Happy Holidays Fireplace Christmas Card

October 20, 2017

Hey Crafters! Katelyn here, sharing with you today my Happy Holidays Fireplace Christmas Card. There are only 10 Mondays left until Christmas and it’s time for me to start creating my Christmas cards. I fell in love with Becky Seddon’s Hang the Christmas Stockings die and decided to make this the focal point of my card. The project really took shape when I combined different Christmas patterned papers from ModaScrap.

Let me show you below how to replicate it at home.

  1. Cut the following pieces from sheets in the Xmas Vintage Patterned Paper pack:
  • From the fly sheet, cut a piece that measures 5 3/4″ x 5 3/4″.
  • From the Dark Brown Polka Dot patterned paper, cut a piece that measures 5 1/2″ x 5 1/2″.
  • Cut the snowflake patterned paper down to 6″. With the paper cut, place the 5 1/4″ Stitched Square die onto the patterned paper piece and run it through your die cutting machine.

With all the pieces cut, distress the edges of each piece. Using a blending tool with foam and Vintage Photo Distress Ink, ink the edges of all three pieces.

2. Use the Hang the Christmas Stockings die for the next five steps. Die cut both fireplace pieces out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Blend Vintage Photo Distress Oxide Ink over the entire surface of the base of the fireplace using a blending tool with foam. Blend Walnut Stain Distress Oxide Ink over the entire surface of the outline of the fireplace using a blending tool with foam.

3. Die cut both fire images out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. With a blending tool and foam, blend Fossilized Amber Distress Oxide Ink on the bottom portion of each fire piece. Take the blending tool with a new piece of foam and blend Spiced Marmalade on the top portion of each fire piece. To finish off the pieces, ink the edges using Vintage Photo Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

4. Die cut the hearth for the fireplace out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Black Soot Distress Oxide Ink over the entire hearth.

5. Place the smaller round-toe stocking die onto a piece of patterned paper from the It’s Christmas Time patterned paper pack and cut it out. Die cut the open square pattern stocking overlay out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Ink the edges of the patterned paper stocking using Vintage Photo Distress Ink. Blend Peeled Paint Distress Oxide Ink over the entire surface of the open square stocking piece using a blending tool with foam.

6. Die cut the large stocking plus the ‘fur’ cuff, heel and toe accents out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Blend Fired Brick Distress Oxide Ink over the entire surface of the large stocking with a blending tool and foam. Ink the edges of the stocking using Vintage Photo Distress Ink. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Peeled Paint Distress Oxide Ink over the entire surface of the heel and toe pieces.

7. Place the pointy stocking die onto a piece of patterned paper from the White Christmas patterned paper pack and cut it out. Die cut the pointy cuff piece out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Ink the edges of the patterned paper stocking using Vintage Photo Distress Ink. Blend Peeled Paint Distress Oxide Ink over the entire surface of the cuff piece using a blending tool with foam.

8. Apply Walnut Stain Distress Oxide Ink to the “Happy Holidays!” sentiment and stamp it onto a piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Cut around the sentiment. Ink the edges of the sentiment using Vintage Photo Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

9. Cut a piece of white cardstock that measures 6″ x 12″. Score the piece of cardstock at 6″, fold in half to form the square card base.

10. Adhere the snowflake patterned paper to the dark brown polka dot patterned paper. Adhere the dark brown polka dot patterned paper to the cream paper.

11. Adhere the outline piece of the fireplace to the base fireplace.

12. Using foam squares, adhere the fireplace to the middle of the snowflake patterned paper.

13. Use foam squares to adhere the hearth to the bottom of the fireplace.

14. Adhere the two flame pieces, smaller one on top, centered on the hearth, using foam squares for dimension.

15. Adhere the accent elements to each stocking.

16. Before adhering the stockings to your fireplace, die cut the outline fireplace one more time out of Brown Soft Finish Cardstock. Adhere to the inset of the fireplace. ‘Hang’ the stockings at the top of the fireplace as shown. Use foam squares to adhere the Happy Holidays sentiment above the stockings and accent the  fireplace with a Transparent/Gold Glitter Dot peel-off on each side.

17. Adhere the card front to the card base.

Thanks for joining me today! I hope that I’ve inspired you to create your own version of my Happy Holidays Fireplace Christmas Card.
