Gracias – Pocket Card

Gracias – Pocket Card
by Judi Kauffman

It wasn’t an easy choice: Should my first pocket card using a die from the new ModaScrap collection be the Leaf Pocket, the Lace Pocket, or the Rose Pocket??? The Leaf Pocket won.

I knew I wanted to create a flat thank you note to tuck into the pocket, and that gave me another decision to make: Should I say it in French, German, Spanish, or English? After a couple of coin tosses ‘Gracias’ won.

For me, there was only one decision that was made the minute I saw all three pocket dies: I knew I would use Shimmer Sheetz to line the pockets! It adds a nice touch of sparkle as well as concealing what is inside. And it hides the tabs that hold the pocket in place, too. Otherwise they’d be visible when the insert card is removed. What can I say? I’m the granddaughter of a tailor and we always lined pockets…

This won’t be my only Shimmer Sheetz-lined pocket card, that’s for sure.

They’re fast and fun to make and there are so many options: Switch to the Rose or Lace Pocket, change the color combination, choose a different sentiment. Embellish the insert card with die cut flowers (flat or dimensional!), other leaves, feathers, or whatever you prefer. Instead of a flat insert card, tuck in a tag or a folded card, or even a handwritten letter on pretty paper.

Customize, customize; play and experiment. This card will work for so many occasions!

1. Die cut the Leaf Pocket from tone-on-tone patterned cardstock-weight paper (low contrast, not a bold pattern).

2. Cut a piece of Shimmer Sheetz to fit behind the framed area of the pocket front – a tad wider than 4.25”, a tad shorter than 6”. Hand cut the area at the top center. Secure the Shimmer Sheetz with narrow Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape. (shown: Yellow Iridescent)

3. Fold back the side and bottom tabs, add Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape to the tabs, and secure the pocket to a sturdy cardstock rectangle for a flat card OR to the front of a side-fold card base made from patterned paper that coordinates with the pocket, as shown. (card size: 5.5” x 7” when folded, cut from 12” x 12” cardstock-weight scrapbook paper)

4. Create a 4.25” x 5.5” insert card using White Soft Finish Cardstock with two borders: first one cut from the same patterned paper as the pocket, second one in the same solid color as the die cut leaves and word(s). Add a sentiment and some leaves, making sure that there is plenty of white space on which to write a note. Tip: Back the solid color cardstock with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Sheet or Tape before die cutting word and leaves. (shown: Olive Twist Soft Finish Cardstock)
