It’s Kelly Booth here with a sparkly fun coffee card using new dies and a stencil from Karen Burniston! I’m a big fan of coffee and am loving all the possibilities of the new Cup Pop Stand and the Stage it Stencils. I just can’t put them down….
Here is how the card looks when it’s closed and ready to be mailed:
Hi, it’s Sandy Diller here to share a gift I made for a friend who likes tea. I constructed this box, with a drawer, using chipboard but you could do the same thing with any box, simply by covering it with patterned paper. The top folds flat for mailing and then pops up for use in the kitchen. I combined the Hanging Charm Pull Tab die with the Cup Pop Stand to create a cute and useful gift.
It’s Frances Byrne here with my first Pop it Ups Wednesday tutorial for 2016. Karen Burniston released a number of new Pop It Ups dies last month, one of which was the Cup Pop Stand Card die set. One of the dies included in the set is a half circle die used to create the saucer for the Pop Stand Card. Looking at this die I knew that it would be perfect to use to create a Lever Card or Inside Out Card, the name we called it when making this style card 25 years or so ago. Of course it is always easier to make cards when you have a die to help you, and I so love when you can find another use for a die other than the original intention.
Kelly Booth here with a fun card using the new Paisley ‘Stage it Stencil’ and the Hanging Charm Pull Tab die set by Karen Burniston. I watched Karen teach a similar card at CHA and was so inspired by her.
Hi, It’s Kelly Booth here today with a cheerful way to send a thank you.
We all need thank you cards, especially this time of year, and this is a fun one using some *new* Elizabeth Craft Designs dies created by Joset van de Burgt and one of my favorite Accordion die sets; the Fancy Label, by Karen Burniston.
Here is the card in the closed position:
And here is the card opened up!
The back of the card:
Start by gathering the dies you will need for this project: (1149 Strawberries), (771) Accordion Fancy Label , (907) Fancy Seasons Frame Edges, and (1096) Flourish Gift Frame (for the thanks)
You’ll also need some other Elizabeth Craft Designs supplies:
Using a small piece of Soft Finish Cardstock about 2″ by 4″ place a piece of Double-Sided Adhesive on the smooth side. Peel up the liner on the adhesive, cover with Chocolate Silk Microfune Glitter and polish the glitter really well into the adhesive. Place Double-Sided Adhesive on the back of the glittered piece and cut the chocolate strawberry dips. Cover them with Glossy Accents to make them appear wet and shiny like real chocolate and set aside to dry.
Cut three pieces of Soft Finish Cardstock 4.25″ by 8.5″ and place double sided adhesive on the smooth side of each piece. Cut (16) polka dot Frame edges, (2) of the larger decorator labels, (2) labels using the Accordion die itself (snip the connection points and tabs to leave just the labels themselves), and (2) strawberry overlays. Emboss the 2 large labels with the Lots of Dots embossing folder.
Place Double-Sided Adhesive onto a scrap of red and cut the “thanks” from the Flourish Gift Frame set.
4. Die Cut the following pieces without adhesive on the back.
5. Color the strawberry leaves, detail strawberries, stems, and solid strawberries with markers. (I used Copics and then textured a little with a rag and some Blending fluid.
6. Adhere the Frame Edges around the two front pages leaving even spacing on both sides of the frame. Adhere the embossed labels to the center of each page. Snip off the long side tab on the right page. Decorate the right page with the red “thanks” referring to the photos for placement. Use a pop dot or foam tape under the small white label. Assemble the small strawberry and attach it to the raised white label as shown.
7. Place the colored strawberry leaves on the first page using liquid adhesive. Assemble the large strawberry and adhere in the position shown using foam tape adhesive.
8. Attach the two pages to each other using tape on the long side tab on the outer frame of the first page. Turn the album over and add the remaining 8 Frame Edges to the back of the album, which will disguise the tab that was used to connect the pages.
9. Using liquid adhesive on the two small tabs, join the two inner panels together. Train the card to fold correctly as shown in the photos. Remove the liner from the white labels and place them onto the back of the card matching up the Fancy Label shape. (This helps make the card sturdier and also helps support the tabs underneath.
Your card is now finished! I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial. Thank you for stopping by the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog today!
It’s Frances Byrne here with today’s Pop it Ups Wednesday tutorial. Christmas is just a couple of days away which means that we will soon be farewelling 2015 and welcoming the new year 2016. So today I am sharing a New Years card using Brownie the Cow and the Tags Pivot Card die set.
Here is how I created my card:
Using a piece of 12 inch square designer paper score at 6 inches. Fold designer paper in half.
Open the designer paper up again and this time fold in the opposite direction so the pattern we want to be seen when the card is complete is on the inside.
Take the piece of Transparent Double Sided Adhesive Tape 6 inches x 12 inches and cover one side of the paper. Remove protection backing and refold the paper so that you now have the designer paper pattern on both sides sides.
Trim designer paper down so it measures 8 1/2 inches x 5 3/4 inches.
2. Score along the 8 1/2 inch side of the card at 4 1/4 inches. Place the centre nubs of the main pivot die from the Tags Pivot Card so it is centred on the score line and run through die cutting machine.
Take a scrap of black card stock and place the main pivot card die onto this card and run through die cutting machine.
Trim out just the Tag portion from the black card and adhere this over the tags on the designer paper piece.
3. Using the Brownie the Cow Character die set die cut the following:
(1) Solid Cow Body from black card
(1) Detail Cow Body from white card (apply Transparent Double Sided Adhesive to back of card before die cutting)
(1) Set of Cow Horns from white card (apply Transparent Double Sided Adhesive to back of card before die cutting)
(1) Set of Eyes from white card (apply Transparent Double Sided Adhesive to back of card before die cutting)
(1) Set of Hooves from black card (apply Transparent Double Sided Adhesive to back of card before die cutting)
(1) Cow Face from pink card (apply Transparent Double Sided Adhesive to back of card before die cutting)
Using a black marker create cow spots randomly over the white detail cow’s body.
Assemble Brownie the Cow. You can view Karen Burniston’s video on how to assemble Brownie the Cow here.
4. Using three of the tag die from the Tags Pivot Card die set die cut using White Soft Finish Cardstock.
Attach the Cow to the largest tag using foam tape and then adhere this tag to the largest pivot tag on the card again using foam tape.
Using the Numbers & More die set die cut the numbers “2 0 1 6” from black card that has Transparent Double Sided Adhesive Tape on the back. Attach the numbers to the two smaller tags referring to photo above for placement.
Using the “and Happy New Year” sentiment from the Merry & Bright Clear Stamp set. Mask all of the sentiment except for the word Happy using masking tape or post it notes. Ink Up the word Happy using black ink and stamp towards the bottom of the middle tag.
Now mask the sentiment so just the word Year! can be stamped and stamp this onto the other tag.
Add the word “moo” above the word year on the last tag by using the Black Alphabet 1 Lower Key Peel Off Stickers.
Attach the remaining tags to the tag pivot portion of the right side of the card.
Thread black ribbon through the holes of each of the tags and tie off using white hemp cord.
5. Decorate the inside of the card by die cutting the decorative ribbon from the Ribbon & Jewels die set from both black card and white card (apply Transparent Double Sided Adhesive to back of card before die cutting) Note: You will have to die cut a total of 4 of each color to complete the card.
Adhere the white decorative ribbon to the lower portion of the card and then apply the black so it is offset from the white ribbon so both colors can be seen.
Add Black/Silver Glitter Dots Peel Off Stickers to the circle portion of the die cut.
Using the Fitted Frames 1 Lace Rectangles die set, die cut the largest photo corner from black card (apply Transparent Double Sided Adhesive to back of card before die cutting). Adhere the photo corners to the top left and right corners of the inside of the card.
6. Using black card that has Double Sided Adhesive Tape adhered on the back, die cut the letters “W H A T S M O O” from the Alphabet 1 Caps die set. Also die cut the symbol @ from the Numbers & More die set.
Referring to the photo above attach the letters onto the card. Create the apostrophe by cutting part of @ symbol and by adding a inner circle from either the number 6 or number 9 from the Numbers & More die set.
Decorate the lower portion of the card by adding the decorative ribbon from the Ribbons & Jewels die set as we did in step 5 on the inside of the card.
7. Add the remaining decorative ribbon from the Ribbons & Jewels die set along the bottom of the back of the card.
Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you have enjoyed my tutorial.
Hi, it’s Sandy Diller here – I’ve been working on some tags for CHA and thought it would be fun to share one with you today. Making tags is fun and easy, rather like making just the inside of a card. No need to worry about the thickness because it doesn’t close. The holiday season will soon be over for another year so let’s think about what’s coming next; Valentine’s Day!
Love is in the air-
Instructions:
Using Elizabeth Craft Designs 100# Soft Finish cardstock cut one piece that is 3.25″ X 8.5″.
Cut decorative top using Tags & More 1, Lace.
Cut tag to measure 6.25″ in length.
The hearts are from several different die sets, all listed below. Cut hearts from white cardstock that has Double Sided Adhesive added to the back. Die cut with the adhesive side up. Make at least 4 of each size, so you’ll have plenty for the project. Plus, if there are leftover hearts, they can always be used for a future project.
From the Katie Label Pivot Card -cut 2 of the smallest labels, one from soft finish cardstock and another from the adhesive-on-white cardstock.
Barrel Basket die – cut the main basket from textured paper, the handle and bands from a darker color and the grip from another lighter color.
Working on a non stick mat or piece of scrap paper add molding paste to tag as follows.
Using the *NEW* Stage it Stencil – Medallion – place stencil over tag and line up edges using temporary tape to hold in place.
Using molding paste (aka modeling paste or embossing paste) spread over stencil, spreading like peanut butter. Smooth paste over stencil until tag is covered.
Remove stencil lifting straight up and clean stencil immediately.
The tag may buckle but will flatten as it dries.
Allow paste to air dry. Do not use heat gun for drying – it will cause the paste to puff up
Peel protective sheet from hearts to expose adhesive and dip in ECD Microfine Glitter, Warm Diamond.
Polish Glitter with fingers.
With blending tool – add color.
When molding paste is dry – spray tag with stain.
Dab excess stain with dry paper towel. This will make color even and take stain off the molding paste making the pattern pop.
Allow to dry completely.
Stain one label with same stain as tag – dry.
Stamp with “hello” from Cheeky Monkey Clear Stamp Set (coming soon) and the “sweetie” from Just A Note Clear Stamp Set (coming soon).
Remove protective sheet from adhesive on second label and attach to stamp label.
Edge label with color.
Poke hole in lower left corner of label and hang heart using jump ring, string or twine.
Assemble basket and glue in corner.
Arrange and glue hearts.
Glue label on tag.
Add ribbon.
My mixed media tags using Pop it Ups products with the Tags & More dies will be on display in the Elizabeth Craft Designs CHA booth #775 January 9-12, 2016. Stay tuned to the Facebook pages (check the right sidebar for links) to see photos and videos from the show.
Hi, it’s Karen Burniston with the December Pop it Ups Designer Challenge. Each month I challenge my Designer Challenge team to use Pop it Ups dies for a specific theme. This month the theme is to interpret the phrase Home for the Holidays. The team will definitely put you in the holiday spirit with their beautiful creations, celebrating the warmth of home and those special memories we create with the people we love.
For my card and video I wanted to celebrate Santa’s arrival by creating a pop-up fireplace with dangling boots. The Props 6 cowboy boot dies work just perfectly (with slight modifications) to make Santa’s boots and also to make stockings for the front of the hearth. The fireplace itself is made using the Lots of Pops die, plus an added hand-scored insert strip to line the fireplace and hold the boots. Learn all the steps to making your own fireplace card by watching this video tutorial:
Because the fireplace is bulky and will want to spring the card open, I chose to create a magnetic fold-over flap at the bottom to keep the card closed. I used the Props 5 Santa hat sticking out of the chimney top for the front of the card plus a strip of “Merry Christmas” washi tape across the flap.
When the card is opened the fireplace pops up and Santa’s boots dangle in the fireplace. Other decorations include a candle made from the lower portion of the Lots of Pops pole plus a flame, greenery and berries from the Els van de Burgt Studio Candle die set. Santa’s boots and the stockings are made by snipping away the toe of the cowboy boot (and the heel for the stockings) and then creating a cuff with one of the banners in the Lots of Pops die. The two stars that come included with the Props 6 set layer nicely in Shimmer Sheetz to create the star garland. Rudy the Reindeer’s wreath is glued to the wall behind the candle with a Shimmer Sheetz mirror inlaid inside the wreath to reflect the candle. No Santa card would be complete with the word “Believe” and the Quietfire calligraphy die was the perfect choice.
Here is a side view of the card showing how the boots are hanging inside the fireplace. It’s a very easy technique and the video shows how to do it. I also created a very simple box platform from cardstock for behind the candle. As I say in the video, the decorations for the fireplace are completely up to you. Dig around in your stash and see what you have. Could you make a plate of cookies? A glass of milk? How about ornaments, greenery and lights atop the mantel? Personalize the card by writing names on the stockings.
The finished card measures 5.5″ wide by just under 5″ tall and can be mailed in an A7 envelope. Extra postage will be required because of its thickness.
Ready to make your own Santa’s arrival card? Here’s what you’ll need:

Frances Byrne created this cozy holiday home using the Adirondack Chair Pop Up plus a host of other decorator dies from various sets. The Holiday House and Outdoor Edges combine for a festive card front and the Merry & Bright Clear Stamps create the greeting. I love how she made the calendar!
Fran Sabad went to the country for this amazing Home for the Holidays creation. She assembled several Characters for the card front, including Brownie the Cow, Cheepers the Chicken, Jolly the Mouse, Snowball the Sheep and William the Goat. The background is the Outdoor Edges and she also used presents from the Sleigh die and the Props 5 Santa outfit.
Open the card and the garland (made from Rudy the Reindeer’s wreath) carries inside where Cocoa the Horse uses it to decorate the barn. I mean brilliant! Fabulous card!
Caz Counsell interpreted the theme a little differently for her project. She wanted to use Pop it Ups to decorate her own Home for the Holidays. Perfect! It’s a great project, too, with Gift Card Accordion pages (embellished with Flourish Gift Frames) strung together with Rudy the Reindeer, Fancy and Katie Labels. Love it!
Karen Aicken really set a wintry scene with this soft pretty card combining the Christmas Trees Pop Stand die with the Holiday House die. By using a pop stand in the center, Karen was able to animate the house just like the trees. I want to visit this house for sure!
Sandy Diller says “Merry Christmas, Ma’am!” with this mighty fine western holiday landscape. She created a floating floor inside the card to allow for the Holiday House, Christmas Tree and Fence dies to be animated in different locations. I love the siding on the Holiday House with the barn front door. Perfection!
Raquel Mason will make you go Awwww! with this adorable mouse house. She used the Barn Pop Stand, also with a floating floor so she could animate items throughout the card. Jolly the Mouse wears the Santa Props 5 and the Holiday House die’s door and string of lights work perfectly to give Jolly’s home a festive feel!
Summer Hills-Painter made a mansion from the Holiday House on this festive card featuring the Flourish Gift Frame for the front of the card and the Merry Christmas pop up inside. I love the doubled window, traditional colors and crisp, classy feel of this card.
Kelly Booth wanted to welcome friends and family home for the holidays with a festive front door. She created it on the Rectangle Pull Card and cleverly combined decorator Katie labels and ovals for the trim and used the slot die from the upcoming Oval Pull Card for the door handle. The new Pull Card Edges allow for shadowed paper placement and Kelly used Rudy the Reindeer for door decor. I also love how she stacked up several cuts on the Merry Christmas to make a faux-chipboard greeting.
Fran Sabad created a mousey wonderland! Jolly and his neighbor meet to go a’caroling outside their picture perfect brick houses. The structure is the House Pivot Card with the tripling technique and Fran also added many accessory dies to set the scene. Fa la la la fun!
Helen Cryer is the queen of pop-up gingerbread house cards and this card certainly shows why! She used the Holiday House die, expanded into a gingerbread mansion, on pop stand dies to make a standing pop-up scene. Absolutely gorgeous! Helen is taking a break from the team to focus on a very exciting new adventure – she’s a new Fire Fighter! How cool is that?! We will miss her on the team, but hopefully we can convince her to do some guest spots with us in 2016. Congratulations, Helen!
Shelly Hickox made this beautiful woodland inviting scene, complete with Holiday House turned log cabin, shrink plastic Rudy antlers (adorable!) and Evergreen Pivot trees turned into stamps, textured with real foliage! See a video of this card opening and closing on her blog plus read all her tips for making this card.
Caz Counsell created a very fun card front featuring Jolly the Mouse, contentedly sleeping in his cozy nest. Caz joked that perhaps Jolly had indulged a bit at the holiday party, or perhaps he is dreaming of sugarplums. I love how Caz created the frame using the Circle Accordion and then ringed it with the Els van de Burgt Studio Leaves & Berry Branches for the perfect little nest.
Karen Aicken made this wonderful tri-panel card featuring the Evergreen Pivot Card. She added the extra flap to the right side of the card that opens up to reveal the Holiday House, a prancing reindeer from the Merry & Bright Clear Stamps, and a sweet greeting. Such a clever card design and so elegantly pretty.
Frances Byrne made a ton of clever adaptations in this fun gingerbread house standing card. By turning the Rectangle Pull Card sideways it becomes a cool standing card. Frances created a gingerbread man by combining pieces of two Character dies. So many great ideas in this card!
Kelly Booth made this sweet card using the Holiday House to decorate the front of the card and the Christmas Trees Pop Stand die inside. I just love the crisp colors and textured styling to everything. Check out her blog to see a flat card made with the Holiday House die as well.
Sandy Diller made this cute little decor piece using two brand new dies shipping in January. She used a new Character die, Baker the Beaver, and the fun Props 8 set, which included the Chef’s hat, heart, spatula, slice of cake and fork. Awww. Bakers gotta bake!
It’s hard to believe that another wonderful year with Elizabeth Craft Designs is almost over. The company has grown by leaps and bounds this year and in just a few short weeks we’ll be at CHA (January 9-12, 2016) debuting many great new collections that you can preview right now in the Coming Soon section of the website.
Join us for our first Designer Challenge in the New Year on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 where we have a wide open theme called NEW! We’ll be showing you all sorts of great ideas using brand new products released at CHA. Pop it Ups Designer Challenges are moving to my blog in 2016. January will be the standard format, but look for a new style of challenges starting in February. (More on that later!)
Have a wonderful holiday season and Happy Crafting,
Hello, Mary here – I wanted to make a winter scene for Rudy with some traditional holiday elements: Snow, poinsettias, garlands, holly and berries. Susan’s CountryScapes dies easily create the perfect backdrop for holiday scenes.
Making the Card
1. Cut white cardstock 7 x 10 inches; fold in half for a card base. Cut blue snowflake-patterned paper 4 3/4 x 6 3/4 inches (DCWV The Christmas & Winter 180 Stack). Adhere to card base.
2. Cut white cardstock into two strips about 1 1/2 x 5 inches. Use Outdoor Edges hills die to create snow hills. Adhere to bottom of card as shown – use dimensional tape for the bottom hills to pop them up.
3. Watch this video for cutting the cardstock and assembling one of Karen Burniston’s Characters. You will make Rudy the Reindeer in a similar manner.
Measure and cut off amounts of cardstock in each color for the appropriate parts: black – reindeer base and hooves, dark brown – reindeer face/body, white -reindeer eyes and fence snow (CountryScapes Backyard 4 – Snow Décor), kraft – Country Fence 1, cream – reindeer antlers and flower pot (CountryScapes – Backyard 1), red – reindeer nose, green – poinsettia leaves (2 sets) and garlands. Add these to double sided adhesive. (I used the large roll.) Die cut. Assemble Rudy the Reindeer.
4. Die cut poinsettia flowers from red cardstock (8 total, cut 4 times). Shape petals by rubbing small stylus down each and rubbing in the middle to form a slight cup shape. Die cut holly leaves (Garden Notes – Holiday Holly & Berries) from green cardstock, 3 sets (15 total). Draw a line down the middle of each with the pointed leaf tool.
5. Make a wreath from the holly leaves around the reindeer’s neck by gluing each in place at one end. To add berries, use a toothpick to apply Rouge Liquid Pearls but do not add more than one in each place at a time, letting them dry in between, otherwise they will merge together.
6. Adhere each of the 5-petal poinsettia layers to a 6-petal poinsettia layer, offsetting them. Add Liquid Pearls Avocado and Buttercup to centers with toothpick, a few dots (not touching) at a time, letting them dry in between applications.
7. Adhere fence, snow on fence, garlands, and Rudy as shown (optional: add dimensional tape behind Rudy’s head and the flower pot to pop them up). Adhere pot, poinsettias, and leaves as shown.
8. Stamp Merry Christmas sentiment in green ink where shown. Adhere snowflake embellishments where shown.
Today I want to share a Christmas card with non-traditional colors using the new Gift Card Accordion die. Let me show you how I made my card.
Instructions:
Cut two 4.25″ x 5.5″ pieces of Soft Finish Cardstock and back with Double-Sided Adhesive. Cut a 2 ½” x 5″ strip of coordinating cardstock and place Double-Sided Adhesive on the front of the piece.
Cut two Gift Card Accordion pages from heavy cardstock and one page from patterned paper. Cut two Flourish Gift Frames from the adhesive-backed soft finish cardstock, making sure to roll the die through the machine diagonally for best pressure. From one of the interior rectangles left after cutting the frames, die cut the Merry Christmas sentiment. Die cut various snowflakes from the coordinating cardstock, making sure to place the die on the adhesive side of the piece. Die cut one medium rectangle from the coordinating cardstock with the Flourish Gift Frame die set.
Trim the center from the patterned paper page. Using distress ink and a blending tool, ink the Flourish Gift Frame and the sentiment. (tip: it is easier to ink delicate dies such as words by leaving them in the negative surroundings)
Remove the adhesive liner from the snowflakes and top with Cool Diamond Silk Microfine glitter. Polish the glitter into the adhesive with your fingers.
For a deeper color, color with a matching alcohol marker.
Adhere the two Flourish Gift Frames to the front and back of one cardstock page. Adhere the patterned cardstock to the second page.
Adhere the two card pages together using the side tabs. Trim off the tabs from the right page. Adhere the layering rectangle and words to the left page.
Using the Merry & Bright Clear Stamps, stamp the sentiment to view when the gift card is removed, to the right panel while the card is flat. Adhere the glittered snowflakes to the card.
Attach the two inner rectangles to each other using the tab on the Merry Christmas page.
Slide a gift card under the tabs. The card will fit in an A2 envelope for mailing.
