Bird Cage with Nasturtiums and Berry Branches

November 13, 2018

Hello Crafty Friends!  Christine here today with a project featuring Susan’s new Garden Notes Nasturtiums die set.  I have had the bird cage for a while and have been wanting to do a project with it so when the nasturtium set came out I knew that it was perfect for the bird cage, purchased at a craft store.

Here is how it was created:

Step 1  From brown cardstock cut 6 Garden Notes Berry Spray. Using Kids Choice Glue to adhere the layers, stack sprays so you have 3 sturdy, thick sprays.  Using Nuvo Crystal Drops – Violet Galaxy add berries. Set aside to dry. Repeat for the back side of the berries so they are rounded/3D.

Step 2  Die cut 60 flowers from White Soft Finish Cardstock (or 36 if doing the draping only on the front) using Garden Notes Nasturtiums.  Cut leaves from green cardstock.  (Optional: Cut leaves from white and hand-color.)

Step 3  Using alcohol markers, color all flower petals front and back. (shown: Copic Sketch R59, YR18, Y19, Yr09.)  Used the colors to make different combinations. Shape and assemble all flowers using Garden Notes Molding Mat and 4 pc All Metal Tool Kit shape all your petals.  Review Susan Tierney-Cockburn’s video tutorial  here.

Step 4  Shape leaves using the Garden Notes Leaf Pad along with 4 pc All Metal Tool Kit. Draw vein lines with white Gelly Roll pen.

Step 5  Wrap 18″ floral stem around top knob of bird cage. Twist to secure. Repeat with five more stems.   Bend and adjust, cutting the lengths as needed. Adhere the leaves with Kids Choice Glue.  Add flowers. (Hold elements in place with your hand or low-tack tape till the glue sets.) Refer to the photo for placement. Add die cut berry sprays, cut into pieces as needed, continue adding leaves. Add coordinating ribbon to the knob.

Step 6   Add battery-operated candle inside the cage. (Safety reminder: Do NOT use a wick-and-wax candle!)

Hoping that this tutorial has been an inspiration to everyone and you will create your ofn ersion.

Until next time – Happy Crafting!

Christine
