Elizabeth Craft Designs General Els van de Burgt Studio Krista Schneider Soft Finish Cardstock

Butterfly Window Card

September 15, 2017

Hi Everyone! It’s Tina here today from the Coloring Team. I am so excited about the new stamp release by Krista Schneider. To be honest, it was so hard to choose which set to start with. In the end, with summer barely hanging on, I chose the Bugs and Butterflies set. Below you will find the easy steps to replicate this card.

  • Step 1 – Cut White Soft Finish Cardstock 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″. Score and fold in half to form a horizontal side-fold card base. Finished size:  4 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ (A2)
  • Step 2 – Create a window frame – to do this you will need to die cut Fitted Squares medium size and Dotted Scallop Squares slightly larger at the same time. For easy results use masking tape to hold the two dies together and in position. Die cut from White Soft Finish Cardstock.

  • Step 3 – Create a backdrop for your window. You can use patterned paper, ink or plain cardstock to create your backdrop. I used Oxide Inks on White Soft Finish Cardstock. I added some colors of the Oxides Inks onto a craft mat, spritzed some water and dipped the White Soft Finish Cardstock on top. Dry with a heat tool. Repeat several times. In between dips and heat drying, spray some water to create dorplets. See photo above (this is the leftover half that was not used for the backdrop)
  • Step 4 – Diec ut the backdrop using Fitted Squares. (Tip: use the die one size up from the die used to create the window opening, but smaller than the outer edge of the frame.)
  • Step 5 – Add foam tape to the bottom of the window frame and adhere to the backdrop. Before adhering the window to the card, front mark the spot for the sentiment and stamp it with black ink. (I Love You is from the General Sentiments Clear Stamps set). Use 3mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive to adhere the window

  • Step 6 – Stamp Bugs and Butterflies (the butterfly shown above) on White Soft Finish Cardstock. Color, using any medium of your choice.  Pro markers used here. A tip when coloring. I blended a soft green color with soft blue which gave me fabulous results. Try blending different hues together. Once colored,  die cut with matching Bugs and Butterflies die.
  • Step 7 – Adhere Butterfly to upper right corner of the window. I used 3mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape for part of the butterfly that is on the window frame and foam tape at the bottom of the wings where the butterfly overlaps the backdrop.

This Window Card can be used for any occasion by changing the image, sentiment, backdrop and colors. Below is a supply list. Thanks for stopping by.
