Bless You Hanky Holder

April 22, 2017

It’s Suzanne here today with a completely unexpected gift idea! Do you know someone suffering from spring allergies? I do!  Here is a little surprise for that sniffling special someone.  Scour the secondhand stores for vintage cotton or linen handkerchiefs and tuck one inside the sweet envelope you’re going to make. “But Suzanne,” you’re thinking, “You don’t have a die that says ‘Bless’!” True. But I do have a die that says ‘Blessings’ and with a couple of cuts you’ve got just what you need. Here’s how…

Instructions:

  1. Die cut the Rose Pocket, Blessings and You from pink cardstock. Die cut the third smallest Fitted Rectangle from light green cardstock and the fourth smallest Dotted Scallop Rectangle from dark green cardstock.
  2. Cut a panel measuring 4-3/8” x 6” from pink cardstock. Tuck it inside the Rose Pocket and use Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape to adhere it as a backing for the pocket (keeping the light green flaps on the outside to make it easier to tuck in the hanky). Keeping the flaps on the outside also keeps the flaps from showing when the pocket is empty.
  3. Use a craft knife or fine point scissors to separate the first five letters – ‘Bless’ – from the last four – ‘ings’ – as shown. Cut away any bumps so the letters have smooth curves.
  4. Adhere Bless and You to the pale green panel and then to the dark green panel. Attach this panel to the pocket front using tiny dots of Beacon Kids Choice Glue on the Rose Pocket die cut to make sure that the Dotted Scallop Rectangle panel doesn’t get stuck to the back part of the pocket.
  5. Fill it up!

Designer Tips:

Just in case your friend may not want to use the lovely vintage handkerchief for her nose, add a little packet of paper tissues to your gift.

Be sure to coordinate the cardstock colours with the hanky.

Bless You!

It’s a great way to give a vintage hanky any time of the year – just swap ‘Bless You’ for ‘Happy Birthday’ or ‘Thinking of You’ or any other sentiment…I love this project, Suzanne!
