You’re the Best Dahlia Card

July 20, 2017

Hello my friends

A warm welcome to the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog. It’s Pavitra here and today i have a gorgeous card to share with you. I created it for a special friend, using the Dahlia from Susan’s Garden.

Dahlias are such versatile flowers, they come in various colors and with Susan’s dies it is so easy to create them. For this card I chose various shades of pink.

To make the card follow the instructions below.

Step 1 . Cut black cardstock to 13″  x 9-1/2″, score at 6-1/2″ and fold to create a 9 1/2 ” x 6 1/2 ” side=fold card base.

Step 2. Cut a piece of Lavender Soft Finish Cardstock  6-1/4″ x 9-1/4″. Layer on top of black cardstock using Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape.

Step 3. Cut watercolor paper 6″ x 9″. Apply Fossilized Amber and Cracked Pistachio Distress Inks and Wilted Violet Distress Oxide Ink onto a craft mat, spritz with water and press watercolor paper on top the wet inks to create a background. Air dry or heat set. Repeat as needed until the whole sheet is covered with color.

Step 4. Score the card at 1/4 inch intervals across the width of the cardstock to create raised (embossed) ridges.

Step 5.  Layer the colorful panel onto the card front, centered as shown. Optional: Use foam tape to add dimension.

Step 6. Cut a piece of Lavender Soft Finish Cardstock to 3″ x 4″ and emboss using the Fleur de Lis embossing folder.

Step 7. Use the ‘Swirly Flourish’ stencil to add color to white paper with a mix of Squeezed Lemonade, Fossilized Amber and Wild Honey Distess Inks. Tip: Start with the lightest color first, then middle value, then darkest, so the lighter ink pads won’t get contaminated with darker inks.

Step 8. Cut the stenciled paper into tubes as shown in the photo above.

Step 9. Arrange paper tubes onto card base, layer embossed cardstock on top.

Step 10. Die Cut Soft Finish Cardstock with Flower Lace 1 , cut it in half and adhere the pieces as shown in the photo above.

Step 11. Die cut White Soft Finish Cardstock with Garden Notes Dahlia, sponge with inks and shape using  tools from the All Metal Tool Kit, Embossing Pad and Leaf Pad. Arrange and adhere leaves and dahlias onto the card as shown.

Step 12. Using the “You’re the Best” sentiment from the  General Sentiments Clear Stamp set, stamp onto white cardstock with black Archival Ink. Die cut sentiment using a Fitted Circle; sponge the edges with pink ink. Attach to the top right hand corner of the card using foam tape.

Optional: Create the effect of dew drops on the flowers and leaves using Glossy Accents.

Thank you for stopping by. I hope you’ll enjoy making your own version of this card. The paper tubes are an idea that can be used for all sorts of projects, don’t you think?
