Krista Schneider Soft Finish Cardstock

Stripes Background and Simple Masking

August 16, 2018

Hello! Samantha here – Today I’m sharing a card I created that came about simply by stamping a background stamp. I tend not to use pattern paper as much as I used to, but I do love a good versatile background stamp. Elizabeth Craft Designs have a few background stamps that I have used (a few times now) to create my own patterned paper. Once I had stamped my background the idea developed to use a masking technique to create ink blended features using Birthday Sentiments and the co-ordinating Labels 1 Die.

Card Instructions:

Step 1: On White Soft Finish Cardstock stamp the Stripes Background stamp using light grey ink.

Step 2: Die cut the four labels from the Labels 1 die set from White Soft Finish Cardstock.

Step 3: Mask off an area on the die-cut label and use a blending tool to apply ink to the masked off area.

Step 4: Repeat Step 3 with the remaining three labels – blending different choices of ink colours.

Step 5: Using black ink, stamp the sentiments from the Birthday Sentiments Clear Stamp set that co-ordinate with the die cut labels.

Step 6: Assemble Card – Adhere stamped labels to card front, embellish with enamel dots and a twine bow. Add a machine stitched border (optional). Adhere card front to a 5 x 7 inch card base.

Note: This Stripe Background stamp is 6 x 6 inch in size but because of the versatile design I was able to repeat stamp the background next to each other and create a larger sized card!

Background stamps like this one are so versatile – my card is a simple example of one way to create with this background stamps. If you wanted to you could colour each line in or try the same masking off technique to colour an additional fun geometric pattern within the striped background.

Happy Crafting!

Samantha
