I’m revisiting one of my favorite projects: Shimmer Sheetz-covered Jumbo Clothespins. (shown: 6” tall) They stand upright and the clip at the top is endlessly useful. This time the clothespins are featuring the word ‘remember’ cut with one of Suzanne Cannon’s wonderful A Way With Words dies.
What will you want to remember? How will you decorate and enjoy a decorated jumbo clothespin?
Clothespins make great place cards at a party, a favor that can go home with each guest. (With the word ‘remember’ these are ideal for a retirement or farewell party!) They’re terrific teacher gifts, and serve well all around the house.
Near the door, the clothespin can hold tickets to a play or a to-do list that can’t be left behind. Or it can welcome a guest with a special greeting card.
On a desk or mantel, it can be used to display a memorable photo like the one of my dad and me. Or put it on the kitchen table where it can hold a secret message for that special someone – two mini playing cards: The 2 of hearts, symbolic of the relationship, and a second card with a love note hidden from view!
Some of my previous clothespins have been purchased pre-painted. I’ve painted others with acrylics. This time, I used alcohol inks instead of paint, staining the wood. I decided not to stain the inside of the legs, but next time I’ve got paints handy I’ll return to the project and paint the inside for a more polished look.
YOUR TURN
This project is as easy as one-two-three:
- Measure the flat surfaces of the jumbo clothespin and cut pieces of Shimmer Sheetz to fit.
- Emboss and lightly sand the pieces and adhere them with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape. Optional: Distress with alcohol inks before or after sanding.
- Back a flat piece of Shimmer Sheetz with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape, distress it with alcohol inks and die cut the word ‘remember’. Adhere to the clothespin. Remember – a metal adaptor plate or Big Shot machine with Precision Base Plate is REQUIRED for die cutting Shimmer Sheetz. Review Els van de Burgt’s YouTube tutorial if you are new to this technique.
Options:
*Some jumbo clothespins come pre-painted. If you’re starting with unpainted wood, leave it that way OR paint or stain the clothespin in a color or mix of colors that coordinate with the Shimmer Sheetz prior to starting the project.
*Line the inside of the legs of the clothespin with two more pieces of Shimmer Sheetz or an interesting patterned paper.
*Instead of ‘remember,’ choose any other die(s) that fit the leg(s) of the clothespin! The word(s) can extend a bit beyond the clothespin as shown.

Great idea, and as Jhone said, lots of applications.
Very pretty! This one has lots of applications – like put a magnet on the back for notes on the fridge!
What a fun project! Love this!
