Shimmer Sheetz Sunday: Contain Yourself – Desk Décor

August 5, 2018

By Judi Kauffman

Want to do some re-purposing and up-cycling? Today’s tutorial demonstrates how to use Shimmer Sheetz to give scraps of wood and clear plastic boxes a new life as ‘Desk Décor’! The boxes came with spray mists, the beaded trim was once a belt, the vintage flower was a brooch I wore on a winter coat.

The Wood Block Tool Holders and Plastic Box Pencil and Pen Palace would make a fun holiday gifts. Both are easy and fast to make; switch the color combination to suit the style of the recipients. And don’t forget to make a sparkly little treat or two for yourself while you’re at it!

Shimmer Sheetz Sunday: Cupcake and Cake Toppers

July 8, 2018

By Judi Kauffman

This tutorial is devoted to sweet treats and parties. And, yes. I ate all three fancy store-bought cupcakes after finishing the photos…one a day to prove myself capable of a modicum of self-restraint (I live near Georgetown Cupcake so I splurged), but I resisted the urge to bake or buy a cake on which to show the cake topper!

This project has many other options. Several are listed at the end of the instructions.

Shimmer Sheetz Sunday: Treasure Tins

June 3, 2018

By Judi Kauffman

One of my neighbors handed me a paper bag the other day, grinning like a Cheshire cat as she said she thought it might be something I could use. Boy, was she right! The bag held twenty little empty Gingermints tins from Trader Joe’s. She’d been saving them for ages without any idea what to do with them till she met me and realized I loved to give items a face lift.

Who doesn’t love empty tins? These are the perfect size for jewelry, small seashells, canceled stamps, more candies or other treasures.  knew right away that I could cover them with Shimmer Sheetz without having to paint the sides. The top is already a nice soft peach and the bottom an interesting shade of green. Maybe it’s time for a visit to Trader Joe’s to see what other candy tins I can find…

Butterfly Joy

April 14, 2018

Judi Kauffman

I’m here today for Suzanne Cannon’s A Way With Words Design Team with a tutorial that combines some of my favorite things: Suzanne’s dies, hanging ornaments, butterflies, and Shimmer Sheetz! (I can never have too much sparkle or too many butterflies…) And I mixed in dies from the Dashing Squares and Dashing Circles sets and corners from ModaScrap’s Victorian Gentleman set to show how well all collections from Elizabeth Craft Designs work together.

I picked a rich, deep, subtle color palette, but Shimmer Sheetz offers many other options for switching the combination to suit your taste and the occasion! Go with bright hues or soft pastels or stay totally tone-on-tone by using only ONE color.

Shimmer Sheetz Sunday: Flower Power

April 1, 2018

Judi Kauffman

For today’s tutorial I’m skipping the April showers and heading straight to the May flowers. Shimmer Sheetz flowers, that is… Though I’ve planted them on bright and happy cards, these blooms are waterproof so you could pop them onto a potted plant, string them as a garland to hang at an outdoor party, or with a few minor tweaks use them to decorate napkin rings, tennis shoes or flip flops, hair bows and all sorts of accessories and other projects!

Shimmer Sheetz Sunday: Five-Minute Bookmarks

March 4, 2018

By Judi Kauffman

I haven’t yet converted to eBooks and probably won’t. I love the heft of a good novel, I enjoy turning actual paper pages and when it’s time for a break, tucking in a bookmark. I use bookmarks in my cookbooks to keep track of favorite recipes. I include them whenever I give a book as a gift. And, as you have probably guessed, I LOVE making them!

Shimmer Sheetz is an excellent starting point for bookmarks. It’s sturdy, lightweight and durable, and it looks downright elegant.

Happy Birthday Friend

February 17, 2018

 by Judi Kauffman

So many people have requested masculine cards that I thought I’d head in that direction today. It’s an oversized card meant to hang on the wall, though you could make a smaller size version with only one star. If you plan to mail it in an envelope, skip the bead at the top.

As with almost all papercrafting projects, switching the color combination and a few other elements will give the card a very different look. Choose bright color flowers instead of stars, polka dots instead of wood grain cardstock, or combine pastel butterflies with cardstock printed or stenciled with clouds in soft shades of blue. Voila! The transformation is complete…

One little secret: The die for the word ‘Friend’ has an ‘s’ on the end so you’ll need to do a bit of careful trimming to change it from a plural noun.
