Flower Cards: I Love Fussy Cutting

I admit it: I love ‘fussy cutting’! I know it’s not everybody’s favorite activity, but I really like sitting down with a pair of fine point scissors to cut around complicated shapes even when I have dies that would do the job and significantly reduce the time it takes to do a project. Dies leave a bit of a halo around the shapes, fussy cutting goes right up to the outlines. Yes, I do like to hand-hem what I sew, too. And I hand-baste rather than using pins when I sew a seam on the machine. I think it’s the slow pace that appeals to me, along with the hands-on aspect.

Today’s projects include stamping, coloring, and fussy cutting for the flowers, but I did include some die cutting for the Shimmer Sheetz branches, tag reinforcement and corners, the tag itself, and the Garden Fairies on the bonus card.

Die Cut Design Team Designer Challenge – June

Hi everyone,

It’s the Die Cut Design Team’s turn to share their cards for this month’s Die Cut Design Team Designer Challenge.

Our Challenge this month is ….. Anything but a Card – for our challenge this month let’s create a project that is anything but a card. Think along the lines of a home décor item; journaling; tags etc.

For our Challenge today we are giving away ….. two sizes of the Clear Double Sided Adhesive which will include: a pack of the 5” x 12” sheets and a 10 mm roll of tape, in addition we will also give away a pack of the new ModaScrap 12” x 12” Viaggi Vintage Patterned Paper Pack to 3 winners.

Negative Die Cut Cards May Die Cut Designer Challenge

Hi everyone,

Welcome to our May Die Cut Design Team Designer Challenge. This time round we have a technique to share with you that uses dies in a different way.

Our Challenge this month is ….. “Being Negative” – Normally when we use dies to cut we get a positive piece (the actual die cut) and a negative piece (the leftover piece or pieces that we often throw away). In many cases the negative pieces can also make interesting card components, and it is these pieces that are the focus of the Challenge cards. The Design Team can also incorporate the positive die cut piece if they wish.

Sewing with Die Cuts – Spring Flowers Card

Hi it’s Joan Frantzen here as a Guest Designer. I recently discovered that wafer-thin dies work beautifully to cleanly cut single layers of fabric, eliminating the need to fussy cut the shapes. Before cutting, fuse iron-on adhesive to the back of the fabric and voila — instant appliqués! Machine stitching adds texture, and hand-stitched or glued embellishments bring your work to a whole new level. If you enjoy sewing, these little gems allow you to practice your free-motion stitching on achievable works of art that are quick and fun to make. Frame the piece with cardstock in coordinating colors, and include an easel for display. You’ll brighten someone’s day.
