Hello! I’m back with my favorite component on cards – butterflies! I just think they are the prettiest and most wonderful creatures, and so easy to play with on cards. They can be any shape, design, colors… so versatile. I must say though that my favorite butterflies for papercrafting are the more delicate die cuts. Read on to see how I created this simple but elegant card.
- Trim a sheet of light blue card stock to make the 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ card base.
- Trim 2 white base layer pieces sized 4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″.
- On one of the white base layer pieces use the inks and colors of your choice (I used salty ocean, Peacock Feathers, Squeezed Lemonade and Spiced Marmalade) to sponge a gradient (blended or ‘ombre’) background from which to cut the butterflies and flourishes.
- Die cut the butterflies and flourishes from the inked piece, keeping them in the order that the butterflies will be adhered to the card front when doing the cutting (not randomly, but planned out). Refer to the photo and notice how the blue and teal are at the bottom, blending into yellow and then orange and red toward the top.
- Using black or any dark ink of choice, stamp the sentiment from A Way With Words onto the second white rectangle that was cut in step 2.
- Carefully glue all the die cuts onto the stamped rectangle.
- For some added shine, use the clear Wink of Stella glitter pen over the butterflies. This will also help with blending the colors together.
- Adhere to blue card base.
- Finally, trim any die cuts that extend past the card base to clean up the edges of the card front.
Thank you so much for looking and I hope you have a wonderful, crafty day.
