A Way With Words

Black-Eyed Susan Cluster in a Crate

November 15, 2017

Hello to all

It’s Anita here to take you on a stroll in Susan’s Garden. It’s blooming flowers everywhere and it’s all the more amazing because now you can make them using the dies available at the Elizabeth Craft Designs.

Today, I am showing you a trio of vibrant Black Eyed Susans in a wooden fruit crate.

All the dies are now available at the ECD web store.  Susan has posted many videos showing how to create the flowers in her collection on her  Facebook page. (She’s been doing a Facebook Live tutorial each week and will be taking a break during the holidays, but they all remain in the archive.) Don’t miss them!

Follow the steps below to make this card:

Step 1 –

Cut a white card stock square to 5″ x 5″ and distress using Distress Oxide inks – Vintage Photo and Wild Honey used here.

Step 2 –

Using the A Way with Stencils – Leaf/Snowflake stencil, create a background on the cardstock by sponging the leaves with Vintage Photo Distress Oxide.

Sep 3 –

Using a scoring board, add some texture to the background by scoring randomly-spaced horizontal and vertical lines.

Step 4 –

Cut a square frame by using two of the square dies from the Stitched Squares die set. Note that the opening in the frame  is cut so it is off-center (refer to photo above).  Adhere the frame to the card using foam tape.

Step 5 –

Die cut the Wooden Fruit Crate from brown cardstock and adhere toward the bottom left side of the frame.

Step 6 –

Create the floral bouquet to place in the crate by die cutting the following:

  • Black-Eyed Susan (enough pieces for three flowers, plus leaves)
  • Maidenhair Fern
  • Ostrich Fern
  • Berry Branch
  • Ivy Vine

Color, shape, and assemble flowers and leaves. Arrange in the crate referring to photo above for placement.

Add Black Prills to the centers of flowers.

Add Green Nuvo Drops to the berries.

Layer panel onto a 5 1/2 inch square top-fold card base, positioned off-center toward the bottom right as shown in project photo.

Add sentiment in two pieces, each one bordered with a darker color cardstock. (Stamp from Sentiments 1 – Celebrations Clear Stamp set.)
