Are they ornaments or are they tags? They’re both! Either way, this is a super fast project: Place Christmas Elves peel-offs onto white cardstock and color them with your favorite markers. Cut around the edges. Thread a needle with fine gold braid and add a hanging loop. I was done in half an hour.
But then there was that wonderful sheet of leftovers sitting there, tempting me to figure out what to do with all of the circles, small stars, and other bits and pieces.
The negative shapes from the trees looked like people’s bodies; the circles would make perfect heads. I still had plenty of white cardstock in front of me so I started to play!
And I kept going, and going, like the Energizer Bunny… Before I knew it I had a nice array of bizarre imaginary figures in front of me. I had left enough room between them to cut them out, each in its own rectangle.
They’re the right size for Artist Trading Cards, I can use them for silly cards, or just tuck them away to remind me of a fun time I had one chilly fall day. At this point I’m going to use mini clothespins to hang them from a piece of twine like a banner, evidence that leftovers from peel-off sheets can take on a life of their own!

What a great idea! I love the leftover figures!! Thank you for sharing! Would be so fun to see what figures other people would come up with. I bet we could make hundreds – if not thousands – of different looking ones!
I think the tags/ornaments are great, but I am particularly enamored with the creativity shown by your use of the leftovers. Talk about “thinking outside the box” Judi! Thanks for sharing your great ideas.
Wow Judi! Your creativity just amazes me!
So creative, love what you’ve created withe the leftovers!
Totally crazy – but so much fun!!!!
Thank you, Clare. It all started with the little tree shapes. The smallest characters came first and they got larger and more eccentric as I started using the larger scraps, the ones that are very odd shapes!
I love these and my grands would love making these for their tree! How creative:-D
Thanks, Susan. I really like knowing this project will be in lots of little hands.
OK, now that is just so clever and fun. I’m saving this for my annual before Christmas craft day with my grands. They will have a blast playing with the leftover pieces, I can’t wait to see what they come up with.
If they’re little grands, give them a pen so they can draw added details and don’t have to try to move the little dots for the eyes (they’re the size of poppyseeds!)
Brilliant!!!
Thank you, Joni! Give it a try – it’s so much fun.
