As you might have guessed from the title of today’s project and from looking at the photo of it, this ornament is for a baseball fan(atic) who is going through a difficult time. And you may have guessed that our team’s colors are red and white. (Go Nats!!!)
To customize this project, instead of the word Courage choose a different sentiment or greeting and use the ornament to say Get Well Soon, Happy Birthday, Happy Anniversary, Thinking of You, Be Brave, etc. – Suzanne Cannon’s A Way With Words die collection offers so many possibilities! Instead of an ornament, make a round card or add the circle to a square top-fold card base.
To replicate the ornament as shown, start with team colors or any two colors that are appropriate for the recipient – two colors in Shimmer Sheetz and one in Velvet Adhesive sheet.
Step 1 – Die cut the word ‘Courage’ from Velvet Adhesive sheet in one of the team colors. Die cut two Dashing Circles from Shimmer Sheetz in the same color as the word, die cut a third (smallest) Dashing Circle from the second team color. Lightly sand the smallest and middle-size to tone down the sparkle just a tad.
Reminder: A metal adaptor plate or Big Shot machine with Precision Base Plate is required for die cutting Shimmer Sheetz! Review Els van de Burgt’s YouTube video if you are new to die cutting SS.
Step 2 – Layer and adhere the three circles. Use an awl to pierce a small hole at the top of the ornament, add a hanging loop (metallic braid or narrow ribbon).
Step 3 – Adhere the word Courage at an upward (and optimistic!) angle as shown.
Step 4 – Adhere a sticker or photo at the top of the ornament – a baseball, football, soccer ball, or whatever is appropriate to the team and person being celebrated. Optional: Spell out the person’s name with stickers or die cut letters around the bottom. (Determine what size letters to use and how to space them based on the number of letters in the name.)
