and any other pieces that I think might be useful for something else!

  • Christine Kosmak May 4, 2017 at 5:27 am

Depending on the sizes of the pieces, I’ve kept some for doing a mosaic effect and some can be used for confetti/shaker cards, larger pieces can be used to die cut smaller pieces, like the centre of flowers/small flowers, raindrops etc.

  • Wendy maughan May 4, 2017 at 2:44 am

Hi els, great products , I have some of your dies and they are very good quality. With the scraps of card I would make a jig saw as background and you could die cut again for a different look. Thanks Wendy maughan

  • LisaM6 May 3, 2017 at 3:03 pm

What wonderful ideas. I have a container full of all types of die cuts to to be used at a later time. I have graduation caps cut and ready to make cards for the 5 cousins graduating this spring.

  • Sandy Harrington May 3, 2017 at 2:42 pm

I like to use up my scraps for making flowers and die cutting sentiments.

  • Kathy S May 3, 2017 at 2:03 pm

I have used the pieces left from die cuts to make clothes for my snowmen and little critters on winter cards and also to make snow or rain drops on backgrounds. I save all pieces and use as many as possible whenever I can.

  • Allana Merrill May 3, 2017 at 1:42 pm

Love the ideas. I use the negative of flower cuts to fill in the spaces with different colours. Beautiful results.

  • Joan Frantzen May 3, 2017 at 1:23 pm

They could make interesting shaker cards — select a few spaces randomly around the piece, insert beads or sequins, and cover the whole thing with acetate.

  • Jody May 3, 2017 at 1:15 pm

I save my scraps for small sentiments or just when u need something like a heart to star for embellishments. Or sometimes to try something first before making an actual card or project. I have a hard time throwing scraps away.

  • geri S. May 3, 2017 at 11:48 am

These cards are amazing! The only thing I know of to use scraps was for a mosaic techniquw. Now I have to look at my dies differently! thanks!

  • Karen May 3, 2017 at 11:33 am

Thank you for all the inspiration these beautiful cards have inspired! I hate throwing any paper away and now have more ideas on how to use all the die cuts I have saved. Thank you!

  • Yvette Williams May 3, 2017 at 11:21 am

Die cut scraps can be used on multiple projects depending on the material used. Example: fabric..use as patches, include in quilting, make iron ons.
I’ve used plastic and made them into templates and shrink a dinks.
Cardstock I used to decopauge, use the die cuts to add dimension to my project.
I love using die cuts. My dies are almost as large as my stamping supplies…lol

  • Jeanne H May 3, 2017 at 11:15 am

You can use the negative piece as a stencil. Especially if you cut out the focal piece from heavy cardstock or even packaging material.

  • Leontyne Thomas May 3, 2017 at 10:37 am

Card making. Can use scraps to make a Mosaic type patterns or stripes or smaller shapes to fill up a bigger shape.

  • C Godwin May 3, 2017 at 10:10 am

Such diversity in all these cards. Love the concept of using the negative space to get even more creativity with the dies. Well done!

  • kimgyu May 3, 2017 at 9:15 am

Wonderful cards! I love background dies! I love the question about scraps. Scraps are good for all sorts of projects! My scrappy friend makes fun of me for saving them, but when she needs a special color, we always can find it in my scrap stash! Ha Ha! I used scraps mostly for die cutting. They are perfect for word dies.

  • Linda Agers May 3, 2017 at 8:32 am

Beautiful cards! Great inspiration. I save all my scraps, too.

  • Linda Agers May 3, 2017 at 8:30 am

WOW! So much creative inspiration. I’ve just started exploring the use of negative space. It makes an interesting contrast to your art work.

  • Linda Agers May 3, 2017 at 8:30 am

  • mary treaxy May 3, 2017 at 8:25 am

    love these cards!

  • Cynthia Davison May 3, 2017 at 8:25 am

Cover a piece of card-size paper with scraps. Then cover these scraps with the negative cut-out from your favorite die.

  • Jo May 3, 2017 at 3:56 am

Using both the positive and negative makes best use of our papers. Its also another way of producing 2 cards for the price of 1.

  • Lillian Eng May 3, 2017 at 1:59 am

Beautiful cards! If the cut out are small enough, I use them as shaker bits in shaker cards, confetti or filler in glass ornaments. Larger bit are use to accent a card or can be made into stencil.

  • S Duran May 2, 2017 at 11:44 pm

Negative spaces can be used as contrasting inlays. Also, they can be used as stencils.

  • S Duran May 2, 2017 at 11:41 pm

Negative spaces can be used for layering cards- using contrasting colors can be more intriguing. Also, they can be used as stencils.

  • Donna Levine May 2, 2017 at 11:17 pm

I make a ton of butterflies and bees with all my scraps and always add them to any flower card. I love all your dies. Cards are very inspiring!!

  • Kathy Ferguson May 2, 2017 at 10:56 pm

I save everything and try to find a way to use it later. I like the idea of using die leftover to make shaker cards. Sometimes I include the actual die cut on the inside. Thanks for sharing all the new designs that you received.

  • Linda Davidson May 2, 2017 at 10:55 pm

I can’t throw away any paper! I use scraps in a variety of ways sometimes I do like a pieced background and just add a sentiment! Now the die cuts I sometimes use as a stencil for another card! Love your ideas thanks for sharing!

  • Cindy Wilson May 2, 2017 at 9:46 pm

I never throw my negatives away. I use some of them for frames, I use others with different colour paper underneath and heaps i have used as stencils depending on the shape and thickness. Im so pleased Im not the only one who hoards my scraps.

  • Arlene McClung May 2, 2017 at 9:35 pm

I like to inlay and don’t do enough. So many uses for dies.

  • Barbara Woodard May 2, 2017 at 9:13 pm

I haven’t done much with my negatives of die cuts. they go into a box on my desk waiting for me to have the spirit move me and do something with them. all the ideas from your design team give me the incentive to get them out and come up with a card.

  • Linda H May 2, 2017 at 9:05 pm

This is one time when “negative” is a good thing! Loved the cards!

  • Lynn L May 2, 2017 at 8:54 pm

negative die cuts can be used for stencils and many can be used as shaker cards if you layer several of the same shapes to create the space for your shaker material.

  • Amy Cooley May 2, 2017 at 8:51 pm

I think that some of the smaller die cut pieces could be used for shaker cards. It’s great to have new ideas to stretch my supplies.

  • Jenny Smith May 2, 2017 at 8:41 pm

Beautiful cards. Just love this technique. I have been using the die negatives for a while in my card making. I also use the little bits you poke out of the die as embellishments on some of my cards. I save them in little glass bottles, so you can imagine the collection! lol Thank you for sharing these beautiful creations.

  • Jan Spence May 2, 2017 at 8:35 pm

I made a card using the negative from cutting out succulents. Watercolored the background…since my negative was in white, I raised it above the varied water colored background. Came out really well.

  • Carole Ferguson May 2, 2017 at 8:24 pm

I love the cards. One of my very favorite die techniques is inlay. I often use my die to cut several different papers and mix ‘n match the negative pieces with the positive die cut pieces. I can make several card fronts at once and the results are just beautiful.

  • Mary Bedsted May 2, 2017 at 8:22 pm

Wonderful cards, I love to use up scraps. I make it a challenge to use as many as possibly

  • Sharon O May 2, 2017 at 8:08 pm

Wonderful projects! The DT is so talented and really came up with some wonderful ideas. I save every single die cut scrap, even keeping them color-coded [well, most of the time!] I use them a lot for stencils or to build a new background on another project. Thanks for the beautiful inspirations!

  • Kay H. May 2, 2017 at 8:07 pm

Many years ago when you came to Chandler AZ, I took a class you taught and it was using both the positive and negatives of a die cut to make beautiful cards. I would love to have these background dies.

  • Natalie Godfrey May 2, 2017 at 8:01 pm

Using strips of different pattern paper and making a rainbow background.

  • Donna Hicks May 2, 2017 at 8:01 pm

These are great dies. I love these cards.I save all scraps and I make gift boxes and cards to give to family and friends. Would love to win these dies. Thanks for sharing.

  • Sue LD May 2, 2017 at 7:42 pm

Wonderful cards. I collect my leftover pieces in a box and sort through when I am making another card.

  • DeeAnn K May 2, 2017 at 7:22 pm

Never waste a scrap. The negatives are just as important as the dies! Great cards ladies!

  • DeeAnn Kleinschmidt May 2, 2017 at 7:20 pm

The negatives never go to waste. There are such beautiful cards you can make out of them. They are just as important as the dies themselves. Great cards ladies!!

  • Tracy Lustick May 2, 2017 at 7:07 pm

I often determine what dies I purchase by the negative cuts left behind , truly ! I do some of my best card fronts from negative die cuts , like rain drops from scrolls . Just amazing what you can do with waste from dies ? !

  • ANN ROBBINS May 2, 2017 at 7:02 pm

All is in the perspective! Thanks so much for reminding me to look at the negative!!!

  • Barbara Crichton May 2, 2017 at 6:00 pm

Those are all such lovely cards! I loved the question you asked, because the past few days I have been using my scraps to make some really adorable little booklets to go in my prayer journals. I’ve also been making layered tags, some with the original images on top of a tag, and some with the negative images layered over the tag.

  • Sylvia Fairbanks May 2, 2017 at 5:52 pm

I have so many little scraps of paper! They always come in handy for dressing up a card, or making a quick gift card !
I love the ideas shared on your web sight.

  • Rosalie Ridle May 2, 2017 at 5:50 pm

Love your ideas for the negative scraps. I save all cuts thus lots of pieces for creating! The butterfly die, dragon fly, car and pick-up dies are some to be used as stencils or for negative ideas. Love the possibilities and love Elizabeth Craft Designs !!
Thanks for the chance to win your lovely dies! I was at your booth at Sac Expo!Fun!

  • Nance May 2, 2017 at 5:41 pm

I use many negative die cuts as just 1 of 5 cards I can make with 1 die cut! I place a piece of waxed paper next to the cutting edge of the die, then top it with cardstock. I use the main image & the negative die cut. By ironing the waxed paper die cut between 2 pieces of light colored cardstock, I can make 2 resist colored cards. And finally, I can encase the waxed paper die cut itself under a plastic bag or sheet and use it in a card!

  • Marcheta Bender May 2, 2017 at 5:30 pm

I use leaves, flowers, etc on the inside of the card. You could also use the negative side to wrap around a glass, place a battery operated tea light and have a themed candle holder.

  • Mary Anne Fisher May 2, 2017 at 5:23 pm

What wonderful cards. Always anxious to see what your wondersful staff is going to create next. My grandchildren love to have confetti pop out of their cards so that is what I use some of the cutouts for. Depending on the die I sometimes use the outlayer of the die that I just used for another card.

All of the cards are beautiful and so full of creative ideas that will be easy to incorporate in my projects. Thank you for sharing them!!

  • christi May 2, 2017 at 5:04 pm

I would love to see my pick peeking out from the neg space on my layouts.

  • Marjorie L Estey May 2, 2017 at 5:04 pm

The cards are absolutely beautiful. Thank you for the great ideas.

  • Shari D May 2, 2017 at 4:56 pm

I save all my scraps because you never know when you could use them on a project. You could use the negative circles as bubbles and layer them. Any of the pieces would be great for confetti or shaker cards.

  • Kathy K May 2, 2017 at 4:40 pm

When I am cutting intricate dies from glitter paper, I save the tiny negative pieces to add to shaker cards later down the road…works perfectly!

  • Cynthia Link May 2, 2017 at 4:37 pm

Hi you have such gorgeous cards displayed today! Love the negative idea! I use pieces in scrapbook pages, cards, and tags, and I’ve even made decorations to put in picture frames. I keep all my scraps in a box (which is overflowing). Some days I have “use the scraps only” days! This way, if I use what I have, I can buy more!! lol!

  • Daria May 2, 2017 at 4:20 pm

Thank you for all the ideas; I love the sample cards. I have used the negative pieces left over from die-cutting circles, ovals, and rectangles as frames. My favorite way to use the leftovers from shaped dies is the inlaid technique. I also like to use the negative piece over a special background that I’ve made so that it shows through the opening. Now I’m going back to read what everyone else said so I can get more tips for using the negative pieces.

  • Selma Sue Rose May 2, 2017 at 3:49 pm

Wow, what great ideas. I hate throwing anything away, so like a lot of other people I use them has stencils, but lately, I have been using them to make quilt patterns for baby quilts. and we have a local hospital where we can donate them to the nursery and the family really seem to enjoy them.

  • Louise Sciutto May 2, 2017 at 3:45 pm

Little extra pieces can be used for ATC cards, collage, on a card, I guess the list can go on and on.
Thanks to the great team, I received my order with the corrected address in just a few days. So thankful to catch it before it left the warehouse. I am new to your site and love it, sorry I missed it years before.

  • Sharman May 2, 2017 at 3:31 pm

I started using all the background’s from the sticker dies, like the glue dots and lines etc. I am using the outlines from like the roses etc also. I also use the negative pieces from the word dies and I used some of the negatives from the flower bunches. I started putting a piece of double sticky tape on white card stock and after I cut out my die, I keep the left over piece and use it to cute out anything else and if I can, I use the release sheet for either a die or a negative to glitter. So many possibilities…

  • Bonita Brock May 2, 2017 at 3:14 pm

Awesome cards. I would use them on my cards mostly……they would also be great on scrapbook pages.

  • Jean Chaney May 2, 2017 at 3:13 pm

Beautiful inspiration! I use my cut-outs from dies as stencils. Tape them down and use sprays or texture pastes. Fun!

  • Carol b May 2, 2017 at 3:12 pm

I never throw out any of he negative pieces. Depending on their design, they can be combined in many ways; backgrounds, layers, etc.

Some great ideas. Waste little use most., especially when you are using a really nice card stock or printed paper. I sometimes use the negative pieces to create frames in my card making and scrapbooking.

  • Shamra Sykes May 2, 2017 at 2:54 pm

Hello. I’m a scrapbooker, card maker and crafter from Portland Oregon. I use my scraps in most of my paper projects including scrapbooking, cards and tags.

  • Terrie Wytosick May 2, 2017 at 2:52 pm

You can use double stick tape on the back of the card stock and say you are using a rose you can use the neg. to decorate lampshades

  • Anneke May 2, 2017 at 2:40 pm

Great cards and great ideas using the “negatives”. I hate waisting material so either I cut out as much as possible, still saving the scraps often useful for punches, but I also use the “negatives” as backgrounds, sometimes on the inside of the card, and as stencil.
Everybody good luck with the giveaway.

  • Marjon May 2, 2017 at 2:37 pm

I use them as the shadow of the image and as mask for my cards. Little leftovers I use for little flowers and sentiments.

  • Preeti D. May 2, 2017 at 2:36 pm

Beautiful projects and this is one of my favorite themes 🙂 love that nothing is wasted and creative ways to use negative die cuts were explored. I usually use negatives as stencils, in shaker cards, to create lil window scenes and also in mixed media projects for adding texture 🙂

  • Mary Hadd May 2, 2017 at 2:34 pm

These are awesome! I have used the negative dies on some of my cards but was a little hesitant. These have provided LOTS of great ideas! GREAT WORK!

  • Elaine Weberg May 2, 2017 at 2:05 pm

I’ve never done this technique before, but if I do I would use them on cards.

  • Holley Downs May 2, 2017 at 2:04 pm

Love all these cards! I use my negative space for stencils or shaker cards! If I don’t use them, I save them for future products!

  • Linda Kleman May 2, 2017 at 2:03 pm

Love all the gorgeous card! I usually save all my scraps/die cuts for card night. I lay the scraps in the middle of the tables for the ladies to use, and out of no where they’ve created some pretty stunning projects. The ladies love it!

  • Eydie May 2, 2017 at 2:03 pm

Hola! I adore background dies and the negative pieces are a load of fun. I use them on cards, layouts, art journaling and mixed media projects. Using transfer tape to pick up all the negative pieces from the die makes the process super easy. I can totally see using them with double sided tape and the fine glitter!

  • sophia m May 2, 2017 at 2:02 pm

    Love the bees card!!!!!

  • JoAnn Salmon May 2, 2017 at 1:55 pm

Very pretty cards. I like to use my die negatives as stencils.

  • Christina Dauven May 2, 2017 at 1:45 pm

I usually save scraps for my shaker cards or even in designing card panels. Sometimes i even use my negative to ink up a shaddow behind my figure or subject since the shape is the same.

  • Maggie Neil May 2, 2017 at 1:39 pm

I have learned so many valuable craft ideas from Elizabeth Craft Designers! I couldn’t possibly choose a favorite-they are all brilliant & dazzling! I never think to use the negative cutouts but will be using them now! Thank you for sharing:)

  • christi May 2, 2017 at 1:21 pm

there are so many cute samples here. I was thinking how cool to have some of my pics peeking through the negative space on my scrapbook pages.

  • Tulika Saha May 2, 2017 at 1:21 pm

Wonderful inspirations by DT’s. I would like to use the leftovers or negatives in Mixed media projects & as a stencil. They can give nice embossing effects! Dies actually are very versatile to use…. Isn’t it?

  • Pamela Lozano May 2, 2017 at 1:16 pm

WOW, I know I know, scraps are always useful, I use scrap pieces for flower dies and animal dies and don’t forget Word Dies you can always use a Scrap for anything especially fussy cutting too.

  • Janet Gundrum May 2, 2017 at 1:15 pm

I a transfer sheet to take the negative bits of a medallion to put on the inside of a card that I used the medallion on the outside. Some great ideas here. Thanks for Technique Fridays!

  • Pat Swearingen May 2, 2017 at 1:11 pm

I have a scrap box that includes all the pieces of die cut that I haven’t used. That is one of the first places I look when needing some inspiration. The negative spaces from simple leaves and flowers can be used on the front of my cards and some of the smaller pieces can be used on the inside for a border or a simple corner image.

  • Brigitta May 2, 2017 at 1:07 pm

The cards are all lovely, but I think I like the red and white one best.

I use scraps for inlay techniques. Or I cut small flowers or butterflies from scraps, especially from scraps that are already covered with double sided tape. They are handy to use in future projects.

  • Gerry Wolfe May 2, 2017 at 1:00 pm

I use my scrap pieces to cut out different shape to make embellishments for cards, tags, mini albums , & scrapbook pages. I create banners, flowers, & letters just to name a few. I even fussy cut things from designer paper scraps.

  • Joyce Moore May 2, 2017 at 12:55 pm

The negative makes a great stencil to use on inside of card or to make a different card.

  • Kateryna Tereshchenko May 2, 2017 at 12:49 pm

Actually. it depends on a die – its size and shape – where to use scraps. If leftover piece is big enough I use it to cut again – it can be a corner or a flower… or a letter… Small pieces may be good for shakers. Some leftover pieces look cute on scrap pages.

  • Vicki Etheridge May 2, 2017 at 12:44 pm

I love this idea. I think the ‘negative’ effect could be used so often to form a shadow of the image, as Katelyn Grosart’s above card does. Thanks for always providing us with and challenging us with “think outside the box” ideas!

  • Debbie Emmons May 2, 2017 at 12:38 pm

I would and have used the negative for a stencil, with modeling paste, inks, paints.

  • Nandini Karmarkar May 2, 2017 at 12:28 pm

Beautiful cards. And so many clever ways of using the negative pieces. I love to use my negative die cuts to make one more card, especially with the basic shapes. They are also useful in smaller projects like tags, bookmarks etc.

  • donna mikasa May 2, 2017 at 12:23 pm

Beautiful inspiration from the DT! I like to use the negative space as a stencil and create a stenciled background.

  • Mary Swanson May 2, 2017 at 12:16 pm

I use the dots as a background to create my own polka-dotted paper for scrapbooking. I especially like using black dots on white paper; simple and stunning.

  • Arianna Barbara May 2, 2017 at 12:08 pm

Wow! Stunning cards!!! Love this technique! Love it!!! I like to use them on my scrapbook pages and like background for other cards.

  • Karin Lee May 2, 2017 at 12:06 pm

    Fun technique,can’t wait to try.

  • Richard H. May 2, 2017 at 12:04 pm

I use some of the negatives for stenciling.

  • Deb Riddell ~ Paxton Valley Folk Art May 2, 2017 at 12:01 pm

Fabulous ‘negative’ creations from the DT! I love using the negative die cuts and then piecing an alternate colour of the positive die cut pieces back into the negative die cut or often use the negative die cuts as stencils. Thanks so much for the opportunity to win your generous giveaway! Deb xo

  • Nancy Jones May 2, 2017 at 11:59 am

These are gorgeous cards. A new way to look at the negative space and will add so much more to my card making. LOVE THEM!!

  • Carol Macsas May 2, 2017 at 11:54 am

Cards, of course, and scrapbook pages. Then they could be used around candles or votives (artificial, not real due to fire danger), cupcake or favor holders. Stencils. It’s going to be hard to throw scraps of paper out after seeing this!

  • karen wade May 2, 2017 at 11:53 am

I have not used my dies in this way till I watched Els, now I look at all my EC dies differently. thanks for the chance to win

  • HK May 2, 2017 at 11:52 am

Again Beautiful cards and idea’s, Thanks Design team! Looking forward to the next challenge.
About your question: I use my die cut scraps as stencils with ink or template to draw a background. Mostly the branches with leaves and butterflies.

  • Karen M. May 2, 2017 at 11:52 am

I often use my dies to cut cloth for my quilts. Love the poppy card.

  • Dorthy May 2, 2017 at 11:49 am

I make stencils from my negatives and sometimes just use them as the background for another card.

  • Chris K May 2, 2017 at 11:46 am

Love the stencil idea, thanks everyone. Another idea for the die cuts being given away is to use the negative with washi tape. If you use sparkly washi with the heart die or water colors behind the bubble/circle die and orange/brown/turquoise for a southwest field with the other two. Happy card making!

  • Rose Bell May 2, 2017 at 11:44 am

I love your Die’s and what you can do with them!! I have 57 policemen that I’m doing Birthday cards for through my Church. I haven’t done to many guys cards , cause I have 6 sister’s,etc. I think with these Die’s I could do some good guy cards! I’m 63 and retired and love to watch Elizabeth’s videos. Thanks

  • Bev May 2, 2017 at 11:38 am

    I love the Lacey poppies

  • Vivian C. May 2, 2017 at 11:32 am

Super inspiration samples! Watching Els’ videos I’ve been learning lots of tricks for using die cuts both positive and negative. Some other ideas that spring to mind are using the little fall out pieces in shaker cards, using the fall out pieces to create characters, taking small fall out pieces to create a raised random background and using the negative to create a window in a box or bag. Keeping my fingers crossed that I am one of the lucky winners of this awesome prize package.

  • Kathleen Adams May 2, 2017 at 11:30 am

I think all of these designer cards today are so clever. It’s interesting that I was going to pick a favorite and scrolled back up, but honestly, I really love them all. Can’t wait to make one!

  • virginia May 2, 2017 at 11:30 am

I use my negative die cuts as stencils also as layer over pretty paper as you have done.

  • Deanna Hanlin May 2, 2017 at 11:28 am

Especially like the leaves, feather, and Dandylion Fluff examples. I would use the chevron negative pieces as arrows in my Bible Journaling and the circles as masks.

  • Kathy Krug May 2, 2017 at 11:27 am

I use the negatives on many of my cards, but these ideas are fabulous. thanks for the inspiration.

  • Erika Watson May 2, 2017 at 11:26 am

You can make shirts, greeting cards, ornaments heck the list positivity is endless.

  • Catherine Gudaitis May 2, 2017 at 11:25 am

I use negative pieces on card projects all the time. I also use them to punch tiny flowers from them, to save on cardstock. My scraps supply grows, so using the negative, by cutting one in each of two colors, swapping positives, and making two cards, saves also. More saving, more $ to buy more dies.?

  • Kathy Dreyer May 2, 2017 at 11:19 am

I often use the negative piece to make a frame like window on the front of a card with a one word sentiment inside that piece. I ,also, use the pieces as borders, at the edge of bookmarks and tags, to decorate the inside of a card and I save many larger pieces for my granddaughters to trace and create many projects of their own.

  • Delores Stotler May 2, 2017 at 11:17 am

Love your dies. I just made the accordion fold die for my grand daughter’s graduation from birth to graduation.

  • Ms Match May 2, 2017 at 11:16 am

I never throw away a single scrap of paper plus I use a lot of cut out negative pieces to glue on plain white wrapping paper for wrapping presents. I
have also glued them onto shoe boxes and even envelopes to match the positive piece.

  • Priyanka Gokave May 2, 2017 at 11:12 am

I glue them together and use it as stencils to create backgrounds with inks and also in mix media projects.
Use them in scrapbooks to create frames

  • Loralei May 2, 2017 at 11:11 am

I use the negatives for borders on cards, confetti for shaker cards, and for die cutting tiny shapes to enhance the cards.

  • Angelina Quinones May 2, 2017 at 11:08 am

i like to take some of the scraps and take versa mark ink and cover the paper all over and use embossing powder and the heat gun then, use all the dies and cut them or take out my trimmer and trim thin strips and use them on a card.

  • Pamela Butler May 2, 2017 at 11:03 am

I am just beginning card making and love your products. I would use the negatives as stencils and could also use a a shadow behind positive. Just thinking…..bewbie

  • Tosha May 2, 2017 at 11:01 am

Dies are my favorite! I save bits and pieces of paper in a box that I go to regularly to use the bits with my smaller dies. As for the negative space…several glued together can make an embossing folder (sheet). They work well for paper piecing or iris fold paper craft. Waste Not Want Not!

    • Deanna Hanlin May 2, 2017 at 11:30 am

I keep the scraps too, but never thought of gluing several together to make an embossing sheet. Have used as a stencil. Thanks for the tip Tosha!

  • Shirley Kraft May 2, 2017 at 10:58 am

You could make a background also out of the pieces left over.

  • Lori G May 2, 2017 at 10:58 am

I like to use pieces of gold card stock as edging or flower pieces, or with a colorful background showing through! It is great to try to make the most of your supplies!

  • Marie May 2, 2017 at 10:55 am

Stunning cards! I like to use the negative when I die cut a jar; putting the acetate behind it and filling
it with whatever is appropriate for the person I am sending it to. Then I also have the jar to use for
    another card.

  • Karen May 2, 2017 at 10:54 am

Wonderful cards ladies!!! There is always a way to take something a negative and make it something positive! Thanks for these examples!!! 🙂

  • Joela Pascoe May 2, 2017 at 10:53 am

What to do with scraps, inlay cards if multiple cuts in different colours would be cool with circle or heart background dies. If small confetti size use in shaker cards. Use negative space as a stencil on background would look good with the feather die. Use as a mask and colour the background of single flower image then foam tape up your image will have to try with the poppy die.

  • Karen Germann May 2, 2017 at 10:43 am

Negative space is a great place to utilize bits of leftover paper that were too small or irregularly shaped for anything else. Adhere them on from the back side before mounting on a card base. I also like the red heart card (above) method which is similar in concept to a Jennifer McGuire video where 2 cards were created that were opposites. Love the challenge and ideas it created to help us get more from our supplies! 🙂

  • PA May 2, 2017 at 10:43 am

Using scraps from Hearts and Circle Backgrounds die…use them to make 3-D “floating” hearts and “bubbles”/spheres streamers/garlands using shimmer sheets , fishing line, liquid or dry adhesive, crimp beads….chandelier with memory wire, 6mm, 4mm bicone crystals, 3-D hearts and “bubbles”, spheres dangling throughout chandelier piece.. Similar to DreamCatcher except “circle”/rim would be horizontal instead of vertical, each “streamer” graduated in a spiral design using crimp beads, seed beads, bicone crystals

  • PA May 2, 2017 at 10:41 am

Shaker cards are fun to make with the negatives!

  • Claudette Olkowski May 2, 2017 at 10:41 am

Love the card examples, especially the card with the poppy. Negative space can add perspective to any project – cards or scrapbook pages. I really like to use the negative of words.

  • Claudette Olkowski May 2, 2017 at 10:35 am

Love the cards. Negative cuts can add interest to many cards. I have also used them for words on scrapbook pages. Gives a different perspective to words on cards and pages.

  • Deanna Morgan May 2, 2017 at 10:33 am

What a fun blog entry! The ideas of the design team are wonderful! Thanks for continued ideas on ways to be a good steward of all our left overs. That’s one of the things I enjoy about you Els! I’ve learned how to be a better consumer by seeing/watching your blog and YouTube. Thank you!!! Wish I had subscribed much earlier!

  • Virginnia Herring May 2, 2017 at 10:30 am

I am fairly new to card making and constantly watch Technique Friday with ELS on You Tube. In fact I have become quite obsessed to my family’s consternation as my card making equipment has taken over the whole living room . I have taken Els advice and never throw away my negative images so they may be used in another project. I also keep all my release paper as she instructs and both items are frequently used. I particularly love to use her silk microfine glitter technique on the Elizabeth double sided adhesive sheets and then use the remaining diecut release sheet as a stencil for additional silk microfine glitter projects.

  • Katherine May 2, 2017 at 10:30 am

I am obsessed with dies and these dies would enhance my card making and all my other craft endeavors. Thanks for the chance to win them.

  • Charity Chamberlain May 2, 2017 at 10:27 am

Beautiful creations by all! I personally love to use the die cut pieces to “frame out” edges of cards and scrapbook pages or “frame out” words and images. I’ll use them to make stencils or to create my own embossing. I as well like to cut two of the same die and then use the pieces to add another layer on the first piece to give some dimension. I often find that I like cutting several in different colors to do inlay techniques as this allows me to make several cards at one time, yet each is different because of mixing the inlay colors, while eliminating the need to throw any scraps away because I used them on every card. But my most favorite technique for using the pieces is to apply them to mixed media arts like canvas and wooden boxes. Really the options are endless on how to use these pieces which makes die cutting so much fun! Even my cats love the extra pieces as they tend to snag a couple from me while I’m crafting 😉

  • Alyce May 2, 2017 at 10:25 am

Wonderful cards! I use the negative of some die cuts as a stencil.

  • Pam Traffis May 2, 2017 at 10:25 am

I think it would be fun to incorporate the leftovers into making a shaker card.

  • Debra Carrubba May 2, 2017 at 10:21 am

Great cards. Very inspiring. I keep all parts and pieces of my dies. I hate throwing things away. I use the pieces on the inside the card, on the backside and also on the envelopes. I use scraps to cut another die that I wanted in that color. Makes great butterflies, small flowers, etc.

  • Clare Curcio May 2, 2017 at 10:18 am

All of the cards were lovely! I use the negative part of a die cut quite often. My favorite creation was using all of the teardrop-shapes cuttings as flower petals to make a 3D flower, and used the background from the cutting as the card base. There are so many uses for them!

  • Susan Robinson May 2, 2017 at 10:16 am

I used the negative to stencil an image.
    http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/photo/2797946?&cat=500&ppuser=115046

  • Amanda Butler May 2, 2017 at 10:15 am

You can use them to make beautiful tags to put on presents and wine glasses as a gift. It adds that personal special touch!

  • Sandy Schoonover May 2, 2017 at 10:15 am

I have a collection of stencils that I have saved from the wastebasket. They come in handy for many projects. I made a beautiful container from an empty five gallon ice cream container by stenciling it with several “negative scraps” then sealing it with mod podge. It made a wonderful gift I donated for a silent auction.

  • Debra Carrubba May 2, 2017 at 10:14 am

Beautiful cards. Very inspiring! I save almost all the pieces in my die cuts. I add them to other cards, inside of cards, backside also. Even on the envelopes. There are so many things that one can do with the whole diecuts.

  • Marsha D May 2, 2017 at 10:05 am

So many beautiful ideas. Thank you ladies. I have used the negative space before (like in the “hello” card) but am so happy to see these ideas.

  • Barb macaskill May 2, 2017 at 10:04 am

Stunning cards! I use my die cut scraps/negatives on collages, canvases and altered art pieces to name a few ideas! Many of the negatives are great for using as masks, creating shadowbox/tunnel type cards with scenes. They are also great for framing the inside sentiment so that you wind up with a more finished looking card and it is also more cohesive! Smaller die cut scraps are great to use for filling shaker cards too!
Would love to win this awesome quartet of background dies! I see lots of “confetti” in the three winners future! Hope to find out that I am one of them! ? and thank you for the chance to win them!

    • Barb macaskill May 2, 2017 at 10:06 am

Forgot to add that the negatives are good as stencils and for paper piecing also!

  • Anne Lewis May 2, 2017 at 10:04 am

I use all my scraps. A lot on the outside but also on the inside. I love to make flowers with them and add to my cards. Also your cards are beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

  • Tracy Steinbach May 2, 2017 at 10:03 am

Beautiful Cards I am just blown away by the way someone can look at a die in a whole different way! It gives you so many more options when using your dies. I am not always the person to see that. I save simple scraps like heart cut outs or stars to just add that little extra to a card. Using the negative is something I need to start looking at. Thanks for the eye opener!!!!

  • Karen Hillery May 2, 2017 at 10:03 am

I have often thought the negative piece was interesting, and possibly useful, when die cutting. I LOVE the ideas in the samples. So creative. Since I hate throwing things away, this makes my heart happy. I think it would be interesting to patchwork together a crazy quilt card front, made entirely of pieces that might otherwise get thrown away. There is an artist named Klimt, whose works popped into my head when I started thinking about using the “scrap” pieces. I’m definitely going to try some “piecing” with the negative parts of my die cuts. I just love that your designers, who have so much more creative minds than mine, ? share their ideas. Thanks for the inspiration.

  • Alice Turak May 2, 2017 at 10:03 am

    Love these dies
I make books with themes of opposites and these would work well. I did one on why I love hats and why I hate hats.

  • Tina K May 2, 2017 at 10:01 am

The minute I saw your chevron background die my mind went to how I would use the negative pieces. I would line a number of them up with a bit of white space between each, to create an arrow image pointing to a focal point on my card or scrapbook page. I love that the negatives are of different sizes and will make for a visually interesting arrow!

  • Debbie Cooper May 2, 2017 at 9:59 am

    Wonderful, creative cards!

  • Linda Gordon May 2, 2017 at 9:56 am

Depending on the die cut, some I keep as stencils and some I use as an overlay on colored card stock or piece of scrapbook paper. I’m an admitted hoarder, but I do go thru and use my scraps and certainly get inspiration for new cards. Love the samples you showed!

  • SherylH May 2, 2017 at 9:55 am

I sometimes prefer the “negative” image” over the “positive/intended” image. I have used die cut scraps in the inlay technique and have also used the negative die as a template to align the positive image.

  • Carol Vanderbyl May 2, 2017 at 9:55 am

Beautiful samples. My favourite is using the negative with double stick background and ultra fine glitter from a solid cut die. There are so many new products ie oxide inks and pigment powders that compliment this method also. I also like to foil the pieces that come out of the die as embellishments. Do we ever throw anything away? I don’t think so. Finding it back is tricky sometimes though!

  • Linda Gordon May 2, 2017 at 9:54 am

Depending on the diecut, some I keep as stencils and some I use as an overlay on colored cardstock or piece of scrapbook paper. I’m an admitted hoarder, but I do go thru and use my scraps and certainly get inspiration for new cards. Love the samples you showed

  • Jan Thomas May 2, 2017 at 9:53 am

Lovely cards ladies. I often use the negative pieces for boarders to add dimension. Outlining with stickles makes them POP!

  • Sharon Hensen May 2, 2017 at 9:46 am

Wow! These are great. I would cut them out in all different colors and inlay the pieces into the frame for
a rainbow effect. You could also scatter the pieces on the front of a card to make a design or use the
smaller pieces in a shaker card. Possibilities are endless.

  • Sandra Heitman May 2, 2017 at 9:46 am

When I die cut all the extra little pieces go into a special box I use. Then when I go to make a new card the first stop is the scrap box. I’ve made some absolutely beautiful cards from my scrap box. In fact I made a Mother’s Day card yesterday from scraps. It turned out great. The cards on this blog are amazing. You have some wonderful designers on your team.

  • Jan Wold May 2, 2017 at 9:46 am

I love these cards! I often use the positive and the negative by using two different papers (positive in one color/print and negative in one color/print). I then nest the positive within the negative to provide contrast. The positive nests nicely or you can pop it up a bit with foam stickies. Such fun!

  • Chris K May 2, 2017 at 9:46 am

Your site is wonderful….I am new to die cutting and love getting inspiration from different craft sites. I do not like to waste anything so I had a thought to cut a larger negative, might also work with certain small ones, either in half down the middle or on the diagonal. Then put ,just slightly apart, over a designed paper that coordinates with the die image.

  • Monica Pacheco May 2, 2017 at 9:45 am

You could use the scrap pieces on cards, page layouts, in mini albums, on banners, as stencils or as a template.

  • Laura Holt May 2, 2017 at 9:43 am

    PS – Whoops! – “lavender-ish”.

  • Ivana Pekova May 2, 2017 at 9:43 am

I like the negative technique in combination with distress backgrounds.

  • Laura Holt May 2, 2017 at 9:41 am

    PS – Whoops – “lavender-ish” !

  • Laura Holt May 2, 2017 at 9:40 am

I like the idea of using positive and negative die cuts together, like the sample shown with the laverder-ish flower over the wood-grain background. Cards are my main focus and I have used the negatives as full card fronts, by planning ahead and die-cutting a large enough cardstock piece. Also that same idea works for book marks – no worry about a “positive piece” coming off!

  • Fay May 2, 2017 at 9:40 am

I often use the negative as I hate to throw anything away.

  • carol a smith May 2, 2017 at 9:35 am

I love using the negative space as a stencil, I don’t throw anything away, LOL I’m a boarder -line horder , LOL

  • Tricia Shirtata May 2, 2017 at 9:33 am

What a wonderful idea, using the negatives! I use the negatives from my dies to make shaker cards! Love the examples posted! They are so beautiful!!!

  • Liz Smith May 2, 2017 at 9:33 am

If you are using many cutouts of a small die, line them up as you cut them and make a strip. You can use it for a border or a band.
That’s my best use. Thanks for the contest.

  • Connie Sue Larson May 2, 2017 at 9:33 am

I love this technique and see how it makes the cards I make even more awesome!!!! I always appreciate the ideas you share so that I can take them and run with them using my own unique imagination.

  • Renee Knaus May 2, 2017 at 9:33 am

I love using negative space. I create a beautiful background (Oxides) and layer the negative on top. Love your cards! What great inspiration!

  • Carla Hundley May 2, 2017 at 9:32 am

    Love all these ways
    to use the negative
    parts. I would use a
    negative to frame a
    picture in a layout.
    Love the banner
    made from the
    negative.
    Carla from Utah

  • carol a smith May 2, 2017 at 9:32 am

making a stencil with the cut pieces is my favorite thing, but I don’t throw anything away…I’m a border-line hoarder . LOL

  • Margaret May 2, 2017 at 9:31 am

Negatives have such a lot of uses. One of my Christmas cards featured snowflakes and some of the negative pieces were teardrop in shape, perfect for dimensional rain on a spring card, especially since they were silver foil and glittery white………just perfect. I like the ideas from all of your design team.

  • Kay Childs May 2, 2017 at 9:26 am

I like to to use the negative diecuts as the foreground in a card and build the card around it. Love your cards, so inspirational.

  • Jeanette Fortin May 2, 2017 at 9:24 am

I love all the cards I use a lot of both from the cutting so many ways to do it

  • Gini Cagle May 2, 2017 at 9:24 am

Gorgeous samples! I like the idea of the negative cuts over a mixed media background or watercolor.

  • Pat Nesbitt May 2, 2017 at 9:23 am

Cutting scraps to put in the positive spaces in some of the background dies.
Save scraps by colors, Add buds of the flower color used with some of the flower dies.
BUT remember you cannot always save all the sawdust from your projects..
    Make a fire

  • Bernice Marion May 2, 2017 at 9:22 am

I would use die cut scraps on greeting cards. Beautiful cards! Thank you for a chance to win .

  • Marlene Bonetti May 2, 2017 at 9:20 am

    So many wonderful card ideas!
I use negative pieces from die cuts for shaker cards or as a embellishment on cards or layouts.

  • Susan Wareham May 2, 2017 at 9:18 am

Use the negative to make shaker cards, to help to align the positive to your project, use it as a stencil.

  • Nan Pedro May 2, 2017 at 9:18 am

I have been using scrap pieces for banners and with the items shown above I will get more creative using the negative pieces rather than throwing them away.
    Thanks for the ideas.

  • Dorothy May 2, 2017 at 9:18 am

To me the most obvious is to use the negative as a stencil. I also use them for shaker card elements. I hope that you will post the ideas the card makers say they do, so that we can have all the knowledge of wonderful women. Thank you for all that you do to help us be successful in our chosen craft.

  • Eileen R May 2, 2017 at 9:17 am

What great inspiration from your DT, I love using the negative space of a die cutout! Thank you for the opportunity to win such a fabulous prize package!

Leftover strips can be used as banners to stamp a saying on.

Use the negative piece for shaker cards, also using the negative to help align the positive to your project, using it as a stencil.

They can be used on Multi Media projects either cards or canvasses. If the pieces are big enough I use them to cut out tiny leaves etc . They can be cut up with a paper punch and used for confetti to add to a card for a “Surprise” for the recipient.

Really enjoy your technique ideas. Using the negative is a wonderful idea…..thanks

I use my die cut scrap papers and make quilt cards. I use my paper trimmer and cut the scraps into the shapes I need and lay them out in my favorite quilt pattern. Quilts always give a sense of warmth and caring.

I’ve used the negative circles for bubbles on a page with an aquatic theme. And on a card the positive areas were filled with words. Also use larger die cuts on shaker cards.

Die cuts or the negatives would be great on a scrapbook page involving a child’s playground or swingset

Gorgeous cards and ideas. I always keep the negatives and use them on other cards. I don’t know what is going on but I was opted out of the subscription emails and I can’t get it to re-subscribe

Beautiful cards!! Great inspiration! Little sparkly pieces from die cuts could be used in shaker cards. I have saved some, just haven’t found the time to try it yet!!

  • Marilyn Fordney May 2, 2017 at 9:10 am

Thank you for this suggestion. I will give it a try.

  • Sandi McFarland May 2, 2017 at 9:10 am

Such great ideas! I am looking forward to using these negative spaces more creatively!

  • Rebecca Williams May 2, 2017 at 9:10 am

What lovely cards! You get a beautiful inlay effect when you cut words from a base layer and then cut the word from a contrasting paper and lay in the base layer space. Of course save the pieces from the base for any loops in the word to use the base color for those. Such a neat look! This works with flowers, butterflies and shapes as well.

I always look at the left over paper after I cut something out and wish I could come up with a way to use it. You all have definitely given me some awesome ideas! So glad you didn’t ask me to pick a favorite! They are all amazing!

I use negative cuts for window cards.

  • Joanna Mackintosh May 2, 2017 at 9:07 am

You have such wonderful samples showing above, thanks so much for the great inspiration. You ask “What are some project ideas where you could use die cut scrap pieces when crafting?” – I love to use them mostly for card making but often incorporate them into my scrapbook layouts too. I recently made a pillow with some words on using die-cut felt and fabric, used the negative of the “&” in a block just for interest.

Beautiful cards featuring the negative die cuts! I love to use the negative part and inlay the die cut piece into the opening. Your challenge today gives me more ideas to use them on my cards!

  • Karen Eason May 2, 2017 at 8:29 am

I incorporate the “negative” die cut pieces into my cards, gift tags and Scrapbooking. You will be surprised how easy and creative you can be with incorporating them into my projects. I rarely have to toss them out.

  • Marty R May 2, 2017 at 8:27 am

Great background dies! It’s a challenge I like to give myself to come with a design using scarps now and then. It’s fun to see wha I can create with them

  • Patti McKay May 2, 2017 at 8:25 am

Beautiful cards, all!! I too, never throw any “leftovers”. You never know when inspiration will strike again!

    Beautiful projects everyone!

  • Sherry Norte May 2, 2017 at 8:15 am

I love these cards. Red is my favorite color they are very creative. I like to use the leftover throwaway sheets for die cuts.

  • Marianne May 2, 2017 at 8:11 am

Use your leftovers and negative pieces for overlays on cards. I keep scraps; your never know when you will need them.

  • Camilla Narayan May 2, 2017 at 8:03 am

Beautiful creations! I love to have my stash of scraps, especially when I’m looking for a specific color to match sentiments and also for adding small embellishments such as circles and stars to projects.

  • Theressa C. Hudspeth May 2, 2017 at 7:50 am

The cards are gorgeous! If I had to choose my favorite I’d have to choose Katlyns poppy!

I tried going to the blogs but was informed that the pages were not available.

  • Susan Green May 2, 2017 at 7:48 am

Never waste a scrap of paper, especially die cuts. I throw them in a box, and when I cannot think of an idea for a card, I take out that box of die cuts and start moving them around on a card base, and presto…..something appears out of no where to make a beautiful card.

  • Karen Hasheck May 2, 2017 at 7:39 am

Oh my- such gorgeous cards! I would use pieces on my cards of course, and also on scrapbook pages. I love to use them on the inside of the card to continue the theme from the front.
