June 6, 2017

Hi everyone,

It’s the Die Cut Design Team’s turn to share their cards for this month’s Die Cut Design Team Designer Challenge.

Our Challenge this month is ….. Anything but a Card – for our challenge this month let’s create a project that is anything but a card. Think along the lines of a home décor item; journaling; tags etc.

For our Challenge today we are giving away ….. two sizes of the Clear Double Sided Adhesive which will include: a pack of the 5” x 12” sheets and a 10 mm roll of tape, in addition we will also give away a pack of the new ModaScrap 12” x 12” Viaggi Vintage Patterned Paper Pack to 3 winners.

To enter, simply leave a comment on this blog post below and answer this question: Besides the classic card, what are some project ideas you like to play around with?

We will select 3 lucky winners in a random drawing.

The winners will be announced on Friday, June 9, here on the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog.

Now let’s take a look at the wonderful creations our talented Design Team have created for the Challenge this month. For more information about the projects, click on the designer’s name under each project to be taken to the designer’s blog post that will open up in a new window.

Selma has also used Corners and Borders Black Peel Off Stickers; Flower Pot and Bloomy Day Prills; Gold Metallic Shimmer Sheetz and White Soft Finish Cardstock.

Anything but a Card by Frances Byrne

Frances Byrne created a piece of wall art using a multi photo photo frame.  To create her art piece Frances used White Soft Finish Cardstock with the ModaScrap Lacy Poppies die set adding black prills from the Flower Pot Prills set to the centres of the full poppies. Frances also used the A Way with Words – Live; Love and Laugh sentiments to decorate three of the panels. Frances used three stencils to add interest to the background of each of the panels which include: A Way with Stencils Dotty; A Way with Stencils – Butterflies and Stars & the Behind the Scenes – Mountain and Split Rail Fence.

Sandy Diller has created tags using the Tags & More 1 – Lace die set. To decorate her tags Sandy has used the Krista Schneider Spring Blooms Clear Stamp set. Sandy added the “Smile” and “Thanks” sentiments from Els van de Burgt Studio to finish off her tags.

Tina Guigui Dornbaum  has also created a tag. Tina decorated her tag using one of the new corners from the ModaScrap Romantic Corner die set. For further embellishments Tina has added flowers using the Els van de Burgt Studio Victorian Flowers die set; Curvy Leaves die set, Smile sentiment die and the ModaScrap Dragonfly die set.

Anita Kejriwal has created this fun tote bag which can be used for so many things. To create the bag Anita used patterned paper from the ModaScrap Cucina with Love 12 x 12 Paper Pack. To decorate the tote bag Anita used ModaScrap Lace Corners; Stitched Circles from Els van de Burgt Studio and Krista Schneider’s Tea Time Clear Stamps.

Birgit Norton has created this gorgeous Candleholder for our challenge which is perfect to use with artificial candles. To create the holder Birgit has used the ModaScrap Lace Pocket and then decorated the holder using the Lace Heart and Leafy Branch 5 both from ModaScrap; the Susan’s Garden Dogwood die set and the Scalloped Hearts die set from Els van de Burgt Studio.

Melanie Smith has created a tag using Els van de Burgt Studio’s Tags & More 1 – Lace die set. To decorate her tag Melanie has used the Small Butterfly die set also from Els van de Burgt Studio and the ModaScrap Leafy Branch 4.

Katelyn Grosart shares a fun way to display those photos of our loved ones. Katelyn has used papers from  ModaScrap’s Butterfly Dream; Thinking About .. Polynesia Patterned Paper Packs and White Soft Finish Cardstock to create her photo art piece. For the layers Katelyn has used the Stitched Squares, Stitched Rectangles and Stitched Circles from Els van de Burgt Studio as well as the ModaScrap Stitched Fishtail Banners. To decorate her piece Katelyn has added the ModaScrap Dragonfly and the A Way with Words – Beautiful sentiment.

Sanna Lippert created a Scrapbook layout for our challenge this time round. I create journals, personal journals, art , junk, keepsake, family memories and special event. I love using dies and stamps to personalize my work. It isn’t my hand drawn art, but my combinations, colors and vision combined to make special pieces.

Lately I have been challenged to come up with ideas for retirement cards for a number of people to sign. Thinking outside the box was a very intense thoughtful experience.
First: was a picket fence box which I stained and decorated. Then I made tags which were used for well wishes to be written on and signed by all well wishes. As they were returned to me, I then decorated said tags and put in the box.
Second: was a binder and pages, I decorated the binder and sized, cut, and decorated all the pages where the wishes by individuals were placed.

I like mixed media canvas and boxes. Just got some old hinged-lid boxes at a yard sale and plan to use paper, chipboard, etc. to give them new life. I love taking things that others think have no use and making them not only usable, but beautiful again.

I love making boxes, gift and special. I have designed a special Night Before Christmas box that is abut 7″ tall and 4″ square that opens up to reveal a living room with a 3-D Christmas tree, presents, wreaths, fireplace, and various decorations. When closed it looks like a very prettily wrapped present. I use Elizabeth Crafts dies to make many of the decorations, including the 3-D tree (it also has a Swarofsky crystal angel on top).

  • Reply Carol Carr June 7, 2017 at 7:07 am

I love all the ideas that have been shared but especially like the tote bag. I love to make paper flowers and have them on hand not only for cards but to use in various other ways to make someone’s day especially happy!

  • Reply Jen Radloff June 7, 2017 at 6:50 am

I like making little baskets/boxes that I can put some candies (especially chocolate) in as a table decoration/gift. I belong to several organizations, this is a relatively inexpensive but really pretty way to give something nice without spending a ton of money on a gift they will never use.

I stopped at my Staples store and they printed off 20 sheets of lazer print paper for me to use with the Deco Foil. Wish I could find design paper that is done with the lazer print, to use on my cards.

Simple die cut shapes can be used as appliques for clothing, home dec projects, etc. Just apply iron-on adhesive to the back of the fabric, die cut it, and iron on to the project.

  • Reply Andrea Shearer June 7, 2017 at 2:38 am

I make boxes mainly my tools as I think everything should have a home. Also books are great to make when I have time.

I enjoy anything crafty….I love to help create decorations for friends wedding/anniversary receptions. Because of card making, creating a sign for entryway of a party is a snap. I enjoy arranging flowers, gardening, making garden basket gifts for friends. Still enjoy doing embroidery and knitting. Reading keeps me out of trouble some days and I do love to do all sorts of puzzles to keep my older mind active.

This summer is already chock full of birthday parties for friends and family so I already know what will be in store for me for the next couple of months. One of my BFF s Grand-daughter is getting married and they have just recently asked for my help at the reception so when we have that meeting I will have a whole lot of creativity flowing. I just love it.

Fun projects! I love turning trash into treasures. The biggest from trash to treasure job that I’ve done lately was making tiles from cereal boxes cut with dies and then painting them like copper Verde. The tiles made a very lovely backsplash, but took forever to finish. A lot of cereal had to be eaten, thank goodness for our congregation who provided most the boxes.

I’m in charge of decorating the sanctuary of our church so, I have to think outside the box .Since my passion is paper, ink, glue and glitter.
We have 5 large crosses on the walls and I like to make stuff to hang on them. Like 16 inch round rosettes with beads, flowers, stamped encouraging words and etc. I simply make hangers on the back and hang with ribbon. A change in season and holidays are always a new adventure.

ATCs! Better than a tag, more challenging becsuse of the scale. A great inspiration to use the smaller stamps and dies that often are overlooked because they are small! Plus you can trade them with people who are so creative and inspiring. They are little in size but are fun to display in a small gallery

My latest project was a 12 x 12 shadowbox frame of butterflies and flowers cut out of cardstock and enhanced with embellishments. I used my Cricut for these two projects but I combined them with stamping and embossing. I view a lot of You Tubes and combine different ideas together to create the final pieces. My favorite non card project is the boxes I make from a 12″ X 12″ piece of designer cardstock. The bottom of the box is made from a matching solid color piece of cardstock cut to 11 and a half inch X 11 and a half inch. Then I decorate the top. I have made around 100 of these. I used them for gifts and for home deco.

I love taking ceramic tiles getting a person’s favorite quote printing it on drawing paper with different fonts sizes. Then using mogpoge, I adhere it to the tile. You can stamp the outer edges once it dries with flourish and add a three demensional flower and pearls. Place it on an easel and you have a beautiful yet simple display of their favorite quote. You can even include their picture for a wedding present, anniversary or retirement message.

I play around with composition notebooks. I turn them into journals using your double sided tapes. I like to add decorating papers inside the book and put expanding pockets inside the front and back covers. I use different patterns of coordinating papers for each surface and use hair bands from the dollar store to keep the book closed. It is a lot of fun and comes out beautiful. Until I discovered the double sided tape it was more messy to cover the books and they did not look as nice as they do now with the tape. Thanks!

I do this with word dies, botanicals, any dies and then I glue them onto my canvas and coat with gesso. Then it’s adding inks, metallic pastes, beads, etc. to finish. All great ideas, I love the tag on the easel. I love playing around with the double sided adhesives making pretty stationery and also boxes for my mini embellishments.

What a great idea to use wooden spools to hold the sentiments!! I am a die hard card maker & scrap booker (no pun intended ) I haven’t really gone beyond that but will maybe eventually do some home décor items.

I love taking boxes and hot gluing them together to make custom storage for all my awesome stuff that I use, and cover with so many different kinds of papers. Did you know that Wallpaper, from sample books do GREAT for these projects ?! The double sided adhesives work hand and hand with them. No one believes you made them, and Want one !
