Monochromatic Die Cut Glittered Background Card

December 21, 2017

Hello there everyone, Sanna here today. Welcome to my last tutorial of the year, the last project I’ll be doing as a member of the Die Cut Design Team. It´s been a fabulous two years and I have enjoyed every minute of it.  But before I tell you more about that, I´d like to share this card tutorial with you.
This card – well these cards, actually – were inspired by the recent background challenge. As you might recall, I made quite a few cards for that challenge. I love creating backgrounds for my projects with dies, stencils and stamps as well as various media. This card features one of the newest background dies and this is how I created it:

This card I really fast and easy to create and by changing the colors and the sentiments, it can be used for all types of occasions.

1. Die cut a piece of ‘release sheet’ (the protective paper) leftover from a piece of Clear Double Sided Adhesive Sheet with the Abstract Background die. Place it onto a piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock to use as a stencil.
2. Sponge Worn Lipstick Distress Ink through the stencil to create the first layer of the stencil.
3. Die cut a piece of Clear Double Sided Adhesive Sheet with the same Abstract Background die and adhere to the card front, aligning it carefully so the inked areas are visible. (If it’s not lined up perfectly, it doesn’t matter – some of the white cardstock will remain visible and will give a slightly 3D look).
4. After you have adhered the adhesive sheet, you can either leave the piece as it is, or add some ink to the lighter areas to correct your inking results before you remove the protective sheet from the adhesive. OR just leave it as it is for the 3D look.
5. Now remove the protective sheet from the die cut piece and apply Peony Pink Silk Microfine Glitter (or color of choice) onto the exposed adhesive. Take care not to touch the adhesive!
6. Brush off excess glitter, return it to the jar. Polish the glitter with a fingertip to bring out the maximum sparkle.
7. Lightly sponge a piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock with Pink Distress Ink. Let ink dry, then stamp the sentiment and the flower with black ink.
8. Cut the sentiment as a strip that will fit across the card front. Fussy cut around the flower or die cut with matching die.
9. Adhere the flower with foam tape and the sentiment with paper glue. Decorate the flower with glitter glue on the outlines around the petals and a cluster of dots drawn with Liquid Pearls at the center.

In the photo above you can see the perfectly aligned version of the background. The photo below shows a card that is offset rather than perfectly aligned. It has some white areas still peeking through here and there. This adds a little bit more interest to the background by creating a 3-dimensional effect to the card.

To give you a better idea of each step, I created a start-to-finish video for you to watch:

I hope you´ll enjoy this card idea and get inspired to try it out yourself!

I guess now is the time to say my farewells as a die cut design team member.

With this card I wish you all a lovely holiday season and all the best for 2018. It´s been a great two years on the die cut design team and I have truly enjoyed working with the Elizabeth Craft Designs team. While I am stepping down from my duties in the die cut design team, I am not completely disappearing from here. You will see me posting projects here on the blog from time to time starting from January 2018, not as a die cut design team member, but more as a visiting blogger and guest designer. I am very much looking forward to my new duties in the team and hope to keep on inspiring you all with my projects. So for now I’ll wish you all a very Merry Christmas time and a happy 2018!!! See you in January!!
Happy Crafting,
xxx,

Sanna
