A Way With Words Soft Finish Cardstock

A Friendship Card with a Pretty Geranium

April 13, 2018

Hi, It’s Kelly Booth with you today.  I often need a friendship card or a generic card to send to a friend. Using Suzanne Cannon’s A Way With Words and a simple flower by Susan Tierney Cockburn are the perfect combination for this!  For my tutorial I chose the Friends word die and Susan’s Geranium.

Step 1 – Cut the geranium flower parts from 100lb White Soft Finish Cardstock, smooth side up. You will need to cut 4 leaves, the small petals two times and the large petals three times along with the bud petals, stems, and flower base twice. The photo below shows the cut pieces (some not yet removed from the surrounding cardstock).

Step 2 – Color both front and back of all pieces with alcohol markers and begin shaping as Susan shows in her video HERE. Below are photos of the process. After the flower is finished adhere some Coral Prills to the center of the florets using a tiny dot of Kids Choice Glue. (Apply glue with a toothpick.)

Step 3 – To create the card you will need the following pieces: 3 Friends cut from 100lb White Soft Finish Cardstock, 1 piece of  coral cardstock 5″x 1/2″ by 8″ x 1/2″ scored in the center to create the top fold card base, 1 Frame cut using Stitched Rectangles and Fitted Rectangles die sets, a  piece of  green dotted patterned paper from the ModaScrap Thinking About Polinesia Patterned Paper pack cut with the large Stitched Rectangle die used for the frame.

Step 4 – Use Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape to adhere the patterned paper to the card base, centered. Use foam tape to adhere the frame on top of the patterned paper.

Step 5 – Adhere the three die cut word ‘Friends’ in a stack using liquid adhesive to hold the pieces. Add this dimensional word above center inside the frame.

Step 6 – Adhere the geranium and leaves at the lower right corner.

Step 7 – Last but not least, die cut a ladybug from the Bugs and Butterflies set out of White Soft Finish Cardstock, color it red, add the line for the wings and the dots on the wings with an extra fine nib black marker. Shape the ladybug’s body by turning it upside down on the foam mat and cupping it with a stylus tool. Glue the ladybug to one of the geranium leaves. Optional: Use Nuvo Crystal Drops or Glossy Accents tp add a little gloss to the ladybug. Set the card aside to dry.

Your card is now finished!  I hope you have enjoyed the tutorial. I really love seeing Susan Tierney-Cockburn’s flowers come alive.  Thank you for stopping by the Elizabeth Craft Designs Blog and have a super day!

Kelly, I love this. Now I am so sorry that I did not take advantage of buying this when Els did the 25% off. I love it. I got an email today saying she had to reimburse me because they are out of stock which saddens me as I would have ordered something else to take advantage of the 25%. Oh well, I am sure she will do it again. But I am going to keep this tutorial. This is just lovely… I love the colors and I love this tutorial. I hope you keep this going because although I love Susan’s video’s on Wednesday I also love this format. You can tell I am obsessed… Ha Ha…
