Hydrangea Birthday Card

June 13, 2016

Card Front

Mary here to share a card with a lot of dimension. The hydrangea flowers are on dome shaped platforms to pop them up; the shaped petals make them look more realistic. I coated the sentiment with puff paint, then mounted it on a popped up label. I added texture to the paper using clear embossing powder. I also added subtle designs to the label with glitter embossing powder through a Stage It Stencil. Note: the flowers on the card may not exactly match those found in nature.

Pop it Ups Wednesday with Kelly – Lorna Label Pop Up with a Bluebird!

November 25, 2015

Hi, It’s Kelly Booth and I have a birthday card tutorial today using the Lorna Label Pop it Ups die by Karen Burniston and a great Bluebird stamp created by Petroschi Designs by Bianca.

Here’s the front of this top-fold A2 card:

And the inside:

Here are the pieces required for this card:

  • 2 –  4 1/2″ by 11″ pieces of Soft Finish cardstock scored at 5 1/2″ to make top-fold cards.
  • 1 –  4″ x 5 1/2″ piece of spotted blue patterned paper or make your own by coloring the paper with Copic markers and using Copic blending fluid on a paintbrush and lightly touching the card stock to make droplets.
  • 1 –  4″ x 5 1/2″ piece of white Soft Finish cardstock
  • 4  – blue die cut “Celebrate” words backed with transparent Double Sided Adhesive (keep the negatives)
  • 1 –  white die cut “Celebrate” word backed with Transparent Double Sided Adhesive.
  • 1 –  blue large stitched Lorna Label die cut from the leftovers of the spotted blue paper.
  • 1 –  white small Lorna Label decorator die with the sentiment stamped or hand written in black.
  • 1 –  4″ x 5″ light blue cardstock

Directions:

  1. Stamp the Bluebird in the center of the single panel of Soft Finish cardstock and color with markers of your choice.
  2. From the panel of blue spotted paper die cut an Oval Accordion page and snip out the center and side tab to leave just an oval frame. Adhere the frame around the stamped bird and then trim a small amount from all four sides to leave a white shadow when attached with pop dots to the front of one of the top fold cards.
  3. Remove the adhesive liner from the backs of the light blue Celebrate die cuts and begin adhering them in a stack at the bottom of the oval on the card front, placing the negative pieces into the letters for each layer. Remove the negative pieces from the white Celebrate and place it on top of the stack.
  4. Switching to the other white card, center the Lorna Label die over the fold of the card and die cut. Work the scored lines and fold according to the package instructions. Adhere the pop-up card inside the backing card, making sure to avoid the pop-up areas with adhesive and working one side at a time.
  5. From the remaining oval of spotted blue paper, die cut the large stitched Lorna label and adhere it centered on the pop-up label. Keep the scraps of spotted blue paper.
  6. Use pop dots or foam tape to adhere the small stamped Lorna Label in the center of the blue label.
  7. From the 4″ x 5″ panel of light blue cardstock die cut a Gift Card Accordion panel and snip away all of the tabs to isolate just the slotted rectangle to hold a gift card. Adhere it to the inside of the card, making sure not to use adhesive under the tabs that will hold the gift card.
  8. From the scraps of light blue cardstock and spotted blue paper, die cut 7 hearts using Poppy the Owl’s little heart. Add two hearts to the front of the card and the remaining five hearts to the bottom pop-up platform inside the card as shown in the photo.

Your card is now finished! I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial and it has inspired you to give it a try. Thank you for stopping by the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog and have a wonderful day!

‘Twas the Night before Christmas ….

Hi everyone,

It’s Frances Byrne here today.  As today is the 25th July, that means there are 5 months or 22 weeks or 153 days until Christmas … yikes! So I decided to share a Christmas card for today’s project. I don’t know about you, but I need to get that stash of Christmas cards growing. I just love the new Jolly the Mouse character die that will be release early in August and have used that to create my card. I have used the Lorna Label Pop Up die to create a Double Lorna Label Pop Up, so the card stands on its side.

Here is how I created my card:

The Inside –

1. Cut a piece of red card that measures 11 inches x 4 1/4 inches. Score along the long side at 5 1/2 inches and fold.

  • Keeping the card closed, place the pop up die from the Lorna Label Pop Up set so that the centre nubs of the die are lined up on the fold of the card. Run card through die cutting machine.
  • Open card up and using the Sprigs Embossing Folder, place one end of the card into the embossing folder up until the bottom score line of the pop-up. Emboss. Repeat this on other side.
  • Use white ink to highlight the embossed card.
  • Pop up your pop up panels (you should have a pop up on both sides of the card.)
  • Using green card that is big enough to fit the die, die cut two more of the Lorna Labels Pop Up die. Trim the label portion of the die from the card and adhere this over the red pop up labels on the card.
  • Die cut two labels from the Lorna Label Pop Up set from white card. Use the two sentiments from the Merry & Bright Clear Stamp set and stamp these onto the labels using red ink. (Note: as we are changing the orientation of this card from what it normally is, make sure to stamp the labels to match that orientation.)
  • Adhere the sentiment panels to card as per photo above.

2. Using the Jolly the Mouse set die cut the following:

  • (2) Solid Mouse Bodies from black card
  • (2) Detail Mouse Bodies from grey card
  • (2) Mouse Tails from grey card
  • (2) sets of eyes from white card
  • (2) sets of whiskers from white card
  • (2) sets of mouse feet from pink card
  • (2) noses from pink card
  • (2) sets of inner ears from pink card (from the detail mouse body)
  • (2) Solid Candy Canes from white card
  • (2) Detail Candy Canes from red card

Note: I normally prefer to adhere a sheet of Transparent Double-Sided Tape to my card stock before I die cut my pieces. However as we will be assembling one of the mice so it is facing the opposite direction, which means the back of the card will be the front, you will want to omit the tape for one of the mice.

Assemble mice and attach one to each side of the card using foam tape and so that the tails go under the pop up panel on each side.

3. Cut a piece of red card that measures 11 inches x 4 1/4 inches. Score along the long side at 5 1/2 inches and fold.

  • Apply adhesive to the back of one side of the inner card and adhere it to one side of the inside of the fold red card. Repeat with other side.

The Front of the Card:

4. Cut a piece of designer paper 4 1/4 inches square. Adhere this panel to the right hand side of the card.

  • Cut a piece of red card 1 1/2 inches x 4 1/4 inches. Emboss this panel using the Sprigs Embossing Folder and highlight embossed areas using white ink. Adhere red panel to left side of card.
  • Attach a Red/Gold Glitter Border Peel Off Sticker to the card where both panels meet.
  • Die cut a label from the Lorna Label Pop Up set from white card, before die cutting label place the stitched label from this set into the middle of the die so that you get a stitched label.
  • Use red ink and stamp the Merry Christmas from the Merry & Bright Clear Stamp set.
  • Attach label to the centre of the green panel using foam tape.

Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you have enjoyed my tutorial.
