Monochromatically Beautiful

March 25, 2017

Hello!  I’m excited to show you this dramatic and beautiful card, easy to do by just combining some floral stamps and a bold die.  By making it monochromatic, the card is easy to replicate using any of your favorite colors.  It’s also a fun and relaxing card to make as multiples since there is coloring involved.  My favorite color palette changes daily and as you can see, I felt like reds with a splash of black for my choice the day this one took shape.  Read on for more information on how I made this beauty.

  1.  Make a card base by scoring and folding n half a sheet of 4 1/4″ x 11″ black cardstock.
  2. Trim white cardstock 4 1/8″ by 5 3/8″.
  3.  Mask a third of the white cardstock to stamp the flowers from Flower Power in water-based black ink (such as Memento tuxedo black).  Because I had multiple flowers overlapping each other, I masked each flower before adding the next.
  4. Color flowers using alcohol based inks.  Here I used Copic Markers R35, R39, R59, N0, and the colorless blender.
  5. Remove mask and add a 1/4″ strip of black cardstock to hide the straight edge side of the flowers.
  6. Die cut A Way With Words ‘Beautiful’ out of white cardstock and color using the same colors as the flowers.  I achieved an ombre look by making the top half of the word darker and making sure that the colors blend together for a soft, rather than striped, effect.
  7. Adhere ‘Beautiful’ onto the white layer oriented vertically so that the word reads upward as shown.

Thank you so much for joining me today!  What colors would you have made the card?
