Birthday Boy

June 23, 2017

Happy Friday!  It’s Karen here with a fun birthday card I made for the son of one of my friends.  Boy cards are tough for me, but I think the combination of the Color of Puppies and Boy papers along with the Zoo Babies stamps was perfect. In my post today, I’ll give you a little tip on dealing with smaller pieces of scrap paper, too.

Zoo Babies Panda Baby Card

June 12, 2017
Zoo Babies Panda Baby Card

Hi everyone,

It’s Frances here and it is my turn to post a tutorial for the Coloring Design Team. Today I am playing with the Krista Schneider Zoo Babies stamp set and coordinating dies to create a baby card. For some reason I seem to be making girl baby cards lately, but this card could easily be changed to suit a boy just by changing the colors of patterned papers used.

Zoo Babies Panda Baby Card

Here is how I created my card:

Step 1 –

  • Cut a piece of pale pink cardstock so it measures 4 1/4 inches x 11 inches. Score and fold at 5 1/2 inches to create a top folding card.
  • Use the second largest rectangle from the Stitched Rectangles die set to cut a rectangle from dark pink cardstock.
  • Use the second largest rectangle from the Fitted Rectangles die set to cut a rectangle from designer paper (from ModaScrap Sweet Vintage Rose Patterned Paper Pack).
  • Cut a piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock that measures 3 3/4 inches x 3 inches
  • Cut a piece of dark pink cardstock that measures 3 3/4 inches x 3 1/4 inches.
  • Layer all pieces onto the folded card using photo above as a guide.

Step 2 –

  • Use the third smallest square from the Stitched Squares die set and die cut a square from designer paper.
  • Use the fourth smallest square from the Dotted Scallop Squares die set and die cut a square from dark pink cardstock.
  • Use a trimmer to cut the square in half diagonally (see photo above).
  • Adhere one half of the square to the left hand side of the card using foam tape. (refer to photo below).

Step 3 –

  • Using the Zoo Babies Clear Stamp set, stamp out the bear; present and single flower onto White Soft Finish Cardstock using black ink.
  • Use coordinating dies to die cut each image and adhere to card using foam tape for the bear and present.
  • Decorate the edges of the white rectangle and the half square panel using Glitter Borders Peel-Off Stickers.

Step 4 –

  • Stamp a sentiment from the Baby Clear Stamp set to the lower right hand corner of card using black ink.

Step 5 – The Inside of Card:

  • Use the second largest rectangle from the Stitched Rectangles die set to cut a rectangle from dark pink cardstock.
  • Use the second largest rectangle from the Fitted Rectangles die set to cut a rectangle from designer paper (from ModaScrap Sweet Vintage Rose Patterned Paper Pack).
  • Cut a piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock that measures 3 3/4 inches x 3 inches
  • Cut a piece of dark pink cardstock that measures 3 3/4 inches x 3 1/4 inches.
  • Layer all pieces together and adhere to the inside of the card using photo above as a guide.

Step 6 –

  • Use the remaining half of the square we cut in half in step 2 to adhere to the left hand side of card.

Step 7 –

  • Stamp the “Baby” and “Girl” sentiments from the Baby Clear Stamp set to the white panel.
  • Color the ‘Baby” sentiment as desired.
  • Stamp the trio flowers from the Zoo Babies Clear Stamp set to the top and bottom right hand corner of white panel.

Thank you for  stopping by today, I hope you enjoyed my tutorial.

Coloring Design Team Designer Challenge – January

January 24, 2017

Hi everyone,

As mentioned a couple of weeks ago, we are excited to be bringing back the Elizabeth Craft Designs Designer Challenges. Two weeks ago we had our first challenge for the Die Cut Design Team and this time round it is the Coloring Design Team’s turn to play!

Starting in February our challenges will be held on the first Tuesday of the month for the Die Cut Design Team and the third Tuesday of the month for the Coloring Design Team.

For our January Coloring Designer Challenge the challenge is … Cute Critters. The design team are to include one or more critters on their cards or projects.

The new Stamps by Krista line of stamps by Designer Krista Schneider has 11 stamp sets that include a critter of some type that the Design Team can use for the challenge.

Let’s take a look at what our Coloring Design Team created ….

First up today Kelly Booth has created this colorful card, duplicating the colors of the rainbow on the monkey’s shirt. For her card Kelly used White Soft Finish Cardstock that she decorated using Jungle Cuties Stamp set with coordinating dies, Dream Sentiments Clear Stamps, and the new Smile sentiment die.

Love the rainbow of colors on the leaves on the card created by Elena Anderson. Elena has also used the monkey from the Jungle Cuties Stamp set and the coordinating dies. Elena is ‘Wishing You a Colorful Day’ using the sentiment from the General sentiment Stamp set. Elena has also used Soft Finish Cardstock to create her card.

Anita Kejriwal has created this fun scene using the Jungle Cuties Stamp set and coordinating dies. You can see how Anita stamped some of the leaves on White Soft Finish Cardstock and die cut them using the coordinating dies and then used the same die to cut more from green card. Such a fun way to use the dies. The cute rabbit, mushroom and flowers along the bottom of the card are from the Woodland Pals Stamp set. To create the grassy hills Anita used the Fitted Frames 4 – Curvy Ovals. The ‘Hello’ sentiment used here is from the General Sentiments Stamp set.

Karen Nofziger has created this ‘tweet’ birthday (or Bird-day) card using the Bird-day Party Stamp set and coordinating dies. Karen also used the Stitched Circles die set and Fitted Frames 5 – Lace Circles to decorate her card.

Creating scenes is so much easier when you have coordinating dies to die cut your images as shown on this adorable card created by Selma Stevenson.  For her card Selma used the Woodland Pals Stamp set with coordinating dies. To help complete her scene Selma also used the Susan’s Garden Earth & Sky Stencil and the Rainbow Sky die set.

Frances Byrne created a fun baby boy card using the Zoo Babies and Jungle Cuties Stamp sets with coordinating dies. After die cutting the images, Frances added them to an accordion card she made using the Gift Card Accordion and Oval Landscape Accordion die sets. Frances also used the new A Way With Words Baby Love die set and the word “Boy” from the Baby Clear Stamp Set.

Tina Guigui Dornbaum has created a fun scene on her card using the Birch Forest Stamp set with coordinating dies and Soft Finish Cardstock. Tina also used the Fitted Rectangles and Dotted Scallop Rectangles to create the frame on her card. The sentiment is from the General Sentiments stamp set.

Our final card for our challenge this month has been created by Melanie Smith. Melanie used the Woodland Pals stamp set. She added clouds to her card using the Oval Clouds Frame Edges die set. For the layers of the card Melanie die cut cardstock and designer papers using various sizes of rectangles from the Stitched Rectangles die set. To finish off her card, she added the Smile sentiment to the top left corner.

Thank you for visiting our blog today. We hope you enjoyed seeing all the wonderful creations our Coloring Design Team created this month and that they have inspired you to create your own “critter” projects. Don’t forget to visit our designers’ blogs by clicking on their names to find out more about each project.

Happy Crafting!
