It’s The Little Things with a Hydrangea Hello!

March 7, 2018

Hi,

Kelly Booth here today with a card suitable for any occasion.  I’m quite fond of hydrangeas as I used to have them in my yard when I lived in Northern California. Here in Arizona they do not grow and it makes me sad. I love the realistic nature of the Susan’s Garden dies and am having lots of fun playing with them.

Here is the card I made for today’s tutorial.

Step 1 – Cut a piece of Whisper Blue Soft Finish Cardstock to 4″.25″ x 11″, score at 5.5″ and fold in half to create a top-fold card base. Set it aside.  Using White Soft Finish Cardstock texture side up, die cut a Dotted  Scallop Oval using the 2nd largest die from the set with a Fitted Oval in the center to create a frame. (Excuse my tape marks on the dies – they get a lot of use. Rub with a towel and some alcohol if yours get sticky and you want to clean them.)

Step 2 – Using the Garden Notes – Hydrangea 2 die set, cut the following from 100 lb White Soft Finish Cardstock (smooth side up): 4 stems, 6 leaves, and about 6 plates of the tiny flowers, 1 hello and one tiny lady bug. Cut ‘hello’ 3 times from green cardstock and one Dotted Scalloped Oval from blue watercolor pattern paper found in the Moda Scrap ‘Fly and Scrap’ Collection.

Step 3 – Color the stem pieces and leaves on both sides using markers of choice. Three shades of green were used here to get a good blend.

Step 4 – Using the molding mat, leaf pad, and tools shape the leaves and stems as Susan shows in her video HERE.

Step 5 – Apply glue to two of the stems as shown in Susan’s video and adhere the two together creating a stiffer dome shaped base on which to create the hydrangea heads. Pinch leaves with tweezers and shape them and add to the stems with a little glue.    Adhere the stems together and snip off the little point sticking out.

Step 6 – Adhere these to the Dotted Scalloped Oval patterned paper die cut.

Step 7 – Color and shape the tiny flowers on both sides and the ladybug. Susan demonstrates the techniques HERE

.

Step 8 – Use Kids Choice Glue to adhere the small florets to the domes, working from the outside of the dome toward the center.

Step 9 – After the hydrangea heads are covered to the fullness you want, adhere a single Ribbit Green Prill to the center of each floret using liquid glue. (Tip: Use tweezers to place the Prill.)

Step 10 – Adhere the three Hello’s in green together using some liquid glue, then add the white one on top. Adhere the white Dotted Scalloped Oval frame around the flowers on the pattern paper using  liquid glue. Put a spot of glue on a leaf and add the ladybug.  Adhere ‘Hello’ to the right of the stems as shown.

Step 11 – Place Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape on the back of the oval and adhere onto the Whisper Blue card base. Tie a bow with some thread or string and place a little bow at the base of the Hydrangea on the right. It’s the attention to detail that makes these flowers so special – the itty bitty ladybug, the single Prill on each floret, the time you take to color and shape each and every piece – it all makes a big difference.
