Layered Gift Tag Set

July 20, 2017

Hello everyone, it’s Sanna Lippert here today to share with you a fun and easy to do layering technique. This idea occurred to me when I was using texture paste on another project and I realized that I could create a paste-like look without the paste by using only a series of dies. Here is what I did:

This is such an easy idea: Texture that looks like mixed media but is done with nothing more than cardstock and inks.

Step 1 – Spray store-bought white tags with an ink spray of your choice. Tip – Place into a ‘misting box’ (a cardboard box) and protect the work table so no over-spray gets on it! Optional: Die cut your own tags with an Elilzabeth Craft Designs ‘Tags & More’ die set. Air dry or heat set to speed the drying process.

Step 2 – Back white cardstock with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Sheet and die cut with a background die. Adhere the die cut background to the tag, trim away excess. Place the tags back into the misting box. Spray again with the same color(s) as the first layer.

Step 3 – Once the spray ink dries, add some negative leftover pieces onto the tags, return to the misting box and spray again.

Now that the background is done, it’s time to decorate the tags.

Step 4 – Accent the flowers with Liquid Pearls and adhesive-backed half-pearls.

Step 5 – Add some ink splatters to the background and a fussy cut, stamped sentiment to each tag.

Step 6 – Using the Bunch of Flowers 4 die set, cut flowers from White Soft Finish Cardstock. Color flowers to coordinate with tags. Add detail to the flowers with a white gel pen. Hand cut some simple almond-shaped burlap leaves. Adhere flowers and leaves to tags.

Step 7 – Add ribbons.

Even though there are lots of patters and layers on the tags, the monochromatic color scheme adds harmony. Keep this technique in mind when you don’t want to use stencils and stencil paste! Layered die cut pieces create a very similar effect.

I hope you have enjoyed this simple idea and will give it a try yourself!
Happy creating,

Sanna

Very pretty, love the texture and especially the flowers. Love the idea of using a white gel pen on the flowers.
