A Little Rain

January 29, 2018

Hello everyone!  EK Gorman here hoping your day is filled with sunshine instead of rain.  Where I am, it is no longer as cold as it was earlier this month and all the snow is gone, but now our skies are filled with clouds and rain, so I felt it was only fitting to create a card that brings out the hope of sunshine despite the wet weather.  The new stamp set from Krista Schneider, April Showers, is the perfect stamp set for such a card.  I created a little rainy Copic-colored card that celebrates the sunshine within the showers.

Step 1: Stamping

Cut White Soft Finish Cardstock to 4.25″ x 5.5″.  Load the cardstock onto a stamping platform and arrange the five stamps shown in the photo above for your scene.  Use Copic-friendly ink to stamp the images all at one time. (Tip: If using markers other than Copics, be sure the ink is compatible with the pens.)

The baby duck needs to be stamped a second time behind the first.  Also stamp the raindrops three times as shown.

Stamp a lightweight paper mask and position it over the little girl.  (TIP: I use 2″ PostIt Tape).  Stamp the raindrops over the little girl so some of the drops are peaking out behind her.

Before removing the mask from the little girl, stamp the tree, the whistling bird on the branch, and the small flowers from the Krista Schneider Woodland Pals stamp set.

Above is what the finished stamped scene with the mask removed should look like.

Step 2: Coloring

Start with the bright bold colors of the scene – Copics Y11, Y15, and Y17 for the coat, boots, sun, flowers, duck bill and feet.  Color the ducks with Y000, Y00 and Colorless Blender.

Using a permanent pen with a nib that closely matches the lines in the stamp, extend the tree trunk so it is higher than the cloud.  (.1 Pigma Micron pen in black.)

Color the tree and the girl’s hair with E13, E15, E17 and E18.

Color the clouds, blue bird, stripes and ground with B93, B95, and B97.  Flick in the grass and color the dress, leaf and leggings with G24, G94, and G99.  Add shading to the background with N0, N2, and N4.

Step 3: Finishing the Card

Using 6mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive, adhere the scene to an A2 top-folding card base.

Hope you enjoyed seeing the breakdown of this colorful card!  Thanks for stopping in.

Love the water effect how did you do this?

The water effect is really simply. It is just half circles and waves with my darkest colors, then blended out with the lighter colors.
