Hi friends, it’s Sandy Diller here with you today to share a great new die just released by Els van de Burgt Studio. There are three new backgrounds in this release and they are all fabulous but I have chosen just one, the Circle Background #1262, as my focus for these cards.
I began by creating all the backgrounds first and then adding the embellishments. I will take you through each card step by step. It is fast and easy.
These cards are all slightly larger than an A2 (4.25″ X 5.5″) so you will need to use an A6 (4.5″ X 6.25″) envelope and they will still mail with one single stamp.
The Circle Background cuts a panel that is 4″ X 5.25″, each additional panel needs to be .25″ larger.
1. Using Soft Finish Cardstock (SFC) – Perfect Pink, cut one Circle Background.
2. Using SFC – Dark Fuchsia, cut one panel that is .25″ larger and glue together leaving a small border all around.
3. Using SFC – White, cut one card base that is .25″ larger and glue together leaving a small border all around.
4. Using Dotted Scallop Ovals, cut 3 ovals – 2 white and 1 pink; layer as shown.
5. Using the “Miss You” stamp from the General Clear Stamps – stamp top layer.
6. Add a flower or any other low-relief embellishment of your choice. This came from my stash.
1. Using SFC – White, cut one Circle Background.
2. Using SFC – Misty Mauve, cut one panel that is .25″ larger and glue together leaving a small border all around.
3. Save only the stitched sections of the background die and then glue back in place.
4. Using SFC – White, cut one band that is 1″ wide to go across front of card.
5. Green ribbon was used here for second band. You could also use paper.
6. Using the Thank You die, cut once from Misty Mauve. Add ribbon to paper panel then add “Thank You” and attach to card front.
7. Embellish as desired.
8. Using SFC – Spring Green, cut one card base that is .25″ larger and glue together leaving a small border all around. This one is a top fold.
1. This time the background will not be cut out, instead it will be embossed using the correct embossing sandwich for your machine.
2. Using SFC – Dusky Blue, cut panel slightly larger than die, place die on blue (right side) of paper. Using the embossing sandwich -run through machine. Trim off excess.
3. Using SFC – Whisper Blue, cut one panel that is .25″ larger and glue together leaving a small border all around.
4. Using SFC – White, cut one card base that is .25″ larger and glue together leaving a small border all around.
5. Using fun foam – white, cut “Let it Snow” and three snowflakes from the Entwined Ovals. Add to card front.
Optional for this card – Warm Diamond Soft Microfine Glitter was added to words and snowflakes first by placing Clear Double Sided Adhesive on front of foam before cutting.
1. Using SFC – Dusky Blue, cut panel slightly larger than die. Once again the front is going to be embossed except that the die will be placed on the back side of the paper instead of the front. Using the embossing sandwich, run through machine. Do not remove paper from die yet.
2. While paper is still in die, lightly sand the blue panel revealing the beautiful pattern. After sanding, remove from die and trim off excess.
3. Tie ribbon around blue panel.
4. Using SFC – White, cut one panel that is .25″ larger and glue together leaving a small border all around.
5. Using Navy cardstock, cut one card base that is .25″ larger and glue together leaving a small border all around.
6. Using Stitched Circles, cut one white and one blue circle.
7. Using the “Thinking of You” stamp from the General Clear Stamps – stamp top layer.
8. Add Circles to card using pop dots or dimensional tape.
Happy Card Making,
Sandy

I am noticing that a lot of background dies are just a tad bigger than the standard card size. Why is this ? I am disappointed by this.
our background dies are 4 inches x 5 1/4 inches which is slightly smaller than a standard A2 card. Sandy’s cards are slightly larger as she has added an additional mat under her background.
Thanks for sharing these techniques – love the new background dies!
really nice ideas and pretty cards!!!
Sandy, these cards are really great. I also appreciate the tutorial, These new dies look like a lot of fun. And to Erin: yes all of the colored soft finish cardstock has a white back and core. Sandy has shown one of the reasons this paper is so great with her sanding technique but the other thing that is great about this cardstock is when you fold your card (color on the outside and white inside) you can stamp a sentiment on the white inside. Before I found ECD I would have to die cut a piece of white paper and stamp the sentiment and glue it to the inside of the card. Especially if the color was dark.
Thanks do you know where to get the cardstock online but in Australia? I only know of ECD store directly – the die I’ve found in lots of places!
I really love these cards – do all of the soft finish cardstock have the white core? I love the sanded one it makes the circle pattern really show up well
Hi Erin, Kathleen was so kind as to reply to your question but just in case, yes all the Soft Finish Cardstock
has a white core. So great for card making.
S@ndy, all of the cards are beautiful but I love the contrasts in the second one, it shows up those stitched edges so beautifully. It has been great having Els on TV shows over here in the UK with her wonderful dies. Anne x
They look great die cut or embossed!
Cut, embossed, or debossed…this die is great for all functions, and these cards certainly showcase so many of the possibilities. Love them all and this great tutorial.
