Chevron Halloween Cards
By Judi Kauffman

chevron-1 chevron-2 chevron-3The new Chevron Background die is so much fun to use! It cuts a rectangle that will fill an A2-size card front. It also cuts lots of smaller pieces, some with decorative stitched lines, as well as ten flag pieces with holes at the top for stringing them together as banners.

I decided to cut the Chevron Background from Bright Orange Soft Finish Cardstock and challenged myself to use every single piece for a batch of Halloween cards. Backing the cardstock with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Sheet before cutting made it extra fast and easy.

Though I ended up with three cards; you could make more cards by using fewer pieces on each one.

DESIGN STRATEGIES

Pick your favorite Halloween color palette. Die cut the Chevron Background from one of the colors. Use a lot of contrast, like orange against purple or black, purple against lime green or orange.

Use the main die cut background rectangle for one card, the ten banner pieces for another, the remaining pieces for the third. Decide what you want to spell out on the banners before deciding how to arrange the rows of flags. Use an awl or paper piercing tool to poke holes in the background for sewing down the banners.

Choose some purchased embellishments and patterned papers. Arrange and layer the card fronts as shown or as you prefer.

Mix large elements like the layered chipboard owl with smaller ones (gems, robots). Stick with simple rectangles to counter-balance everything else that’s going on. I opted for lots of pattern, tying everything together with a healthy dose of black and white. The small resin stickers and gems are leftovers from a sheet of tiny robots. The patterned papers, layered chipboard and all other stickers are from BoBunny’s Wonderfully Wicked and Double Dot Chevron collections.

Option: Instead of side-fold cards, make flat cards and send along a die cut card stand/easel for display.
