Mistletoe Place Settings

10-burlap-holiday-table-settings-with-mistletoe-by-annette-green-1Hello everyone, Annette Green here from the Susan’s Garden Club Design Team. I’m hosting a holiday brunch in December and thought it would be nice for my guests to have a special, handmade place setting to take home after the meal. I used the new Mistletoe die as a decorative element on my festive red burlap bags. Here’s how easy these were to make…

1. Purchase or sew small burlap bags.

2. Put Clear Double Sided Adhesive Sheet onto the back of a piece of Olive Twist Soft Finish Cardstock, then die-cut the mistletoe. Double-sided adhesive makes easy work of adding the mistletoe to the burlap bag, no fussing with wet glue on all those little leaves and stems.

3. Sponge green ink onto the outer edges of the mistletoe stems and some of the leaves to create the look of dimension.

4. Peel the release sheet from the back of the mistletoe and position the inked piece onto the burlap bags as shown in the photo above. (Elizabeth Craft Designs’ Clear Double Sided Adhesive sheets and tapes have a nice, strong sticky hold.)

5. Using the same cardstock and Mistletoe die, cut six additional mistletoe leaves for each bag; score a vein line down the center of each with the leaf tool.

6. Use reverse tweezers to shape the leaves by pinching and squeezing at the vein line.

7. Before adhering the leaves, I suggest sliding some waxed paper inside the burlap bag to catch any glue that might ooze through the holes in the fabric. Use a thick fabric glue like Beacon’s Fabri-Tac to adhere the six extra leaves in place.

8. Die cut the circles from White Soft Finish Cardstock. Place them on a gum eraser or firm artist’s eraser and press into each with the medium ball stylus to “cup” each circle as shown. I did a total of 12, six 2-sided berries for each bag, but you can do as many berries as desired.

9. Adhere six of the circles in place with the cupped area facing up.

10. Adhere the other six circles over the previously-placed circles, this time with the cupped area facing down. This creates 3-dimensional berries.

11. For added interest and sparkle, you can sprinkle some glitter on the berries, or use a shimmery marker like I did.

12. From plaid patterned paper die cut the bow from the Mistletoe set, Snip away the top loop as shown.

13. Lay the bow face down on the molding pad and use the large ball stylus to stir and shape the bow for added dimension.

14. Lay the bow face up, and do the same on the tails of the bow with the large ball stylus.

15. Adhere the bow in place with thick fabric glue and set aside to dry. Remove the wax paper mid-way through the drying process.

Repeat the steps to make as many place settings as you need. You can also use these for gift cards, candy, cookies, or a small gift during the holidays.
