Floral Happy Birthday To You by Frances Byrne

Hi everyone,

It’s Frances Byrne here and it’s my turn to post a tutorial for the Die Cut Design Team. I love the look of long narrow cards, even though I don’t make them often. I used the ModaScrap Happy Flowers die set to create a horizontal top-fold Floral Happy Birthday card.

Here’s how I created my card:

Step 1 –

  • Cut a piece of Lavender Soft Finish Cardstock that measures 8 1/2″ x 7″. Score along the 7 inch side at 3 1/2 inches, fold in half to create a 8 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ top-fold card base.
  • Cut a piece of Misty Mauve Soft Finish Cardstock that measures 8 1/4″ x 3 1/4″ Cut a piece of designer paper that measures 8″ x 3″.
  • Adhere both to the card base.

Step 2 –

  • Using the third smallest square from the Stitched Squares die set, die cut three squares from White Soft Finish Cardstock.
  • Using the third smallest square from the Dotted Scallop Squares die set, die cut three squares from Misty Mauve Soft Finish Cardstock.
  • Using the ModaScrap Happy Flowers die set, die cut four large skinny flowers from Dark Fuchsia Soft Finish Cardstock.
  • Using the small skinny flower die from the same set, die cut two flowers from Dark Fuchsia Soft Finish Cardstock.

Step 3 –

  • Layer the white stitched squares onto the colored dotted scallop squares.
  • Stamp the birthday sentiment from the Occasions Clear Stamp set to the center of one of the white squares.
  • Attach the square panels to the front of the card using foam tape to add dimension.

Step 4 –

  • Shape flowers slightly by using the ball stylus from the All Metal Tool Kit.
  • Assemble the flowers by layering two large flowers and one small flower, offsetting the flowers so the petals look lush and full. Use glue only in the center.
  • Adhere a flower to each of the two remaining squares.
  • Finish off the flowers by adding a half-pearl to the center of each one.

Step 5 – The inside of the card (optional):
  • Cut a piece of Misty Mauve Soft Finish Cardstock that measures 8 1/4″ x 3 1/4″.
  • Cut a piece of designer paper that measures 8″ x 3″.
  • Layer panels and adhere to the inside of the card.
  • Using the smallest rectangle from the Stitched Rectangles die set, die cut a piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Using black ink, stamp the sentiment from the Occasions Clear Stamps set, centered on this panel.
  • Using the second smallest rectangle from the Dotted Scallop Rectangles die set, die cut a rectangle from Misty Mauve Soft Finish cardstock.
  • Layer these small rectangles and adhere to the card as shown in the photo above.
Step 6 –
  • Die cut two small skinny flowers from the ModaScrap Happy Flowers die set using Dark Fuchsia Soft Finish Cardstock. Adhere at the upper left and lower right to complete the inside of the card. (Tip: Only a small dab of glue is needed at the center of the flower, even though these flowers are not shaped. Another option – Back the Dark Fuschia SFC with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape before cutting and no glue will be needed.)
Thank you for stopping by today. I hope you enjoyed my tutorial.
