Hi everyone,

It’s Frances here today with a new tutorial to share with you. I don’t know about you, but I am always looking for new ideas to use to create male themed cards. So this time round I am playing with the new Postage Stamp Squares and the Sports Charms to create a card for DAD! This card could be used for either Father’s Day or a Birthday.

Change the colors used on the card and this design can easily be converted to be suitable for ‘Mum’ or ‘Mom’ for Mother’s Day; ‘Boy’ for a Baby Boy card; ‘Joy’ for a Christmas Card etc.

Here’s how I created my card:

1. Cut a piece of Dusky Sky Soft Finish Cardstock that measures 5 1/2 inches x 11 inches. Score along the 11 inch side at 5 1/2 inches and fold to create a top-folding card.
Using the largest square from the Fitted Squares die set, die cut a square from Bonnie Blue Soft Finish Cardstock.
Using the second largest square from the Stitched Squares die set, die cut a square from Rich Black Soft Finish Cardstock.

  • Layer the two square panels together and then adhere these to the folded blue card.

2. Using the second smallest square from the Postage Stamp Squares die set, die cut 5 squares from Dusky Sky Soft Finish Cardstock and 4 squares from Bonnie Blue Soft Finish Cardstock.

  • Place foam tape to the back of the light blue squares and double sided adhesive tape to the back of the dark blue squares. (The photo above shows how the squares will alternate in height from base of card depending on which squares have foam tape on the back and which squares don’t.)

  • Adhere the small squares to the card starting with the light blue squares in the corner making sure to adhere to card so the squares are evenly spaced.

3. Using the Sports Charms die set die cut the following:

  • (6) Circle Charms from White Soft Finish Cardstock
  • (6) Soccer Detail die from Rich Black Soft Finish Cardstock that has Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape on the back.
  • Assemble Soccer Balls as per photo above and cut off the charm hanger from each of the white circles.
  • Place foam tape to the back of each soccer ball and adhere to each of the squares on the top and bottom rows of the front of the card.
4. Using the smallest circle from the Stitched Circles die set, die cut 3 circles from White Soft Finish Cardstock.
  • Place a piece of Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape to the back of a scrap of Rich Black Soft Finish Cardstock.
  • Using the Alphabet 1 – Caps die set die cut the letters: D A D
  • Adhere each letter to one of the small stitched circles and attach to the centre row of squares on front of the card.

5. The Inside of the card:
  • Using the second smallest square from the Postage Stamp Squares die set, die cut 3 squares from Dusky Sky Soft Finish Cardstock and 2 squares from Bonnie Blue Soft Finish Cardstock.
  • Counting from the centre die, die cut the fifth square from the Postage Stamp Squares die set from Bonnie Blue Soft Finish Cardstock.
  • Counting from the centre die, die cut the third square from the Stitched Squares die set from White Soft Finish Cardstock.
  • Layer the white square to the larger postage stamp square. Using the “You’re the Best” sentiment from the General Sentiments Clear Stamp set, stamp onto the centre of the white square with black ink.
  • Adhere the larger square to the upper left hand side of the card referring to card above for placement.
  • Referring to the photo above, place the remaining small squares along the bottom edge and the right side of the large square so that they are evenly spaced.
6. Using the Sports Charms die set die cut the following:
  • (3) Circle Charms from White Soft Finish Cardstock
  • (3) Soccer Detail die from Rich Black Soft Finish Cardstock which has Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape on the back.
  • Assemble Soccer Balls as per photo above and cut off the charm hanger from each of the white circles.
  • Adhere the Soccer Balls to the three light blue postage squares on card.

Hi Erin, I agree about it being more difficult making male themed cards than female ones :). Craft Giraffe in Australia carries all Elizabeth Craft Designs products including the Soft Finish Cardstock and the new glitter colors. I heard they just received a brand new order which includes Josets and A Way with Words newest release dies too. http://www.craftgiraffe.com.au
