Hi, it’s Sandy Diller here with you and I have a fun project that could be used as a gift. I like taking a small gift to the hostess of a dinner party and this is just perfect for that. The pocket is the right size to hold a couple of handmade note cards with envelopes. This is a double tutorial today showing you how I made both the pocket and cards.
Here’s how it goes together – let’s start with the pocket
- Using White Soft Finish Cardstock – cut 1 Leaf Pocket.
2. The die already has a crease line (shown by black arrows). To add depth to the pocket, score an additional crease line that is 1/4″ from the outer edge (shown with the white arrows).
3. On the back side, as shown in the photo above step 2, place narrow strips of Clear Double Sided Tape around the edge, not crossing the score lines that were just added.
4. On the front, add color by gently rubbing Distress Ink on paper using a blending tool. Set aside. Stormy Sky, Peeled Paint and Carved Pumpkin were used here.
5. Cut one piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock that measures 4.75″ X 8″.
6. Make a pencil mark in the center of cardstock that is 1.75″ from the top. This will be erased later so make it light.
7. Using the Stitched Circles die – place the die at top of panel so it makes a rounded top edge.
8. Place panel and die on cutting pad. A low tack tape can be used to hold in the die in place. Line up second cutting pad on the pencil mark with the larger portion of the pad off the multipurpose platform as shown above. The desired result is that the die cuts ONLY where the two pads overlap making a rounded top.
9. Run through die cutting machine.
10. It may be necessary to make a small snip on the sides to disconnect the two pieces.
11. Erase pencil mark.
12. Color panel using the same colors that were used for the front.
13. Remove tape liner and attach pocket to back panel as shown above.
14. Trim corner if desired. Another full panel of white can be added to the back if desired, covering the colored flaps. (Not shown.)
Now for the cards.
Finished card size is 5.5″ X 4.25″.
15. Using Ready to Bloom and Lacy Poppies dies all pieces shown above from craft foam. (Any color.)
16. Attach to clear backing (packaging was used here) or temporarily mount on an acrylic block that has low-tack double-sided tape on it. Your dies have now been used to make foam stamps!
17. Ink the new stamps generously with VersaMark Ink and stamp on White Soft Finish Cardstock. This will be very difficult to see, but will appear shiny when held to the light.
18. Cover with clear embossing powder and tap off excess powder and return it to the jar. Heat set. The embossed image will now act as a resist.
19. Add color as before over the stamped image and then polish with a soft cloth or tissue to remove excess ink.
20. Using Whisper Blue Soft Finish Cardstock, cut card base 5.5″ X 8.5″, crease in center making card 5.5″ X 4.25″.
21. Using the Stitched Rectangle dies – trim colored panel and then cut one larger rectangle from white.
22. Layer panels on blue base.
Hopefully you will give this a try. It’s a good way to get more than one use from your dies by making stamps with them.
Have a crafty weekend,
Sandy
