Hello 30th!

May 16, 2018

Hi everyone, it’s Luciana here and I’m so happy to be back on the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog to share a project that I’ve create to celebrate a special girl’s 30th birthday.

The inspiration behind this card came from a vintage Polaroid photo. I used 2 die sets – the Dashing Squares and the Dashing Rectangles.

STEP 1.
Temporarily tape together 2 dies as shown to create the effect of a cute Polaroid frame. Use washi tape or other low-tack easily removable tape. Cut four times from white cardstock.

STEP 2.
Glue 3 of the 4 frames one on top of the other for heft and dimension. Put Clear Double Sided Adhesive on the back of the fourth frame as shown in the photo below, leaving the top tape-free. Adhere this to the other (stacked) frames to create a photo pocket.

STEP 3.
Die cut numbers or a sentiment from glittered foam. Tip – if foam isn’t adhesive-backed, back it with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Sheet prior to die cutting. Shown: The new Blackboard Numbers die set.

STEP 4.
Use the Garden Notes – Dogwood 2 dies to create a floral decoration. Die cut the branch twice, all other pieces four times from White Soft Finish Cardstock.

To give a more realistic wood effect, apply ink in various shades of brown and add more shadows and lights to the branch.

Use the stylus and the molding pad to shape both of the branch pieces and glue them together.

STEP 5.
Color the leaves with different shades of greens and shape them with the leaf tool. Make the central line on the back of the leaves, and the vein lines ones on the front.

Use tweezers to pinch and further shape the leaves.

STEP 6.
Color the petals. (Refer to photos of real flowers as inspiration and to help me make the flowers look more realistic.)

These are all the pieces you need to create a the branch of dogwood:

STEP 7.
To create the flower, glue together two petals in the shape of an x, then add the pistils in the center.

STEP 8.
Put the photo into the frame. Glue the branch directly onto the frame, then the flowers. Tuck and adhere the leaves under the flowers and along the branch. and the leaves. Putting the dogwood in place after the photo is in the frame allows you to decide on the best placement that doesn’t cover or interrupt the photo in the wrong spots.

Add the numbers or other title/sentiment. Optional: Add a small bow as shown.

You can see all the details in the photos below.

STEP 9.
Attach the card front to a rigid support, like a White Soft Finish Cardstock side-fold card base. Optional: Prior to adding the frame panel, decorate the card base with collage elements and 3D paint as shown.

I really hope you have enjoyed this tutorial! Thank you for stopping by.
