A Way With Words

Eat Drink and Be Merry Frame-able Project

December 22, 2018

Merry Christmas everyone! It’s Suzanne here today with a project that you won’t want to give away!  This would be perfect in the doorway to the kitchen or in the dining room for all your holiday entertaining.

Here is how you can make it:

Instructions

  1. Die cut Eat Drink and the ampersand from red cardstock. Die cut Be Merry from gold cardstock.  Die cut two Sprigs from medium green cardstock and the fern from paler green cardstock.
  2. Lay out the words as shown in the photo on a piece of 8.5 x 11” black cardstock with enough space on the left to add the bow and foliage.  (Don’t be afraid of using black for Christmas.  It really makes the colours pop!)  Adhere the letters in place.  For tips on keeping your letters straight watch this one minute video tutorial!  Don’t be afraid to overlap the words, that’s what makes things cohesive in the layout!  If they’re too far apart, the message “falls apart”.  Trim the panel to 6.25” wide and 6” high, with the letters about 0.5” from the right edge.
  3. Adhere the Sprigs and Fern and add a few Glitter Dots to the frond.  Make a bow from festive ribbon.  Tie gold cord around the charm and add a few Glitter Dots on the knot. Add in some red cord for interest and adhere all over the Sprigs and Fern.
  4. Mat with the three colours of cardstock used in the project.  Each mat is about 1/8”larger than the previous.  Use one of the colours of cardstock as a background and cut to the same size as the frame. (Shown: A shadow box style frame.)
  5. Keep this (or it would make a fabulous gift!) for next Christmas and the one after and the one after, as it continues to spread good cheer to everyone who sees it! Or if you can part with it, give it as a gift. Or better yet, make several…

Merry Christmas and happy creating!  See you in the new year!
Suzanne

A shadow box frame like that is a great way to elevate a card and turn it into a piece of art, Suzanne. Don’t know if you have them in Canada, but Ikea stores in the US have wonderful shadow box frames and they’re very reasonably priced.
